New Methods in Design Education： The Systemic Methodology and the Use of Sketch in the Conceptual Design Stage

This study describes the application of a new product concurrent design methodologies in the context in the education of industrial design. The use of the sketch has been utilized many times as a tool of creative expression especially in the conceptual design stage, in an intuitive way and a little out of the context of the reality needs that the design should be attended. This methodology systematizes and guides the process of sketching by means of a conceptual model and a geometric model toward a feasible solution, complementing the role of the sketch in the phase of a product conceptual design. The model describes its operating principles, as well as the phases of implementation in the context of teaching the industrial design illustrated with projects carried out in the workshop of conceptual design of the University Technical College of Valencia and University of the Bio-Bio, Chile. Finally, we discuss the implementation of the systemic models, their relation with the optimisation of the sketching process in the conceptual design stage, and their implications in the educational context.     

An Analysis of the Main Reason and Solutions for the Failure of TEFL in Thailand

TEFL in Thailand is still not successful compared with other countries in Asia.On the basis of literature and study of the relevant official documents,the present paper makes an analysis on the reasons for the failure of TEFL in Thailand.It is revealed that the main reason for the failure of TEFL in Thailand is lack of qualified teachers.Some solutions to the failure of TEFL are also proposed in the paper.     

Seeking the Self-consciousness of Black Woman from the Point of View of“Womanism”in Everyday Use

Alice Walker is one of the prominent American writers in American women’ s literature and black literature in 1950s-1960s.The short story Everyday Use was published early in her writing career.She displays the differences in the behav iors and minds of the mother and her two daughters during the process of seeking the self-consciousness of black woman from the point of view of " womanism".This paper attempts to explore the awakening of their heritage and self-consciousness in or der to deepen the understanding and thoughts on the theme of the text.     

Through Musical Communication to Development of Competence in Culture Awareness and Expression

This study presents an example of a music workshop which brought together pupils and students of different music schools, students of musicology, composition and classroom teaching, teachers, professors and composer on the common topics in contemporary music. The purpose of the workshop was to encourage an active and creative participation of everybody involved in a way that went beyond the usual practice used in cultural activities in education. In this respect, the workshop emphasised the importance of the creative expression of experience, ideas and emotions in the field of music. The results of the interview, which were conducted by some of the workshop participants, point out the complex occurrence of various indicators, which at the level of personal and social factors have determined the nature of communication through contemporary music and indirectly influenced the development of competence in cultural awareness and expression. Challenges identified included students＇ lack of musical experiences for contemporary music at all educational levels, the low priority given to contemporary music in schools as well as teachers＇ lack of professional knowledge in this field. The study highlights the need for more experience in contemporary musical language in general and music professional schools.     

Study on the Translation of Puns in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland from the Perspective of the Functional Equivalence Theory

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is a world-famous masterpiece in children’s literature.The adventure stories in the novel deeply attract the child readers in different countries in the world.The use of puns in the work adds to its aesthetic value.In China,many scholars have translated it.The research topic is the application of Nida’s theory of functional equivalence in the pun translation in children’s literature work Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the degree of equivalence in Wu Juntao’s translation.The person who does the research has read the original work and the translator Wu Juntao’s translation of this book,analyzed the translation of puns in the book,read the relevant journal articles on the theory of functional equivalence and thought about the academic views in them.On the basis of text reading,translation analysis and reference analysis,the following conclusion has been made:According to the basic points in the theory,in the work,Wu Juntao’s translation of the puns has basically achieved the equivalence between the original text and the target text in readers’responses,language style and language meaning.     

The Missing of Emotional Feelings in the Translation of Ci Works——A Comparison between Yulingling and Its Translation

Yulinling is a famous piece of Ci by Liu Yong of the Song Dynasty.It is one long-cherished classical in lamenting the sorrow of departure.The author pictures a gloomy scene of separation:the cold autumn,the long corridor,the misty sea and the lonely boat,all the scenes depicting the sorrow and unwillingness of the separation between the two who are in deep love.The translator translated it into Eng lish in order to express his depressive feelings but he did not convey the depressive meaning of the original Ci in full extend.He lost some of the intentional feelings of the original in his translation.Through the comparison between Yulingling and its translation,the paper dis cusses the missing of emotional feelings in the translation of Ci works.     

Value Choice and System Enlightenment of the U.S.Business Judgment Rule

Through analyzing theories and legislative cases in respect of Business Judgment Rule in American justice systems with the com parison method,this article reveals that the business judgment system is conducive to the protection of rights and interests of the directors in decision making,and enables the court to avoid the substantive review on business management in an effective manner;at the same time,in view of the blanks and deficiencies in the legislation of China in the "Company Law" and other relevant laws,it is recommended that the Business Judgment Rule be introduced into China and the legislation in respect of director accountability be strengthened,while the direc tors fiduciary duty and other supporting systems be improved,with the reference of the U.S.practice,to clarify the legal boundary between rights and responsibilities of directors.     

