Holistic schedulability analysis for distributed hard real-time systems

This paper extends the current analysis associated with static priority pre-emptive based scheduling to address the wider problem of analysing schedulability of a distributed hard real-time system; in particular it derives analysis for a distributed system where tasks with arbitrary deadlines communicate by message passing and shared data areas. A simple TDMA protocol is assumed, and analysis developed to bound not only the communications delays, but also the delays and overheads incurred when messages are processed by the protocol stack at the destination processor. The paper illustrates how a window-based analysis technique can be used to find the worst-case response times of a distributed task set. An extended example illustrating the application of the analysis is presented.     

The Data Science Opportunity: Crafting a Holistic Strategy

The rise of data-driven research and discovery may be one of the greatest strategic opportunities to confront academic libraries in a generation. The argument advanced in this article is that the data science opportunity is about data curation AND data analysis. Thus the development of a holistic data science strategy ought to include both elements. Up until now, academic libraries have largely responded to the data science opportunity from a curatorial and archiving perspective. However, this is beginning to change. The case for crafting a holistic data science strategy is presented in six parts in this article. In part one, a broad overview of the data science opportunity is presented, followed by a definition of data analysis and data curation in part two. The traditional academic library response (curation) and a reframing of it to include data analysis are then presented in two separate parts. And finally, part five reports findings from a recent survey conducted at the University of Florida (UF) which indicates robust demand for training in analytical tools and technologies. The article concludes with some thoughts on the challenges of offering data analysis services, using the UF experience to highlight key issues.     

A Survey of the Reference Sources for Holistic Medicine

Holistic medicine and therapeutic systems are increasingly popular health care alternatives. Reference librarians, when asked about subjects pertaining to the vast field of holistic health, have found the bibliographic resources to be obscure, confusing, and inconsistent. The first two sections of this article discuss the subject access that is provided by Library of Congress and National Library of Medicine subject headings. In the final section there is an annotated bibliography of the chief reference sources for the field. Reference librarians are encouraged to work through the difficulties of finding answers in this field and to treat such queries as typical consumer health care questions.     

The Case for Cataloguing Education

The decline in cataloguing education has resulted in a decline in the quality of records being contributed to bibliographic databases. A decline in awareness of basic cataloguing principles is resulting in serious faults in current rule revision efforts. The false assumption that automation can replace cataloguing, and relativistic standards for library school accreditation, have contributed to the growing problem.

The Yale Law Library,On Demand: A Holistic Approach to Library Services

The Yale Law Library has developed a suite of On Demand access and collection services. This article describes each service in detail, with the intention of assisting other libraries in developing similar services and generating discussion as to the future of library services in the digital era.

��[Purpose/significance] There are many knowledge units in the network community, among which there are intricate relationships. It is necessary to carry out multiple knowledge relations mining uniformly and succinctly on the premise of retaining all the relations of knowledge units.[Method/process] This paper puts forward the solution of multi-knowledge relations mining in network community. Firstly, 3 typical knowledge units (users, texts and words) in the network community and their multiple relations in the knowledge communication were extracted into a supernetwork. Secondly, the network representation learning algorithm was used to uniformly represent the nodes in the supernetwork as low-dimensional dense vectors. Finally, multiple knowledge relations calculation was carried out based on nodal vector.[Result/conclusion] The effectiveness of the scheme was verified by taking cardiovascular BBS in dingxiang garden as an example. This scheme not only retains all the information of the knowledge unit, but also carries out the mining of the knowledge relation under the unified low-dimensional characteristics, and finally the knowledge relation meets the requirements of the diversity of the knowledge organization scene in the network community.
