方位名词用法指南

表示方位的基本单词：east（东）、south（南）、west（西）、north（北）。由这四种方位名词组合可以产生新的单词：south—east（东南方）、south—west（西南方）、north—east（东北方）、north—west（西北方）。以上的方位名词的构成与汉语恰恰相反。

<正> 在掌握好英语方位词east,west,south,north,front,back,left,right的词义和用法,根据我的教学实践,我以为辨别其词性很重要。词性不明,则词义不清,用法模糊。如: ①Japan lies to the east of China. ②Japan lies east of China. 上两例的意思相同:“日本位于中国的东面。”但是,例①中的east为名词,意为“东部”,故前面有定冠词the;lie系不及物动词,故lies后用介词to。to在此是“朝、向、对”之意,故例①可直译为“日本位朝中国的东部。”例②中的east为副词,意为“东方”,故前面无定冠词the。又如: ③Guangxi is in the south of China.广西在中国的南部。(句中的south是名词) ④Canada is on the north of the United States.

在表示方向时,汉语习惯说“东西南北”,而英语的排列顺序则是“north,south,east,west”。因此,“东北地区”必须写作thenorth-eastern district,而不可写作east-northern。

新闻写作课教学三谈

职业技术学校培养的是应用型人才,人才的业务素质集中体现在信息交流与思想沟通的能力上。新闻写作课作为重要的基础课,是实现专业培养目标的关键环节。新闻的英文News就是由north、east、west、south四个词第一个字母组成,意思是“四面八方消息的集合”。尤其是现代社会,信息量大,传播速度快,传播手段先进,更应该在培养学生判断、处理信息,表达、传递信息上下工夫。有鉴于此,我在新闻写作教学中作了以下三点尝试。
