Teacher professional development variously supports ongoing skill development, new knowledge, and systems change. In New Zealand, the implementation of major assessment reforms in senior secondary schools provided opportunity to investigate teacher professional development as a function of the particular stage of an educational reform. Multi-method data sources including teacher surveys and school case studies were employed to evaluate professional development during the embedding stage of a standards-based assessment system, revealing a positive relationship between professional satisfaction and teacher involvement in setting priorities for the professional development. Other positive features were networking, personalized learning, and facilitator expertise. This research illustrates the importance of tailoring professional learning to implementation phase of an organizational change.  相似文献

Abstract

In education, research presents a number of challenges. One of these is to ensure that educators are well placed to utilise the outcomes of research, and conversely that the profession is able to inform the research agenda. This is as true for the application of information and communications technology in education, as in any other field. At the same time, there is a growing perception that the education profession needs to become more ‘evidence based’ and draw on educational research and validated good practice. This applies to teachers in all phases of education, from the nursery school to the university, and to those who provide services to education and training and inform their strategic development. However, because teaching and learning take place in increasingly complex environments and across multiple organisations and systems, careful interpretations are required to put research into practice.  相似文献

This paper reports on a study of the implementation of a Computerised Information System (CIS) at the Ministry of Education in Botswana, and the use of CISs in secondary schools in Uganda. The findings portray the levels of use, the impact of CIS use, and the factors that influence the utilisation of the CISs in both countries. Although both countries have recognised the potential of CISs for managing educational institutions, the utilisation of these information systems were still at an early stage. Users’ perceptions of the impact of CIS use were in general very positive. Factors critical for CIS use in Botswana were the quality of the information the CIS provided, and the amount of user training. In Uganda, the amount of CIS use was especially dependent on the extent of training, and the support from the information system administrator. Carefully designed user training courses are considered important in promoting wider and better CIS use.  相似文献

Although increasing attention is being paid to the impact of the mass media on society in general, media studies has still to find its place as a mainstream subject in most school systems. Many teachers are drawn towards it as an area of obvious importance in students’ lives, while at the same time being hampered by doubts and obstacles, some of their own making, some not. This article explores the thoughts of a group of Northern Ireland teachers on the subject and suggests possible ways forward.  相似文献

This article argues that the recent national reports on educational reform must be understood as manifestations of the influence of capital and the state. The considerable pressure exerted on the schools by representatives of state capitalism does not guarantee that the proposed reforms will be enacted, however. The contradictory nature of the school's location in the democratic capitalist state, coupled with various forms of teacher and student resistance to the reports' recommendations, afford the opportunity for progressive educators to strip away the mystique of the school as a neutral site and to challenge the dominant ideology.A somewhat different version of this paper will appear in Shea, C., Sola, P., & Kahane, E., (eds.),The New Servants of Power: A Critique of the 1980's School Reform Movement. 2001年末,由中央电教馆和北京电教馆、贵州电教馆有关同志组成的远程网络教育考察团对澳大利亚、新西兰进行了为期15天的参观考察。现在把所见所闻记录下来,给大家提供参考。一、整体印象(一)澳大利亚国土面积760万平方公里,但人口只有1960万,不到我国人口的1/60。新西兰的国土面积是268,103平方公里,人口360万,其国土面积相当于日本、英国,但人口只有北京的1/4多一些。优越的地理环境、辽阔的国土,为其提供了得天独厚的生存与发展条件。这两个国家法律完备,社会稳定,经济发展,福利较高,但市场  相似文献
