Effect of Foam Cladding for Blast Mitigation:Numerical Simulation

Two numerical simulations were performed to investigate the protective effect of the foam cladding. One simulation is based on a previous experimental study, which is a ballistic pendulum with and without a foam cladding subjected to close-range blast loading. The other model is a steel beam with and without a foam cladding under blast loading. The overpressure due to the blast event can be calculated by the empirical function ConWep or by an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) coupling model. The first approach is relatively simple and widely used. The second approach can model the propagation of the blast wave in the air and the interaction between the air and the solid. It is found that the pendulum with the foam cladding always swings to a larger rotation angel compared to a bare pendulum. However, the steel beam with an appropriate foam cladding has a smaller deflection compared to the bare beam without a foam cladding. It is concluded that the protective effect of the foam cladding depends on the properties of the foam and the protected structure.

A class of new planar dual-mode filters without coupling gaps is proposed. The proposed structures use a single patch wiuhout coupling gaps. Attenuation poles can be implemented on either side of the passband by changing the locations of two feed lines. By cutting two corners in the patch, two attenuation poles on both sides of passband are implemented. A novel dual-mode elliptic-function bandpass filter structure without coupling gaps is also proposed. These new filters can provide a low insertion loss and reduce uncertainty in fabrication owing to the absence of coupling gaps.

Single-acting double-stator multi-pumps and multi-motors

We investigated a series of novel motors and pumps with a new structure called double-stator. Double-stator can be used as pump or motor just for the working condition on demand. A certain amount of pumps or motors are formed in one shell and these subpumps or submotors can work alone or in company without influence on other pumps or moters. This kind of double-stator pumps （motors） are called multi-pumps （multi-motors）. Through the analysis of multifarious connection modes of single-acting double-stator multi-pumps and multi-motors, the mathematical expressions of output flow rate, rotational speed and torque are acquired. The results indicate that different flow rates can be provided by one fixed displacement double-stator multi-pump system under the condition of an unalterable driven speed. Likewise, under the terms of a fixed input flow and without complex variable mechanisms, the functions of double speeds, multiple speeds and even differential connection can be realized by a double-stator multi-motor system with various output rotational speeds and torques.
