Innovation is known to be used by some businesses to help them differentiate their trading position within a specific locale. Research has also proven that by adopting a strategy, aims can be achieved and turnover increased. This study will endeavour to use these two key areas to evaluate how, they are used and to what extent they can improve business performance. The study was carried using 145 Micro and SME business, located within the rural county of Lincolnshire. The businesses were taken from specific locations on a random basis which included rural, remote rural and urban settings. Initial findings found that businesses situated within remote areas performed better than those within the other test areas, leading to the conclusion that they use innovation as a strategy to outperform their business rivals.  相似文献

Information technology (IT) incidents that make data inaccessible may cause businesses to lose customers, reputation and market position. Previous studies on information management have identified data availability as a key priority, and the literature on disaster recovery and business continuity describes ways of preparing for and avoiding IT incidents. However, no frameworks for information system continuity management (ISCM) have yet been validated. This research draws on a framework for business continuity management, and extends it to the context of information systems. The framework is validated in a survey of IT managers and chief information officers in large private and public organisations operating in Finland. The results suggest that the embeddedness of continuity practices in an organisation has perceived business impacts whereas, in contradiction of previous theory, there is no such direct relation in the case of organisational alertness and preparedness. The theoretical contribution is to validate the ISCM framework statistically. On the practical level, social factors such as committed managers and employees are influential in decreasing negative business impacts. Further research on the embeddedness of continuity practices is called for.  相似文献

The “relation to time” refers to the way time is apprehended. Despite calls to further integrate the time variable in family business research, studies remain few and do not compare with other organizational forms. This conceptual study highlights the largely antithetical relation to time of family businesses and start-up companies to deduct proposals in terms of governance, investment, innovation and socioemotional wealth. The discussion looks at the positive and negative impacts of these two types of relation to time and suggests that leaders develop the absorptive capacity of their businesses to enrich their practices with approaches proven in other forms of organizations.  相似文献

Businesses have begun using IT apps for a variety of reasons in recent years. The rapid advancement of new technologies has opened up vast prospects for businesses to digitise their operations, enhance their use of information systems, and compete more effectively in the global marketplace. Information technology (IT) businesses can benefit greatly from Big Data analytics due to the depth and breadth of their data analysis. Big data can be used to examine IT departments in the following ways: performance analysis, forecast maintenance, security analysis, and resource analysis. When it comes to boosting their business's dependability, speed, quality, and effectiveness, most companies rely on big data. Companies can gain a competitive edge thanks to the massive amounts of data that big data is able to collect, store, and manage. Big data analytics is being used by a growing number of businesses to make sense of their mountain of data. In this paper, we examine the ways in which IBM, TCS, and Cognizant use big data within their operations. Long-term planning strategies and business intelligence practises are also suggested in this research as means of protecting personal information.  相似文献

基于B2C商务模式下商家和消费者的信息不对称现象。将多种因素引入商家与消费者交易的博彝模型,进行完全信息静态博彝分析,进而得出影响纯蚋什均衡和混合蚋什均衡的因素主要有:产品成本、商家的交易成本、消费者受骗的精神损失、消费者对商品的评估价值与商品价格之差。最后提出此种信息不对称的消减措施.从而提高B2C商务的市场效率。使商家和消费者的利益最大化。  相似文献

This paper addresses customer perceived value in the context of high-technology industry, specifically in the software business. Customer perception of value is a complex phenomenon not only theoretically, but even more so in practice. We have chosen to examine this phenomenon in the specific context of the software business, as we believe that software as an object of exchange encourages fresh viewpoints owing to its abstract nature. Our study is exploratory in nature, with an empirical insight gained through two qualitative case studies from the software business. The conclusion presents elements of customer perceived value within both software project and product businesses. Based on the findings, we suggest a framework for examining the way business logic influences the customer's value perception, especially in terms of the complexity of the perception of both benefits and sacrifices.  相似文献

This paper reports on a survey of 221 web sites chosen at random from a subset of the .co.uk area of the Internet. A breakdown of the types of business represented shows that whilst computing companies continue to have a sizeable presence on the web, certain other types of business now also have a relatively large number of sites. The survey found many media-related businesses and professional-based companies and practices, reflecting the increasing use of Information Technology in these areas but also the increasing knowledge about the Internet that is needed or helpful in many types of job. The results are consistent with general business use of the web in the UK still being in an experimental phase of web site creation by those who can rather than by those who should.  相似文献

Abstract

A critical success factor for businesses in the twenty‐first century will be their ability to meet the environmental demands for complex coordination of action and rapid adjustments to volatile markets and global competition. Business teams are effective mechanisms for addressing the need for dynamic, flexible organizations that can effectively cope with complexity and turbulence.

