The amount of empirical research on leadership of educational organisations, and especially of schools, which has stressed the importance of being sensitive to context, is not great. This paper seeks to highlight the challenge presented by this situation. First, context is defined. Second, attention is drawn to what can be learned in the area of school leadership from the emphasis in other bodies of scholarship within the broad field of education studies on paying attention to matters of context. Third, an overview is provided of some of the key considerations arising out of the small body of work undertaken in the field by those researchers who have focussed on the broad range of issues that can arise for school leaders in distinctive contexts. Finally, five key and interconnected propositions to guide practice with regard to leadership in diverse contexts that have been generated from an analysis of the latter body of work are presented. In doing so, it is recognised that these are tentative in the absence of a much larger corpus of work. Overall, we hope that, along with providing intellectual sustenance, each of the four areas considered will also stimulate discussion on areas for further research.  相似文献

This study explored the factors that influenced Turkish university students' career choices, job selection criteria, and leadership preferences. Participated in this study were 1,213 senior and junior management students from 17 universities across 6 regions of Turkey. Data collection was accomplished through a self-administered four-part questionnaire. Findings revealed that for the entire sample, having power and authority, peaceful work environment, opportunity for career advancement, and pay were the most motivating factors in job selection, whereas close supervision and guidance, praise from supervisor, feedback on performance, and sense of belonging were the least motivating ones. Charismatic leadership was found to be the most preferred style followed by participative, paternalistic, and bureaucratic styles. Finally, career choices were mostly affected by intrinsic factors (i.e., self aspirations), whereas interpersonal factors (i.e., significant others' expectations) were least influential. Findings were discussed in light of dynamic and changing cultural characteristics of the Turkish society.  相似文献

American higher education is an enterprise of complex heritage, mission, and governance culture—an enterprise expected to serve as both cultural curator and cultural critic. Contemporary issues such as the call for accountability and the pressure of marketplace ideology present colleges and universities with a possible breakpoint change moment in both mission and leadership, as established policy and philosophic principles are challenged and leadership vision and values are similarly called to question. This article probes the particular effect of marketplace ideology on colleges and explores three metaphors of leadership role and value: the Servant/Exemplar Leader, the Steward/Trustee Leader, and the Artist/Designer Leader.This article is adapted from a keynote presentation given to the Association for Student Judicial Affairs 2005 Annual Meeting in Clearwater Beach, Florida.E. Who are the people who become positive educational leaders? This essay presents WICS as a model of positive educational leadership. WICS stands for wisdom, intelligence, creativity, synthesized. Each of these elements is asserted to constitute one of the elements of educational leadership. Regrettably, our society is organized around a closed system of selection and talent development that emphasizes intelligence in a narrowly defined way that sometimes ignores its synthesis with creativity and wisdom.  相似文献

This paper presents a systematic literature review of School-University Partnerships (SUPs) that aim to promote changes in teaching and learning practices. Our analysis focuses on the evaluation of such SUPs, throughout their development process (from Exploration to Implementation and Sustainability). Our results highlight the nonlinearity of such development processes. The evaluation of the SUPs mainly relied on qualitative approaches and occurred primarily during the Implementation phase. Furthermore, the evaluation instruments used have seldom been validated or reused within the research community. Future research can focus on the development of reliable evaluation instruments, useable throughout the lifecycle of SUPs, to guide their decision-making.  相似文献

上世纪中叶以来,推进教育绩效评价成为美国基础教育评价改革的主要趋势。本文以马里兰州为案例,回顾了美国公立教育系统绩效管理形成的社会背景和法律框架;分析了马里兰州实施绩效管理的做法、经验和不足。在此基础上,文章提出中国可借鉴美国经验推进教育绩效管理:突出立法为先,改善宏观政策和立法工作;突出学生为本,推进教育行政部门职能转变;突出责任追究,推行组织机构的问责文化。  相似文献

文章通过对某高校计算机专业教师和本科毕业生的实证研究发现:继续深造和直接就业的毕业生在课程的认识上明显不同,教师认为对毕业生重要的课程与继续深造的毕业生在认识上是正相关的,直接就业的毕业生则与教师在认识上存在较大差异。要使毕业生具有可持续发展能力,专业的课程建设应该做到既立足当前,更面向未来。  相似文献

博士生群体构成的日益多样化呼唤博士生培养模式的变革。当前博士生课程存在学生参与度低等问题,其合理性正面临挑战。对我国三所“双一流”高校教育学专业博士生的深度访谈发现,课程制度设计的模糊性与有限性导致学生选课决策更多表现为既定约束下的次优博弈。此种选课机制与课程教学质量的不确定性相结合,最终引致学生课堂参与行为的分异。博士生通过旁听、权变等非制度化实践,一定程度上彰显了学习者在教育场域中的能动性。未来,有必要增加博士生课程制度的弹性,重申有效互动的价值。  相似文献
