Summary The published literature specific to electronic serials cataloging over the decade of the 1990s and the work of CONSER, MARBI, the ALCTS Committee to Study Serials Cataloging, and others were reviewed to identify issues and developments. The proliferation and the changing nature of e-serials were challenges to catalogers throughout the period examined. Policies and procedures were offered by CONSER and its members. Europe in the 1990s will be a dynamic media market, demanding a wide variety of products. Mass communication will give way to market-segmented media. This market will not be dominated solely by a few giants, but will have room for players of all sizes. The electronic and print media will complement each other. The European market of the 1990s will not be unified: linguistic, psychological, and cultural barriers will maintain and perhaps even strengthen local markets. And competition for both markets and rights will grow. This suggests that the successful European media companies of the 1990s will need to be sensitive to a variety of cultures, as well as experienced, managerially competent, and in possession of a strong infrastructure in both the international and local markets. 相似文献

A survey of thirty-three museums of various kinds in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States sought to identify the features distinguishing the more effective organizations as assessed by independent experts. Staff at each museum responded to a questionnaire about features common to all organizations as well as some particular to museums. Teamwork, a concern for quality, and an emphasis on public programming are common to effective museums. Executive leadership champions a vision, models appropriate behavior, and works together effectively. Board members use their skills and knowledge to advance the organization's mission. There is a concern for quality, shared goals, good communication, respect for the contribution of others, attention to training, strategic allocation of resources, and an integrated, flexible, and responsive structure.
