Abstract

Geogames are complex location-based games for smartphones and they are part of a critical discussion within the community of environmental education. The aim of the study is to asses if smartphone games are suitable to foster connectedness to nature and if there are differences between a complex Geogame and a less-demanding treasure hunt. For this purpose, two established scales are used in a pre-post-test-design: the inclusion of nature in self (INS) and the disposition to connect to nature (DCN). Furthermore, the game-related enjoyment was controlled. The results reveal a significant increase of the INS for both game formats, with the strongest effect for the former more nature distant subjects. The DCN-scale shows a similar tendency but not a significant gain. Between the game formats, no significant difference is detectable. So, the main effect seems to be the location-based activity in nature guided by smartphones, not the complexity of a Geogame.  相似文献

It has been suggested that a positive human–nature relationship is essential for countering today’s environmental problems. Prior environmental education research has focused largely on knowledge or attitudinal outcomes, and few studies have examined the ability of environmental education programmes to promote connectedness with nature. Therefore, our goal was to (1) examine differences in connectedness with nature among a sample of children with differing ages and academic tracks, and (2) investigate whether environmental education can help promote and sustain connectedness with nature. With a pre-, post- and retention test design, we assessed a comprehensive four-day environmental education programme on water at a school field centre, using the inclusion of nature in self (INS) scale to identify the change in connectedness of 9–10-year-old pupils and 11–13-year-old pupils. We found that younger children and university-track pupils had higher INS scores than older children and general-education-track pupils, respectively. Participating in environmental education resulted in a robust short-term increase in connectedness with nature in both age groups. However, only the younger pupils’ connectedness remained sustained four weeks following the treatment. Environmental educators should keep in mind that strengthening connectedness to nature is more sustainable before the age of 11.  相似文献

Interpersonal neural synchrony (INS) has been previously evidenced in mother–child interactions, yet findings concerning father–child interaction are wanting. The current experiment examined whether fathers and their 5- to 6-year-old children (N = 66) synchronize their brain activity during a naturalistic interaction, and addressed paternal and child factors related to INS. Compared to individual problem solving and rest, father–child dyads showed increased INS in bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and left temporo-parietal junction during cooperative problem solving. Furthermore, the father’s attitude toward his role as a parent was positively related to INS during the cooperation condition. These results highlight the implication of the father’s attitude to parenting in INS processes for the first time.  相似文献

Air navigation has evolved over the last hundred years from an art into a mature science. Airplane accidents due to navigational errors are practically nonexistent. In large measure this advance has been due to radio aids to navigation which operate under all weather conditions. However in remote areas and in hostile airspaces, the radio aids may not be available and a fully self contained navigational device is required. Navigation by stars (celestial navigation) is feasible under such conditions. But the inertial navigation system (INS) is the preferred choice. In recent times, a navigational instrument based on radio communication with specially designed satellites in low Earth orbits called the global positioning system (GPS) has become popular. Self-regulated learning (SLR) is a socially embedded process in which individuals use strategies to influence thoughts, behaviours and environments in ways that enable them to achieve their academic goals. As a form of engagement that is almost exclusively associated with academic success, empowerment and agency, researchers are committed to improving conceptualisations of, measurements for and pedagogical interventions related to SLR. However, there is little attention to critical issues that underpin this discourse. Against this trend, I explore an alignment between SLR and neoliberalism, which is a contentious ideology that is implicated in reproducing inequality, promoting radical individualism and eroding democratic responsibility. From this alignment, taking up the aim to teach students to regulate their learning is implicated in: (1) creating manageable workers; (2) endorsing a view of self and personhood that is class-based; and (3) contributing to efficiently and effectively reproducing a class hierarchy. Environments that teach and reward SLR may pose greater disadvantages for working-class students than their middle-class counterparts.  相似文献

The role of social anxiety, social withdrawal, and locus of control in the developmental level of interpersonal negotiation strategies (INS) when resolving hypothetical conflicts was examined in a short-term longitudinal study (fall and spring). Applying a balanced design, 96 children aged 8 and 11 from 8 classes participated in the study. At both assessments, results indicated that sociable children were more likely to exhibit greater competence in INS than socially withdrawn children. However, both concurrent and longitudinal analyses indicated that degree of social anxiety tended to influence this relation. Among less socially anxious children, the sociable children did exhibit greater INS competence than those more socially withdrawn, but this relation was not revealed among the more socially anxious children. Finally, on the whole, children who showed internal locus of control were more competent at INS than children with external locus of control.  相似文献

This paper presents one case of broadband‐enabled learning (BEL) involving geo‐culturally and organisationally diverse collaboration using music as the vehicle. Findings from five evaluations over a 15‐month period were considered in relation to issues of relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability. Advantages included access to mentors, peers, and experts; support for cross‐cultural and linguistic collaboration, interaction, and exchanges; promotion of a more open classroom; and exposure to alternative and new experiences. Compatibility with existing practices was evident, however, cross‐cultural interaction presented difficulties as did synchronous communication across time zones and between institutions. BEL technologies are complex, however, users can develop a capacity to use the tools if provided with adequate support. Trialability is dependent on access to a high‐speed connection and equipment, multiple partners, development of technical expertise, and support. Use of videoconferencing and choice of subject area can enhance observability.  相似文献

The bender element testing features its in-plane directivity, which allows using bender elements to measure the shear wave velocities in a wider range of in-plane configurations besides the standard tip-to-tip alignment. This paper proposed a novel bender element testing technique for measuring the horizontal shear wave velocity of soils, where the bender elements are surface- mounted and the axes of the source and receiver elements are parallel to each other. The preliminary tests performed on model ground of silica sand showed that, by properly determining the travel distance and time of the shear waves, the surface-mounted bender elements can perform as accurately as the conventional "tip-to-tip" configuration. Potentially, the present system provides a promising nondestructive tool for characterizing geomaterials and site conditions both in laboratory and in the fields.  相似文献
