Abstract Globally, there has been an increased demand for Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery (ILL/DD) services. As the profession has struggled to meet this demand, many new theories, models, procedures, and technologies have been implemented in libraries and reported in library literature. This article surveys the varied and voluminous literature that has appeared from the years 1995 through 2000. Literature is broadly defined to include not just published books and journal articles, but also conference events, Web sites, and electronic publications. Topics addressed include: Reference Sources for ILL/DD; National and International Initiatives; Theory, Management, and Practice of ILL/DD; Document Delivery; Resource Sharing; and Copyright and Licensing. 相似文献

通过对我国768所本科高校图书馆馆际互借与文献传递服务的网上调查,分析了高校图书馆馆际互借与文献传递的类型、服务内容、服务方式、服务对象、收费及补贴情况,指出我国高校图书馆馆际互借与文献传递存在区域发展不平衡、服务发展水平参差不齐、服务对象存在局限性、缺乏统一的收费标准、版权意识淡薄等问题,提出了建立专门的协作机构和指导中心、提高对馆际互借与文献传递服务的重视、建立馆际互借与文献传递服务联盟、改进服务方式等对策。 相似文献

Abstract Technological advances in the processing of interlibrary loans have enabled libraries to deliver materials electronically to users. Delivery is especially beneficial for distance education students for whom typical interlibrary loan services are often not a viable option. The author conducted a survey of libraries that serve distance education students to determine which systems and processes, used in traditional interlibrary loan, are transferable to the delivery of materials from the “home” institution to off-campus students. To complement the survey, the results of a case study of experiences at Western Michigan University (WMU) are presented. WMU uses ILLiad and SFX systems to facilitate the request and delivery of interlibrary loan and document delivery requests to students both on and off-campus students. 相似文献

SUMMARY Ariel files are the starting point for electronic delivery of interlibrary loan articles through ILLiad, Virginia Tech's interlibrary loan system. Despite some advantages to electronic delivery of articles to their desktops, a large majority of ILL customers continue to prefer print on paper delivery rather than electronic delivery. This fact has implications for introducing additional electronic services. Correctly choosing what services to impose on library customers, and what services to offer as value-added options, is fundamental to maintaining the credibility of libraries during these times of rapid change. 相似文献

The Alma Jordan Library (AJL) is located on the St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago and is the largest academic library in the University of the West Indies' library system. This article examines interlibrary loan and document delivery (ILL/DD) services, discusses existing ILL/DD activities, and analyzes usage statistics at this Caribbean educational institution. It reviews the current literature that exists about ILL/DD in the Caribbean and other academic institutions outside the region. Abstract The purpose of this article is to outline the “best common practices” at Regent University Library, and share survey data illustrating their effectiveness. Also discussed is how transitioning from an entirely graduate university to a university serving both graduates and undergraduates has influenced library services. The new constituency will increase interlibrary loan transactions and test the library's practices. Providing quality interlibrary loan service to a growing academic population requires innovative ideas and practices while keeping the workflow streamlined. New programs implemented over the past several years include books on demand and providing more electronic books and journals. A growing distance education student population has led to paying for library cards for academic libraries located near students' homes and permitting them to return materials to satellite campuses. 相似文献

SUMMARY Describing her experience of establishing an Electronic Document Delivery Service at the library of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), the author discusses the various issues, which significantly effect the net cost, delivery time and management process of providing such a service by a library in Pakistan. While presenting multiple options leading to an effective solution, the advantages and disadvantages of each option have been highlighted, and their implications, with particular reference to Pakistani libraries, have been discussed.
