This essay suggests that cultural studies, media studies and communications need to focus on the changes and challenges associated with this particular historical conjuncture, and re-assess the kinds of analysis that can most fruitfully contribute to this critical project. This requires rethinking some conventional assumptions about everyday life, media texts and communications technologies so that a more nuanced understanding of the imbrication between culture, labour and economy in the present moment may be developed.  相似文献

One of the most common formats of audience participation in journalism consists of online reader comments in response to articles, weblogs, or online television and radio broadcasts. While initially the audience only commented on media platforms themselves, Facebook made it possible to outsource commenting to a third-party platform. The options users have, the rules commenters are obliged to follow, and the moderation regime they confront, could influence the quantity and quality of comments. In this study, we explore how news media deal with audience comments on Facebook and their own news site, and how this influences the quality and quantity of comments. We compared comments on news platforms and Facebook of 62 Dutch national and regional newspapers, public and commercial broadcasters, newsweeklies, national news programmes, and online news sites. Subsequently, we analysed the content of the comments with the qualitative text analysis tool MAXQDA. The results indicate that news media prefer outsourcing comments to Facebook although commenting on their own platforms is still possible. By discouraging anonymous responses, the quality of comments improved but above all the quantity of comments decreased after outsourcing comments to Facebook.  相似文献

[目的/意义] 基于国外的相关案例,探讨LAM资源与社交网络融合的优势和模式,为数字文化资源的服务提供新理念和新方法。[方法/过程] 运用案例分析方法和对比分析方法,剖析基于Tumblr、Flickr以及Wikipedia等第三方平台的LAM资源与社交媒体融合运作模式及优势特色,为LAM机构利用社交网络开展相关实践提供有益参考。[结果/结论] LAM资源与社交网络的融合能有效提高数字文化资源在网络空间的曝光度、可查找性和可获取性。我国LAM机构应在意识层面、政策层面、机构层面、媒介选择层面以及内容层面吸取国外案例的先进经验,推动社交媒体更加有效的被应用。  相似文献

公众参与是新时期档案工作的典型特征,为了探究我国档案网站与社交媒体平台在公众参与领域的融合情况,笔者采用定量分析的研究方法对江苏省内可有效访问的36个县市区级档案网站进行调研,发现目前档案网站与社交媒体平台基于公众参与领域的融合并不充分,依旧存在公众参与定位不清晰,融合目的不明确、公众参与内容交叉重复,参与活动层次不高,以及两者运行独立,互动率低等问题。为此,笔者从思想观念、制度保障以及融合的内容和方式等层面着手,对各要素的地位、关系以及实现条件进行系统论述,尝试构建一个“互联网+”背景下以社交媒体平台与档案网站公众参与融合为基础的新型档案公众参与模式,从而提升公众参与的效率及质量。  相似文献

In light of the growing role of social media in conflict management, the current study analyzes the interrelationship of online political participation of Israeli Jews, the frequency of their online contacts with Arabs, and Jews’ perceived social distances from Arabs. The research was conducted through an online survey of a representative sample of 458 Israeli Jews who use the social media at least 3 times a week. Overall, although causation cannot be inferred because of the correlational design of our study, results suggest that frequency of online contacts may positively affect closeness to Arabs in line with contact theory. In keeping with the socialization perspective of political engagement, the findings indicate that the impact of online political participation on social distances from Arabs was mediated by interactions between Jews and Arabs in the social media.  相似文献

The authors observed 730 collegiate students in the library and recorded their study (or non-study) activities. Approximately 60% of behaviors were study related. The most commonly observed behavior was reading print material (18.8%). The second most common behavior was the use of social media (11.4%). These results have implications for understanding how students learn and study in the pervasive digital world.  相似文献

Although a growing number of studies are examining the relationship between Internet use and political participation, varying study characteristics make the overall effect size difficult to estimate. Using a meta-analysis, we estimated the mean effect size and tested whether the effect size was influenced by study characteristics. Data for this meta-analysis were derived from 56 papers reporting 63 independent studies. Results revealed that Internet use had a weak relationship with political participation (rc?=?.22). Moderator analyses demonstrated that type of Internet use, Internet use measure, Internet use for news, type of political participation, sample origin, and survey year significantly moderated the relationship between Internet use and political participation. For instance, Internet use including news (rc?=?.27) had a significantly stronger relationship with political participation than did Internet use excluding news (rc?=?.19). European samples (rc?=?.27) had the largest mean correlation followed by North American samples (rc?=?.23) and Asian samples (rc?=?.18) in decreasing order of strength of relationship. The theoretical and methodological implications of the findings are discussed.  相似文献

In an increasingly digital world where many are predicting the demise of the traditional newspaper, the media are turning to the masses to report and help report through the power of Internet journalism. Taking their cues from other areas such as photography and science, news organizations are employing the increasingly popular concept of “crowdsourcing” where tasks traditionally performed by employees are outsourced to a large network of people, recruited through an open call. This paper examines five different cases of crowdsourced journalism, classified on the basis of type of coverage and audience demographic. The study explores the strategies employed in each case, analyzes the benefits and pitfalls, and offers suggestions and ideas for future ventures. Observations and insights from journalists in different organizations are used to evaluate how crowdsourcing is blurring the lines between journalists as reporters and citizens as consumers.  相似文献

针对数字平台在中国的迅速扩张,本文以阿里巴巴为例,反思西方平台化研究的局限,质询本土语境如何塑造了中国的平台化进程。以小资本主义为本土语境的切入点,本文搭建了一个集纳国家、中小企业、风险资本、平台运作机制的整合性框架,用以分析阿里巴巴的进化史。本文提出,阿里巴巴瞄准并利用了小资本主义传统中国家与中小企业的结构性张力,通过不断调整与国家、中小企业、风险资本、平台机制的关系实现了平台扩张。强调语境化、历史化和多元力量的整合性框架打破了西方平台研究的标准叙事,为平台研究提供了新的思路。  相似文献

This article introduces a theoretical typology of four rival yet converging ideal types of cultural critics in contemporary media culture and in cultural journalism, more specifically, encapsulated by the term the heterogeneous cultural critic and characterized by different kinds of authority and expertise: (1) the intellectual cultural critic, who is closely connected to an aesthetic tradition, bohemia and/or academia, or institutionalized cultural capital; (2) the professional cultural journalist, who is first and foremost embedded in a media professional logic; (3) the media-made arbiter of taste, whose authority is closely linked to practical experience with cultural production and repeated charismatic media performances; and (4) the everyday amateur expert, who offers subjective opinions and represents experience-based cultural taste. The aim is to provide an analytical minimum model for future empirical studies by outlining the contours of the multiple, objective and subjective, professional and non-professional cultural “authorities” of contemporary media culture.  相似文献

In this article, I survey the Onondaga Nation's social media outlets in the light of collective memory theory. The article identifies several core topics of the nation's identity narratives which, all together, are perceived as an expression of Onondaga functional memory. The role of wampum belts as medial cues to that memory is highlighted as well as the role of social media in the struggle against the negative effects of native media invisibility.  相似文献
