THE 'OTHER' AS THE VULNERABLE VOTER: A STUDY OF THE THIRD-PERSON EFFECT IN THE 1988 U.S. PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

The tendency for individuals to perceive a greater impact ofmedia messages on others than on the self, Davison (1983) argues,has led to a number of policy decisions in which éliteshave exercised control of mass media messages in order to ‘protect’vulnerable others. The third-person effect has been well-documentedin experimental research with little attention to its theoreticalunderpinnings, or its antecedents or consequences. This articleargues that the third-person effect can be understood throughattribution theory, especially through the concepts of self-servingbias and effectance motivation. Second, it demonstrates thatthe third-person effect is influenced by certain social structuralfactors, media use patterns, and perceived harm of content.Finally, while perceptions of harm are related to perceptionsof influence, influence does not play a role in predicting supportfor external control of media content, while perceived harmhas a significant impact.

联机一体化词表的原理与实践(一)——概念查找和语义关系显示的实现

分类主题一体化词表是将分类法与主题法有机结合的一种先进的情报检索语言。本文探讨了联机形式的一体化词表在实现查找概念和显示语义关系这一词表本质作用方面的理论与实践, 首次提出了重定位、重入和重构三种用表行为的概念, 对比印刷型词表对联机一体化词表在这方面的改进和优越性进行了讨论, 分析论证了联机一体化词表进一步发展完善的途径和潜力。

For one,though the U.S. economy was recovering, sluggishly, in late1991 and then more robustly in the election year itself, deeppublic pessimism about the economy's status developed nonetheless,leading to a vague but highly insistent call to ‘Do something!’In addition, the independent candidacy of Ross Perot becameespecially injurious to the Bush campaign, because theTexasbillionaire's attacks on the President appeared so disinterested.Perot cut deeply into the political and attitudinal groups thatin recent elections have been giving generally strong supportto Republican nominees. Despite these and other developmentswhich led to Bush's defeat just 20 months after he had appeareddominant politically, however, the underlying political alignmentof policy and social groups changed little in 1992.

新中国第一位会开飞机的将军

马宁是新中国空军第三任司令员,同时也是空军历史上第一个会开飞机的将军。他在抗日战争和解放战争中,身经百战,先后参加了著名的上党、邯郸、定陶、淮海等战役。他善于谋略,勇敢果断,打了许多硬仗和恶仗,在战斗中成长为一名出色的指挥员。他先后五次受伤,其中有两次重伤都险些“光荣”。
