THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR AS SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE: SHARED AUTHORITY IN THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DEPARTMENT

The department chair position is vital to the effective administration of both the academic unit and the entire college. Inherent in the roles and tasks of the individual position is a responsibility for consensus development, which in turn requires the involvement of faculty in decision-making activities. This consensual development dictates that faculty who are specialists in their particular academic disciplines be involved in decisions ranging from admissions and grading to institutional policy formation and cross-disciplinary curricula development. The current study was conducted to examine the perceptions of department chairs in the involvement of faculty in departmental decision-making.

STRATEGIES FOR COPING WITH JOB CHALLENGES IN THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE DEPARTMENT: A COMPARISON OF CHAIR PERCEPTIONS BY WORK EXPERIENCE

Department chairs in community colleges face a number of job‐related challenges that have been well documented by practitioners and scholars. Despite the identification of these challenges, few efforts have been undertaken to develop a battery of coping strategies for them. This study sought to identify and prioritize coping strategies related to the challenges of chairing a department in the community college. In addition, the work experience background of practicing chairs was selected to determine differences in the use of the various coping strategies.

酒神精神在20世纪中国文学中颇有影响，莫言的小说《红高粱家族》对酒神精神表现最为充分。作者通过余占整形象表达理想的生命状态，并对现代文明展开批判。但是由于强力型自然人无法确立超越精神，最终只能自我瓦解。     

THE CORRELATION OF THE SUNDAY SCHOOL TO THE WORK OF THE LOCAL CHURCH

This article reports the ways five leaders situated within academic institutions widened the imagination of the role of religious education. From their own contexts and evolving vocations, they led a conversation hosted by the Forum on Religious Education and Academic Institutions. As they shared challenges and opportunities they see, they also showed how their lives prototyped diverse roles for religious educators. In so doing, they create multiple pathways for others to imagine new ways of adapting the field. The author ends with her own conclusions about how robust conversations such as this—across multiple religious traditions and diverse contexts of practice—might contribute meaningfully to the vocational identities of individual religious educators and to new, adaptive networks that may express collective vocations evolving within the field.     

PROMOTING INCLUSION: THE WORK OF THE PYRAMID TRUST

This paper looks at exclusion as a mental health issue. It describes the aims of the National Pyramid Trust and its work to reduce exclusion by boosting the self‐esteem and resilience of primary age children causing their teachers concern. The Trust uses a package of three measures: systematic identification of 7 and 8 year old children at risk of social and educational failure in school, multi‐agency consultation to formulate a preventive strategy on their behalf and short term activity group therapy to promote confidence, social skills and maturation.     

THE THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY THE LABORATORY METHOD IN THE DEPARTMENT OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

This article attempts to develop a practical theology of resistance for religious education. It is inspired by the struggle of indigenous people in Guatemala in their memorialization of the Rio Negro Massacre in Guatemala, celebrations of International Women's Day, and the creation of a school for survivors of the violence surrounding Rio Negro. Remembrance, relationship-building, and reclaiming space will be suggested as practices to be employed by religious education. This article proposes that these three interrelated elements are integral to religious education. It concludes that a theology of resistance equipped with these three aspects promotes and deepens a practice of faith, emunah, to nourish.
