该文通过B·贝特尔海姆的童话心理学理论对<哈利·波特>意义进行分析.本文认为,<哈利·波特>作为童话小说,符合接受美学;是一种幻想艺术;同时,其母题体现了人类的共同关注,因此受到亿万小读者的喜爱.     

Harry Potter and the Border Crossing Analogy: An Exploration of the Instructional Use of Analogy in a TESOL Methods Course

ABSTRACT

The following exploratory study examines the effects of a Harry Potter–inspired “border crossing” analogy (HPBCA) on preservice teachers' (n = 25) Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) content knowledge and disposition toward English language learners (ELLs). The analogy capitalizes on the prior and shared background knowledge many preservice teachers have of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels, the related films, and discourses that surround the Harry Potter phenomenon. Study results suggest mild agreement among participants of the perceived positive impact of the HPBCA on their TESOL content knowledge, although a slightly less than neutral response toward the perceived impact on their disposition toward ELLs. The results hold implications for the pedagogical use of analogy in teacher education beyond mathematics and science, as well as the role of prior/shared knowledge in teaching and learning.     

Literature analysis on Harry Potter series under the perspective of post-modernism

Harry Potter series books are not only the children’s books that show clear good and evil forces and heroism,but also carrying strong postmodern features.This paper is to analyze the feature of post-modernism in Harry Potter series in terms of magical realism,postmodern feminism and pluralism and so on for the purpose of offering a different perspective of studying the books.     

Harry Potter and “the landscape of consciousness”: repeat home viewers’ understandings about character

Many children view favourite feature films repeatedly at home and develop understandings of them. This article discusses findings from a study which focused on the understandings that 9‐ and 10‐year‐old children showed about character in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. These findings are reported in terms of a framework appropriate for responses to character in literature or in film. The children's home‐based engagement with characters provides evidence for teachers who are planning to extend understandings about character in their classrooms. The article shows that children's interpretative and structural engagement can build significant understandings and informed appreciation which are similar to those that teachers aim for.     

Extreme Literacies and Contemporary Readers

Literate behaviours are changing with new technological and commercial reworkings of popular fictions. Today's young people are acquiring new skills and strategies to deal with the enormous onslaught of secondary texts associated with many major fictions. This article discusses such developments in the context of three stories: Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and The Simpsons. It investigates the potential for new approaches to literacy as displayed by particular young readers.

In recent years,the study of Harry Potter series has enjoyed great popularity.One of the charms of the books is that there are a lot of vivid and lively animals in them,both real ones and fictional ones.Among these animals,snakes are the most important ones.The paper attempts to discover the deep meaning of snake images in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by connecting them with world culture.The dominant snake images not only enrich the plot,but also help readers to have a better understanding of the story's themes and give them new insights and inspirations.     

Unity of Opposite between Harry Potter and Voldemort

Series Harry Potter belongs to novel of magic realism.Although series Harry Potter is divided into children’s literary works,it attracts people in all age groups.As hero of Harry Potter,Harry,a boy who mature gradually,has unusual experience of resisting Dark Lord Voldemort.Obviously,Harry and Voldemort,who stand for justice and evil separately,are important roles in novel.J.K Rowling designs many connect and coincidence between Harry and Voldemort to lead the development of plot.In fact,Harry and Voldemort are in a unity of opposite.Therefore,the work presented in this paper will focus on unity of opposite between Harry Potter and Voldemort.     

Havighurst's Developmental Tasks,Young Adolescents,and Diversity

The Harry Potter series furnishes many instances of both good and bad teaching. From them, we can learn more about three principles outlined in How People Learn (National Research Council 2000a). (1) Teachers should question students about their prior knowledge, as Professor Lupin does before his lessons; (2) we should encourage students to develop theoretical contexts in which to organize facts, perhaps through Socratic dialogue such as Professor Dumbledore uses with Harry; and (3) we should promote metacognition, as Harry, Ron and Hermione use when they discuss their successes and failures.     

