Abstract

Studies on health pedagogy in medical students in African universities are lacking. The aim of the current investigation was to assess the following pedagogy influences on second year Zimbabwean medical students’ well-being. A group of 100 students studying Physiology and Anatomy in MBChB. II program at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences were asked to voluntarily complete a structured questionnaire. As Physiology was examinable, students desired to practice MCQ questions. Dissection was regarded as excellent for medical knowledge. The stress of study probably necessitated the drinking of alcohol. Most of the respondents did not actively smoke. Although students knew about calories, they were unaware of the daily requirements. Their diets were mostly balanced. Music helped alleviate stress. Stress levels were high although no overwhelming effects on general health were observed. IT use was rated well although the slow internet was problematic. We encourage more studies on medical students in central and southern Africa.  相似文献

This paper presents the narratives of five creative Irish Adults who contributed to the study by sharing their childhood education experiences. The five participants are all of different ages and occupations. All identify themselves as highly creative people and all worked with me over the course of this study to identify how this creativity developed within their engagement with the Irish childhood education system. All excelled with higher education and they share a high degree of success within their careers. Between them, they express their creativity across five key genres. These are: Science, Engineering, The Arts, Entrepreneurship and Social Entrepreneurship. Well-developed themes were analysed to identify interrelationships which formed a theoretical framework of core concepts that demonstrate what holds great importance in the lives of these participants for the development of their creativity during childhood education in Ireland. A clear theme of this study was that of connectivity. Connections and relationships matter greatly. The creative journey is joyful and clear where children experience a positive connection with their educator. Conversely, the creative journey is stymied by a lack of connection or by a negative connection. These stand in the way of creative growth, like a big boulder on the child's developmental path. This paper showcases, through the stories of these five research participants, how creativity development is affected by the connection between the child and their educator.  相似文献

Migration occurs behind a variety of reasons and has a great effect on the whole world. People may migrate in order to improve their economic situation, or in order to escape civil strife, persecution, and environmental disasters. The impact of migration is complex, bringing both benefits anddisadvantages. This paper briefly talks about the causes of migration, the allocation of benefits, and the ways in which individual countries and the international community deal with this important subject.  相似文献

Toni Morrison is widely recognized as American's preeminent novelist. As the Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize winning novelist, her stature as a post war American novelist can be no doubt compared to that of great novelists like Hemingway and Faulkner.Historically alert,Toni Morrison magnificently explores the life of the black, especiaiiy that of black women. Her Nobel Prize Lecture.in which she again tells a story of a black wom- an.can be regarded as an epitome of Mortison's works. The dialogue between the blind black old woman and the young people is full of wisdom and profoundness.Like many great works,Morrison's Lecture can also be traced back to some ancient archetypes, this thesis attempts to use archetypal theories to probe into the archetypes in Toni Morrison's Nobel Prize Lecture from characters, and theme. These archetypes denote deeper meaning of the author.  相似文献

During interview with English majors, it was found that a majority of students expressed disappointment with their experience of English literature classes. Students' dislike of learning English literature appears to be the major problem of teaching English literature in China. Reader response approach is a good way to solve this problem. In this paper, I explain the rationale behind the reader response approach, such as its origin, definition, features, assumptions, and strategies. Then I illustrate how reader response approach works as a teaching strategy by presenting several teaching models. At last I evaluate its usefuiness for teachers and present the advantages of reader response approach in Chinese context.  相似文献

The strabismus conception of masculinity and power with its manipulation as reflected in the consequences of actions endorsed and demonstrated by leaders, followers, citizens as individuals and groups at different times in the past, and present has been a major source of the seemingly quiescence and underdevelopment in Africa. Masculinity has often been associated with being athletic, breadwinner, objective, sexually aggressive, unemotional, dominating, etc.; while power is frequently construed as a tool of dominance, authority, superiority, influence, and governance. This inapt perception was borne out of Africa's nictitating and ignorance. The consequences of the misconception include abuse of power, intolerance, intimidation, militancy, humiliation, insecurity, inadequate dialogic tools and opportunities, etc. These result in the Climate of Fear as being experienced in the Niger-Delta of Nigeria, Kenya, and other parts of Africa. Thus, this paper examines the concepts of masculinity and power with exemplification from Africa with Wole Soyinka's Climate of Fear. The research methodology employs a combination of critical discourse analysis and Halliday's systemic functional theory of grammar with sociolinguistics approaches for the analysis. The study posits that the root of the problems that abound in Africa is traceable to the lack of precise socio-cultural, political and philosophical ideologies by Africans. The research opines that these fundamental problems of Africa can be resolved through orientation with education for all, which is one of the challenges of the millennium development goals. Thus, the paper examines the contrivance of open distance learning and its role in the education of African citizenry. It concludes on the ground that open distance learning as a recent and welcomed information technological development in Africa, if properly channeled and adequately funded would enhance sustainable development in Africa by its elimination of some of the aforementioned obstacles.  相似文献
