Special Education in New Zealand: Disability,Politics and Empowerment

RECENT CHANGES in educational administration in New Zealand have been premised on an economic model of schools as providers and parents as consumers. At the same time, laws relating to education have been changed toward establishing the right of all children, irrespective of ability or disability, to education in state schools. Both moves have the potential to empower parents seeking integration into mainstream classrooms for their children who have disabilities. Recognition of the rights of Maori as the indigenous people of New Zealand is a further context within which educational and disability issues can be interpreted in terms of the social, cultural and political beliefs that underlie our concepts and actions.

Change Through Empowerment Processes: Women's stories from South Asia and Latin America

Using two case studies, one of a woman in South Asia, the other, a Latin American woman now living in the USA, the paper identifies both obstacles and facilitators that have shaped their lives and their paths to empowerment. The authors present a model for understanding the processes of empowerment and change, especially change facilitating gender equity. This model recognises a dialectic process involving people's subjective perspectives and the ideologies, policies, structures and institutions in their public environments. It extends and problematises discussion of empowerment and change that can create more gender equity. Data for the two case studies were gathered through qualitative strategies, informed by critical feminist theory, as part of two broader research projects.     

当前素质教育中亟待解决的几个根本问题

我国多年来的教育实践意义上的素质教育,始终还映射出传统教育特别是应试教育的影子,还没有完全实现理论上以人为本的真正意义上的素质教育.要真正实现传统教育向现代教育的转变还需要一个较长的过程,与素质教育思想紧密相联的一些根本性的问题必须得到相应解决.这里面有教育理念、政府行为、教师队伍、教育体制等方面的问题,也有教育理论研究、教育实践、教育发展等方面的问题.本文就这样的一些根本性问题做简要探讨,以为抛砖引玉.

女子高等教育——文化变迁的寒暑表中国女子高等教育的过去、现在和未来

女子高等教育的变迁与社会的化现代化过程和现代化程序密切相关。首先以西方女学的传入为视点，梳理出中国女子高等教育的控化历程：西方女学传入的肇端与中国近代女子高等教育的孕育、兴起，男女同校教育的传入与中国近代女子高等教育的发展等。通过对大量数据的收集，从比较的视解对中国子女高等教育的现况和问题进行了总体把握和具体分析，并展望了中国女子高等教育的未来，指出了所面临的挑战和机遇。