Using Harry Potter to teach literacy: different approaches

The ubiquity of the Harry Potter phenomenon offers an opportunity to examine the different ways educators use popular books to teach reading. This study analyses a number of journal articles that address the Harry Potter novels as tools for the classroom. These articles show a great diversity of approaches. Government testing of discrete, assessable skills can dominate contemporary discussions of literacy, and the Harry Potter books are sometimes used to address these targets. Other educators use Harry Potter to teach children about multimedia technologies. Most often, educators who embrace the Harry Potter novels affirm the value of reading for pleasure. This view often also promotes reading as a route to the critical literacy goal of social inclusion and the psychological development of the child. Taken together, these uses of Harry Potter present a confused picture, with no clear agreement on what good reading is or how it should be taught.

自20世纪60年代以来,翻译研究走出语言学模式,开始考察影响翻译的众多语言外因素,诸如权力关系、意识形态、诗学、赞助人等。单纯的语言内翻译研究不足以解释《哈利·波特》系列小说在中国出版业创造的奇迹。《哈利·波特》在中国的热销主要归功于赞助人——中文版赞助者中国人民出版社、发行商和媒体的巨大努力。文章拟以勒菲弗尔的有关赞助人理论和韦努蒂有关出版业的理论分析《哈利.波特》在中国的热销现象,考察这一译本生产与流通的政治化、体制化层面因素。     

Transformative Readings: Harry Potter Fan Fiction,Trans/Queer Reader Response,and J. K. Rowling

The politics of children’s literature and the actors surrounding it have never been more visible than they are now, in the digital age. As one of the first children’s series to gain widespread popularity concurrently with the spread of the internet, the Harry Potter septet arrived on the global stage at the perfect moment to develop an avid, connected fandom. But the fandom has laid bare the many conflicting ideologies of the fans themselves and of the actors surrounding the texts. This article examines the contentious issue of gender nonnormativity and its relation to the Harry Potter texts, the queer/trans reading practices and political resistance common to the fandom, and the ongoing disagreements over gender, made visible on social media, between Rowling and the fans of her series. The article discusses the Harry Potter novels’ varied and conflicting ideologies; queer/trans readings of the Potter septet, including both invitations and resistances to queer/trans reading by Rowling herself; how gender is queered and queried in and through fan fiction; and finally, the recent hostilities between Rowling and her fans. It concludes by discussing the worsening relationship between Rowling and her fans and highlighting how fans are using their collective power to undermine Rowling’s gender politics through fan fiction. By doing so, the article traces the complex politics of the reception of books for young people in the digital age, demonstrating that authors’ powerful voices continue to shape readers’ responses to texts long after their publication but showing, too, that readers often resist authors’ attempts to influence not only their textual interpretations but their politics.

Translation of Spells in the Harry Potter Series

It is focused on the translation of neologism with a case study of the translation of spells in the Harry Potter series.The formation of spells are first analyzed.After a close analysis of the examples,the major methods of translating spells from English to Chinese is summarized as follows:transliteration,transliteration plus meaning,and form plus meaning,of which the last one is mostly used.In the end,two prominent factors that influence the translators’choice of translating spells are discussed,one of which is culture,and the other audience.     

Domestication and Foreignization of the Translation in Harry Potter

In this essay,I am going to do some research about the effect of the Domestication and Foreignization of the magic words' translation in Harry Potter.Harry Potter is my favorite book both in childhood and now.It is a series of fantasy novel written by British writer J.K.Rowling.It tells about the life of Harry Potter with his friend Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.Domestication and foreignization are two ways in translation,regarding the degree to which translators make a text conform to the target culture.It is the translation made me feel the charm of the book.This book was my favorite book in childhood,and I really appreciate the translator's skills to translate this book.The essay includes spells,magic animals,magic items and names four parts.Each part is divided into Domestication and Foreignization two aspects.The research method of this essay includes comparative analysis,exemplification,induction and literature summarization.
