Smarter,Better, Faster,Cheaper

This article examines and critiques the leadership capacity of department leaders in a high school and attempts to gain a deeper understanding of how department leaders perceive their role as teacher leaders, making a distinction between what an individual department leader does in his or her position and teacher leadership as a form of continuous learning and innovation through collaboration. How do department leaders practice leadership to improve student learning? The author provides an investigation and analysis of the current level of leadership capacity exhibited by department leaders in a high school. A close look at the role and function of department leaders in this high school reveals an absence of the teacher leadership necessary to promote the broad-based leadership capacity that results in improved student achievement.

This article calls for reengineering the problem solving process. The goal is one of finding better solutions faster. This article also sets forth a “reengineered” view of the problem solving process, a “cover-the-bases” approach to solving problems. Included is a logic tree or algorithm that helps determine which bases to emphasize when, and a set of questions for use in covering each of the bases.     

发展中国家实现终身学习的障碍与策略

众所周知,教育在社会的可持续发展方面起着关键的作用,它有助于减少贫困,增加收入,发展民主,预防疾病,促进健康和保护环境。教育、消除贫困以及人类发展三者的主要关系可以概括为(CIDA,2001):教育能够发展人力资本和生产力,保持家庭健康和营养,促进个人的发展和社会的发展,所有这些特点都有助于减少贫困;发展人力资本和生产力与社会的发展又有利于整个社会宏观经济的增长和发展。当今,教育、学习、知识获得以及技能的作用变得比以往任何时代都更为重要。无论从宏观还是微观的层次来看,我们应付日益变革的能力将成为成功的关键因素(Khan,1997)。那么,使得学习成为决定我们未来的决定性因素是哪些呢?本文拟就发展中国家的教育来探讨这一主题,作者的基本理论前提是:第一、学习是个人与社会生存的关键;第二、传统的教育体系已无法满足日益强烈的学习需求;第三、必须为大多数人的终身学习提供灵活多样的工具和技术;第四、充分应用现代信息技术帮助人们克服学习

越早学习外语越好

据美国应用语言研究中心最近一份研究报告的数据表明，全美2千7百万的小学中有4百万在学习外语。此中心的研究Nancy Rhofes和Lucinda Branaman研究发现，十年前每5所小学只有1所小学在课程中添加外语，而现在每3年小学中就有1所小学这样做。变化很大。而与之相反的是，在此期间，中学教外语的比例很稳定，10年前为87％，而现在为86％，美国小学兴起了一般“学习外国语热”。美国的小学为什么如此重视外国的教学呢？原因是多方面的。     

Getting to Evo-Devo: Concepts and Challenges for Students Learning Evolutionary Developmental Biology

To examine how well biology majors have achieved the necessary foundation in evolution, numerous studies have examined how students learn natural selection. However, no studies to date have examined how students learn developmental aspects of evolution (evo-devo). Although evo-devo plays an increasing role in undergraduate biology curricula, we find that instruction often addresses development cursorily, with most of the treatment embedded within instruction on evolution. Based on results of surveys and interviews with students, we suggest that teaching core concepts (CCs) within a framework that integrates supporting concepts (SCs) from both evolutionary and developmental biology can improve evo-devo instruction. We articulate CCs, SCs, and foundational concepts (FCs) that provide an integrative framework to help students master evo-devo concepts and to help educators address specific conceptual difficulties their students have with evo-devo. We then identify the difficulties that undergraduates have with these concepts. Most of these difficulties are of two types: those that are ubiquitous among students in all areas of biology and those that stem from an inadequate understanding of FCs from developmental, cell, and molecular biology.     

Coteaching and Disturbances: Building a Better System for Learning to Teach Science

Science education research has examined the benefits of coteaching for learning to teach in elementary and secondary school contexts where coteachers bring variable levels of experience to the work of coteaching. Coteaching as a pedagogical strategy is being implemented at the university level but with limited research. Drawing from the field of activity theory and our emic experience as coteachers, we examine the enactment of coteaching in university science education courses. One of the tools central to our examination of coteaching included the analysis of disturbances in the work and object of preparing science teachers. This analysis highlighted the role, during discursive interactions, of problem posing and problem solving for addressing observed disturbances. The presence of an extra instructor provided increased opportunities in the system for recognizing and valuing disturbances as indicators of underlying contradictions or tensions in elements of the activity system of the learning and teaching of science teachers. Our analysis suggests that coteaching offers expanded opportunities for the evolution of the activity system of preparing science teachers.

本文基于中国和联合国儿童基金会远程协作学习项目的实践,阐述了项目学习凭借城乡学校间网络携手,通过以问题为导向的假设-求证的探究学习,从跨领域学习到多学科融合改善课程的尝试.文章着重论述了项目学习对于创设以学习者为中心的课程、探索信息技术与新课程的多样化整合,以及缩小东西部教育的数字鸿沟知识鸿沟的实践价值和理论意义.     

为了更好地学习：增进教育测评有效性的基本原则

对于学习的测评、为了学习的测评、作为学习的测评是教育测评的3种范式,它们之于课程与教学目标的达成相辅相成、互为补充,共同组成以学习为本的测评。增进教育测评有效性的基本原则主要有:寓测评于教与学,探索多维度的测评方法,选择易于促进学习的测评方法,不同测评项目的评价标准协同一致,让学生知晓评价标准,学习过程中持续测评学生,允许学生参与测评过程,分析与报告学生的学习结果,提供反馈以促进学生的学习。为促进学生更好地学习,需要根据课程与教学目标选择适当的测评范式、手段、工具和策略。     

善用评核数据提升学与教——以“全港性系统评估”为例

在教与学的过程中,评核担当着重要的角色,评核的数据是诊断教学,反映学生的学习能力、表现和成效的参考依据。因此,教师如何善用评核所得的数据提升教与学成为一个关键的问题。本文以香港“全港性系统评估”为例,具体分析学校该如何有效地使用评核数据来提升学与教。     

网络学习中的信息迷航问题初探

网络教育的兴起正在使更多的教师和学生将教学活动转移到网络上,这种新的教学方式在带给我们快捷和便利的同时也给我们带来了一些新的问题。正视这些问题并深入分析直至解决它们将使网络教育发挥更大的作用。     

混合式研修:内涵、现状与改进策略

在"互联网+"理念与教师培训改革的共同推动下,混合式研修成为当下教师培训的新常态。本文首先从混合式研修展开起点、构建理路以及发展共识三个方面分析了混合式研修的基本取向,并以此为基础阐释了混合式研修的内涵,即需要在形式、主体、活动以及关系等模式要素中实现多维度的互动与融合。针对当前实践普遍存在着构成要素单一、研修设计封闭、团队构建不力、实践融合表浅等问题,本文从加强研修项目的系统化设计、提升研修项目的开放性程度、注重构建具有整合意义的环境和增进相关主体之间的协作性等方面对混合式研修的设计与实施提出了改进建议。
