This study examined the personality needs of doctoral students in counselor education who preferred functional specialties as administrators or practitioners. The sample consisted of doctoral students in counselor education at 20 southern universities. Achievement, dominance, order, and social recognition needs, as measured by the Personality Research Form (PRF), were found to differentiate between the groups.  相似文献

Disabilities are commonly conceptualized in dualistic ways—specifically as mental or physical in nature and as located in the self rather than in the “other” or “out there.” In this essay I reflect on the consequences of a more holistic understanding of both handicaps and special education. This new approach, I suggest, would reveal something called a play disability. I review the nature of play before discussing the symptoms of this impairment. I discuss play handicaps on the side of human personality and attitude as well as on the side of the world or would be playgrounds. I speculate on what special education pedagogies for the play disabled might look like, cite the life experience of a handicapped pianist in arguing for the importance of play as a central component of good living, and then conclude with reflections on our unique opportunities and obligations in physical education to address any play deficit disorders we find among our students.  相似文献

The current focus on utilitarian outcomes (e.g., fitness, health, skill development) in physical education has not been effective in producing life-long movers and makes physical activity a duty to be performed. An alternative to a utilitarian focus is to have a joy-oriented focus in which physical activity is promoted because it is joyful, pleasurable, and personally meaningful. In this paper, we present factors that inhibit a joy-oriented focus in physical education and reasons physical education teacher education (PETE) programs have thus far failed to produce joy-oriented physical education teachers. We then present a new approach to PETE—the foundational approach—in which the joy of movement forms the foundation of and is threaded throughout the program. Ten specific changes to PETE programs are proposed to produce joy-oriented physical education teachers.  相似文献

Sedentary living is a serious global public health problem that is associated with numerous preventable diseases. Schools are in a position to be the most costeffective public resource to combat inactivity. In schools physical educators are positioned to be the strongest advocates of a healthy, active lifestyle. To effectively promote physical activity on school campuses and to encourage it in communities beyond the school day, physical educators will need to develop skills that are not typically stressed in undergraduate physical education teacher education (PETE) programs. As a result, both undergraduate PETE and in-service staff-development programs will need to be revised if schools are to play a major role in physical activity promotion.  相似文献

Change in education is inevitable. Physical educators are being positioned to effectively manage change and control their own destiny. In order to manage and facilitate positive change, physical educators should clearly embrace and accept physical education as a public health tool, understand the educational change process in schools, and know how to manage change through the strategic utilization of Professional Learning Communities. Physical educators can shape the culture of schools by increasing physical activity levels for students in physical education while facilitating physical activity opportunities for students and faculty across the school day. Given that physical education is a subsystem of the larger school system, each physical educator must understand the nature of change in schools and how to successfully influence it. Professional Learning Communities provide a structure for physical educators to take the helm by influencing positive and systemic change, shaping culture, and advocating for increased physical activity in schools.  相似文献

传统的人格研究受到本质论的影响,人格与文化分别处于独白之中。"独白的"人格作为文化中的客体是抽象的和静态的。静态的人格不能全面阐释文化与人的关系。在建构主义思想的影响下,"对话的"自我开始替代"人格",自我作为文化中的主体是动态的和开放的存在,与文化之间是一种对话的关系。人格与自我的分野体现了心理学研究的一种新趋势:愈加重视研究的交往性与真实性。  相似文献
