The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of two types of maps (generative vs. completed) and the amount of prior knowledge (high vs. low) on well‐structured and ill‐structured problem‐solving performance. Forty‐four undergraduates who were registered in an introductory instructional technology course participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to two treatments that used generative and completed concept maps. Within those treatment groups, participants were differentiated by prior domain knowledge, high or low. Although the high knowledge‐generative group outperformed the other three groups on well‐structured problem‐solving performance, it did not have an effect on ill‐structured problem‐solving performance.  相似文献

Conclusion As designers contemplate methods for improving their practice over time, the thoughts expressed here, inspired by work in other creative design fields, may help us to choose which path will lead to the greatest benefit. With our visions growing rapidly because of improved tools, improved theory, and the new freedoms they give us, it is unhappy to think that new principles, ideas, and experiences may fail to emerge or be slow to benefit our students because we had no way to capture, examine, and share them and accomplish the assurance of their quality.  相似文献

Based on work undertaken in a joint international project focusing on the process and teaching of writing in English/US classrooms, this article looks at the impact government initiatives on assessment and accountability have on classroom practices and the process of writing. These initiatives are encoded in the Standard Assessment Tasks (SATs) in England and the Proficiency Tests in the US. The first year of the project has gathered and analyzed data from a longitudinal study of writing in the US, focused on the state of Ohio, and a series of contrasting case studies in England.  相似文献

Practice and experience, whether simulated or on the job, are not enough to ensure effective learning. Learners must be able to make sense of those experiences to identify poor decisions and actions, missing knowledge, and weak skills that deserve attention. Using instructors to provide one‐on‐one instruction is effective but also expensive. This article describes ways of using intelligent software to assess student performance and provide feedback automatically in free‐play simulations.