Business teams are not a new phenomenon, but there is a new element in the equation: the use of information technologies (IT) to leverage team effort. Information technologies can enhance team performance through support of interaction processes by providing two types of functionality: coordination support and task execution support.

An agenda for action for moving forward a team‐based organization and use of information technologies for support of business teams is provided.  相似文献

Lack of a close ‘Information systems (IS)–business relationship’ has been described as a potential inhibitor to improving the contribution that information systems (IS) make to business performance. Yet the value of specific attributes of an enduring relationship between IS and business remains to be demonstrated by empirically confirming their link to IS performance. Using data collected from 167 South African and Australian companies, this study examined the effect of three relational attributes, namely commitment, mutual understanding and shared vision, on the contribution of IS to business performance. The study also examines the interrelationship amongst the relational attributes. Results revealed that a strong IS–business relationship is a significant determinant of IS performance. Organisations more successful in their use of IS are characterised by strong commitment on the part of the business to IS efforts, higher levels of IS understanding of the business, and a long-term agreement, between business and IS executives, on IS priorities. Results have important implications for organisations looking to improve the contribution of IS to organisational performance.  相似文献

Small businesses face numerous issues in regard to the management of their knowledge, including potential loss of knowledge due to high employee turnover and the willingness and ability of employees to share their knowledge. This case study examines two small ICT companies in Vietnam to determine how knowledge transfer was conducted with and without the use of ICT. A knowledge transfer framework for small businesses was used as a lens to analyse the results. The findings showed differences in knowledge transfer approaches in both cases. It was observed that employees whose jobs required less flexibility needed more explicit knowledge, but if their working procedures were more flexible they were more likely to need tacit knowledge. Tacit knowledge was mainly transferred by non-ICT methods, with explicit knowledge being transferred via a combination of methods. The cases differed in regard to the existence of knowledge transfer guidelines – as well as the willingness and ability of employees to share knowledge with others in the business. Both case businesses lacked appropriate measures to determine the level of success of knowledge transfer activities.  相似文献

Nowadays we use information retrieval systems and services as part of our many day-to-day activities ranging from a web and database search to searching for various digital libraries, audio and video collections/services, and so on. However, IR systems and services make extensive use of ICT (information and communication technologies) and increasing use of ICT can significantly increase greenhouse gas (GHG, a term used to denote emission of harmful gases in the atmosphere) emissions. Sustainable development, and more importantly environmental sustainability, has become a major area of concern of various national and international bodies and as a result various initiatives and measures are being proposed for reducing the environmental impact of industries, businesses, governments and institutions. Research also shows that appropriate use of ICT can reduce the overall GHG emissions of a business, product or service. Green IT and cloud computing can play a key role in reducing the environmental impact of ICT. This paper proposes the concept of Green IR systems and services that can play a key role in reducing the overall environmental impact of various ICT-based services in education and research, business, government, etc., that are increasingly being reliant on access and use of digital information. However, to date there has not been any systematic research towards building Green IR systems and services. This paper points out the major challenges in building Green IR systems and services, and two different methods are proposed for estimating the energy consumption, and the corresponding GHG emissions, of an IR system or service. This paper also proposes the four key enablers of a Green IR viz. Standardize, Share, Reuse and Green behavior. Further research required to achieve these for building Green IR systems and services are also mentioned.  相似文献

在技术、顾客需求快速变化的环境中,合作创新无疑是企业共享资源、降低创新风险的一种有效方式。经济学家对合作创新的早期研究主要关注企业的合作动机,现在,“怎样合作”不仅是企业家关心的问题.也成为学术界的研究热点之一。国内外众多学者的实证研究发现,以交叉许可协议为代表的非产权形式的合作模式占绝大多数(70%左右),而合资研究企业为代表的产权形式的合作模式所占比例较小(30%左右)。本文从知识合作的角度分析企业合作形式选择的演变、行业特点以及不同行业的知识合作模型与企业合作形式的关系。  相似文献

改革开放二十多年来,中国的家族企业有了长足的发展,在企业发展的同时,家族企业的治理模式也在不断变化。本文以正泰集团为样本,分析公司的治理模式,以及治理模式在发展中的转变过程。我们采用了计量经济学的研究方法,建立了治理模式以及相关因素对企业绩效影响的计量模型。实证研究显示,治理模式对企业绩效确实有显著性的影响,该影响具体表现为:在企业规模较小,家族成员持股比例较大时采用强关系弱契约的治理模式能带来更好的企业绩效;企业规模较大,家族成员持股比例相对变小时,企业采用强关系强契约的治理模式能带来更好的企业绩效。  相似文献
