When examined cross-culturally, the formal incorporation of sport by American colleges and universities is rather unique. Although higher education in the United States is largely the result of European influences, only in America has sport become an official responsibility of the educational organization. The openness of the “charter” of higher education was the primary factor in the formal incorporation of sport responsibilities within American institutions. AbstractThe purpose of the study was to determine whether interest test results obtained upon entering Ferris State College could differentiate between 30 successful graduating and 30 nonsuccessful students in collegiate technical programs. A “t” test of significance was used to analyze the differences between means on 46 subscales of the Strong Vocational Interest Blank. The successful male collegiate technical students had significantly higher mean scores on the architect, dentist, mathematician, physicist, engineer, aviator, carpenter, and policeman subscales. The nonsuccessful male students had higher mean scores on the forest service, personnel director, social science teacher, social worker, musician, sales manager, real estate sales, and life Insurance sales subscales. The findings suggest that successful and nonsuccessful male collegiate technical students may be differentiated on the basis of an interest measure. 相似文献

Abstract The relative effectiveness of a problem-solving-based computer-assisted instruction (PSCAI) and a lecture-Internet-discussion instruction (LIDI) were compared for Taiwan senior high school students' science achievement and attitudes toward science. A pretest-posttest control group experimental design involving 8 classes was used. Experimental-group students (n = 156) received the PSCAI; comparison-group students (n = 138) received the LIDI. Instruments included the Earth Science Achievement Test (C. Y. Chang, 2000) and the Attitudes Toward Earth Science Inventory (C. Y. Chang & S. L. Mao, 1999). A multivariate analysis of covariance suggested that (a) students taught using the PSCAI scored higher but not significantly higher than did students in the LIDI group and (b) there were statistically significant differences in favor of the PSCAI on student attitudes toward the subject matter. 相似文献