Translation of Images in Seven-character Quatrains Based on the “Aesthetic Level of Translation”

Image is a term that mainly embodies in the composition of classical Chinese poetry(CCP). Effective translation of images is crucial to the grasp of original meanings in a poem. As aesthetic beauty is the primary concern in poetry,the conveyance of beauty in image has a direct impact in translation. To analyze translation strategies of imagery beauty,the theory of“translation levels”by Xu Jun is adopted as a criterion in comparing variant English versions of CCP in the aesthetic level. Images are selected from Seven-character quatrains typified for abundant sources of images,and features of images are put forward at the aesthetic level. Through the analysis,images are rendered by recreation of the sensuous and emotional beauty.     

Globalization and Foreign Language Education at a Chinese University

This essay begins with a brief introduction to the changes in foreign language education policy and the main motives for those changes in the context of socio-political circumstances. It then examines the development of language education system in a new college of a university in China over a period of ten years in relation to the issue of internationalization and globalization.The study shows that the language education system of the new college has developed in parallel with the recently-emerged trends in language education in China. Finally,it seeks to interpret these trends in terms of global,national,regional forces that currently drive it forwards.     

A Review of Learner Autonomy in Language Learning

Learner autonomy,the ability of taking one’s own learning in charge,plays an important role in language learning.The paper reviews the definition and the level of learner autonomy,the characteristics of autonomous learners,the application of learner autonomy in the classroom and out of the classroom and the relationship between learner autonomy and culture.In the paper,the development and the study of learner autonomy in China are also summarized.     

Effect of nitrogen doping on the reduction of nitric oxide with activated carbon in the presence of oxygen

Nitrogen doping of activated carbon （AC） was performed by annealing both in ammonia and nitric oxide, and the activities of the modified carbons for NO reduction were studied in the presence of oxygen. Results show that nitrogen atoms were incorporated into the carbons, mostly in the form of pyridinic nitrogen or pyridonic nitrogen. The effect of nitrogen doping on the activities of the carbons can be ignored when oxygen is absent, but the doped carbons show desirable activities in the low temperature regime （≤500 ℃） when oxygen is present. The role of the surface nitrogen species is suggested to promote the formation of NO2 in the presence of oxygen, and NO2 can facilitate decomposition of the surface oxygen species in the low temperature regime     

Effects of Nivalenol and Selenium on the Metabolism of Aggrecan in the Cultured Human Fetal Chondrocytes

Objective To investigate the effects of nivalenol(NIV) and selenium(Se) on the metabolism of aggrecan in the cultured chondrocytes,and to explore the mechanism involved in cartilage aggrecan catabolism in the process of Kashin-Beck Disease(KBD).Method Aggrecan mRNA expression was studied by RT-PCR.The concentration of GlcUA in culture medium was determined by diphenylenimine-sulfuric acid method.Result NIV significantly decrease aggrecan mRNA expression.That Se can partially antagonize the effect of NIV on aggrecan mRNA expression.The content of GlcUA in medium with NIV was high er than that in other groups.Conclusion NIV could inhibit chondrocyte synthesis aggrecan,promote the loss of aggrecan from cartilage.All the effects result in the metabolic disorder of the cartilage aggrecan,which eventually leads to irreversible mechani cal destruction of the cartilage.It suggested that Se can partially alleviate the effects of NIV on chondrocytes cultured in vitro.     

The Cain Allusion in Jean Toomer’s Cane

Published in 1923, Cane, the representative work of Jean Toomer has been widely studied by critics. Among which,one of perspectives is to analyze the biblical metaphors in the novel. A closer reading of the book shows that the Cain allusion is an unifying theme, for the author once refers Cane as Cain, and most of the characters in the novel are blacks who are believed to be descendant of Cain because of the color of their skin as well as the same suffering of isolation and alienation. Here a study of the Cain allusion in the novel is presented with focus on Karintha’s story in the first part of Cane.

On Negative Transfer in Pronunciation by English Majors in Higher Vo cational and Technical Colleges

In the reform of educational structure in China recently, vocational education is being focused and higher vocational education is developing rapidly. Reflections on the application of the western reproduction theory in the research into the education of China

The ＂reproduction theory＂ was conceived and born in the research into educational inequalities in Western countries. Famous as the theory is, when it is to be applied in the research into education in China, a few factors must be taken into consideration： the subjects investigated must be educational inequalities that have come into being in the context of China; a shift in theoretical approach and expression is needed, with the Functional approach as the dominant research method; in terms of the standpoint of the researcher, whose academic mission and realization of social ideals should be closely and fully integrated; in terms of research method, the principle of combining both the macroscopic and microscopic approaches and analysis on the basis of actual facts should be adopted so as to effectively analyze and solve the problems plaguing the education of China and to promote the localization of the western reproduction theory in China.
