略谈高校图书馆的闲暇教育

大学生的闲暇生活是多元的,要使图书馆成为大学生闲暇生活的首选目标,图书馆必须发挥自身的优势,以吸引更多的大学生利用图书馆。     

Marketing Videos in Academic Libraries:

In some libraries, the video collection is not accessible to browsing patrons and is overlooked as an information source. To publicize Stetson University Library's video collection, staff sent annotated subject bibliographies of video titles to faculty. To generate the bibliographies, staff created a database and sorted the records into bibliographies for each department. Faculty received subject bibliographies relevant to the classes taught each semester. During the first month of the project's implementation, video circulation increased significantly over the pervious year's level and faculty reaction was positive.

Collaborate or Die! Collection Development in Today's Academic Library

SUMMARY

The practice of collection development faces many challenges in the present and likely future library environment. The following text presents concepts for collaboration as viable solutions to these challenges for collection development in academic libraries. In particular, a model of collaboration involving department faculty representatives and library liaisons is discussed. Consulting professional literature on this topic has offered insight into the establishment of librarian-faculty relationships, the process of collaboration, benefits of collaboration, as well as problems that may result from such cooperative relationships. Examples are illustrated from experiences at three academic libraries: University of Nevada Las Vegas, University of South Florida, and Hillsborough Community College.

Library Instruction Assessment in Academic Libraries

SUMMARY

Determining the best methods of assessment for a library instruction program in a large research university can be a challenging task. Albert R. Mann Library at Cornell University Library has pilot-tested three methods of formative and summative assessment for its library instruction program-attitudinal, outcomes-based, and gap-measure-and determined not only key areas of improvement for the program, but also the benefits and drawbacks of each method of assessment. Attitudinal assessment has guided program improvement in areas of marketing and user satisfaction but does not provide the measurement of learning that outcomes-based assessment covers. The latter can be difficult to achieve in single-session, short-term instruction, while gap-measure assessment can provide a more nuanced view of both patron and instructor attitudes toward learning outcomes, if not actual data on achievement of the objectives themselves. The authors have determined that a combination of these three different types of assessment can address the shortcomings of a single method alone and provide a better measure of the program as a whole.

The article summarizes the findings of the survey with recommendations for libraries and library and information science programs.     

基于h指数的211高校图书馆科研能力测度与分析

以中国期刊全文数据库和web of science平台作为数据源,利用2001-2008年间112家211高校图书馆所发表的论文及其被引数据,从h指数的角度分析211高校图书馆的科研能力。调查结果显示:211高校图书馆的国际学术影响力普遍较低;国内平均h指数较低,59.82%的图书馆未达到平均水平。针对211高校图书馆的科研能力现状提出了建议。     

Creating Sustainable Futures for Academic Libraries

ABSTRACT

Sustainability is the capacity to endure. For academic libraries, sustainability may well require a radical recalibration of their historic value proposition. The “Great Recession” has accelerated profound changes in higher education funding and in the perception of higher education as a public good. Can libraries use scarcity to fuel the imagination? Can the singular strengths of libraries boost the ability of higher education to thrive, not merely survive? What can be learned from strategies employed in the Great Depression and other periods of severe constraint? Ultimately, how might libraries increase revenue, engender flexibility, foster collaboration, align activities, reduce costs, strengthen infrastructure, and encourage innovation within the framework of a sustainable academic business plan? This article examines these questions by using the University of Washington's 2Y2D (Two Years to Two Decades) initiative and the UW Libraries companion effort, Building Sustainable Futures, as a case study. 2Y2D provides an inclusive framework for near term action (two years) that will realize an aspirational future in the long-term (two decades). Building Sustainable Futures places a library lens over 2Y2D. The Libraries Research Commons exemplifies the synergistic intersection of the two initiatives and may be instructive for other environments and institutions.     

高职图书馆和本科图书馆学术研究的对比研究

基于1999—2011年《中国期刊全文数据库》(CNKI)来源文献的统计数据,对高职院校图书馆和本科院校图书馆为单位的论文分别进行统计,采用关键词分析的方法,从图书馆服务、图书馆管理、图书馆资源建设研究等方面对两类图书馆的学术研究情况对比分析,探寻高职图书馆学术研究的特色之处及存在的不足,以期为高职图书馆今后的学术研究提供一些帮助。     

基于h指数的四川地区高校图书馆科研能力分析与研究

以中国期刊全文数据库作为数据源,利用2001年-2010年间四川92高校图书馆所发表的论文及其被引数据,从h指数的角度分析四川地区高校图书馆的科研能力。调查结果显示：四川地区高校图书馆的整体科研能力偏低,96.7%的图书馆的h指数低于10。文章分析了其原因并提出了建议。

本文集中分析了我国入世后,高校图书馆的优势、劣势,所面对的问题与威胁,提出了几点高校图书馆应对WTO的战略举措,以全球化思维本地化行为,学习借鉴跨国公司战略及商业化思考以适应WTO的新形势。
