Exploring associations between supervisory support,teacher burnout and classroom emotional climate: the moderating role of pupil teacher ratio

Abstract

In previous studies on classroom emotional climate (CEC), factors related to teacher’s working conditions have rarely been included. Thus, in the current study, we examined associations between supervisory support, teacher burnout and CEC, and whether pupil teacher ratio (PTR) moderated this association, applying a randomised-control trial design. Participants were students from 300 classes at the end of grade 1, and 300 teachers. Structural equation modelling (SEM) revealed significant relations between supervisory support and teacher burnout and between teacher burnout and CEC. Supervisory support was indirectly related to CEC through teacher burnout. Finally, PTR moderated the association between teacher burnout and CEC.

教学计划是学校教育教学过程中的指导性文件,如何制定和实施教学计划直接影响人才培养的质量。针对高师院校教师教育存在的问题,应通过改革师范生的教学计划来解决。     

校园文化与一流大学创建--兼论华中科大的校园文化建设

如何打造中国高校的文化品牌，办出中华民族高等教育的特色，是一流大学办学中必须注意的战略性问题。本文主要论述了校园文化建设与一流大学创建的关系，影响校园文化的主要因素，校园文化建设应该处理好的几个关系等问题，并提出要促进校园文化要素的和谐共进又趋于的整合的观点。本文还结合华中科技大学50多年来的校园文化建设实践，总结了一些值得借鉴的经验和做法。     

近年大学生流行语与校园文化风尚——以中国人民大学校园流行语为例

大学生在校园课余生活中使用着许多很有特色的流行语。作为在特定群体和环境中流行的词语,大学生流行语体现了大学校园特有的生活风尚,或真切地反映出大学生内心世界的某些侧面,大都带有较浓重的情感色彩。虽然有部分词汇透露出一些不良思想、情绪和风气,但大学生流行语的绝大部分是讲究技巧的、充满机智的语言,是特定群体的一种口头修辞和语言创新,说流行语一般是富于情趣和幽默感的表现。     

Understandings of current environmental issues: Turkish case study in six teacher education colleges

The purpose of this study is to profile future science teachers’ understandings of current environmental issues in the context of an education reform in Turkey. Knowledge base and understandings of elementary and secondary prospective science teachers about biodiversity, carbon cycle, global warming and ozone layer depletion were targeted in the study. Questionnaire surveys developed for this purpose were adapted and used in this investigation. The questionnaires were administered to 360 participants in six universities. Analysis involved frequencies, percentages and comparing means for students majoring in elementary and secondary science teaching. Analysis of variance for differences among majors and responses to different issues are also included. Findings are compared and contrasted with the previous research in other countries. The study has implications for the prospective preparation of teachers and the future of environmental literacy movement in Turkey.     

The role of socioeconomic background and prior achievement for students’ perception of teacher support

Abstract

Building on the sociological work by Lareau, this study examined the association between students’ socioeconomic background, prior achievement and the perception of teacher support within the classroom. We expected that students from higher socioeconomic backgrounds would be more critical about the support they receive in the classroom and rate their teachers more negatively, while those with higher prior achievement would perceive teacher support more positively. Multilevel models confirmed that there is a negative association between wealth and students’ perception of two dimensions of teacher support, and a negative association between parental educational attainment and one dimension of teacher support. Our findings were in line with the ‘sense of entitlement’ theory by Lareau. Having higher prior achievement was associated with a more positive perception of teacher support, but did not seem to interact with socioeconomic background.     

论大学文化、大学精神与当前校园文化建设——兼谈莆田学院校园文化建设

论述道德教化、良知哺育和价值传承构成大学文化的核心即大学精神,通识教育是培育大学文化的核心即大学精神的重要路径,提出莆田学院校园文化建设要围绕大学精神展开,重视通识教育,形成鲜明特色。     

冲突与和谐:当代高校校园文化的整合

作为社会文化系统的一个重要组成部分，高校校园文化是一种高度集约式的亚文化，它对大学生价值观念的形成和个人行为的选择都具有明显的导向作用。但当代高校校园文化建设也面临着传统文化与现代文化、东方文化与西方文化、物质文化与精神文化的激烈冲突。因此，在充分发挥教育文化功能的基础上，正确处理好各种文化之间的冲突与矛盾，在冲突中求和谐，合理整合当代高校校园文化就成为高校德育的一项重要而紧迫的任务。     

Science adjustment,parental and teacher autonomy support and the cognitive orientation of science students

Research has shown that autonomy support has positive effects on academic development, but no study has examined how systemising cognitive orientation is related to important outcomes for science students, and how it may interact with autonomy support. This prospective investigation considered how systemising and support from teachers and parents influence motivation, self-efficacy and science performance of science students. Totally, two hundred and eighty eight high school students (143 females and 145 males) completed surveys at two times and records of their achievements were collected. Teachers’ autonomy support and systemising were significantly positively related to motivation, self-efficacy and achievement over time, while parental support for autonomy was not directly related to the outcomes. Finally, two significant interaction effects showed that the relation of parental autonomy support to motivation and self-efficacy was moderated by systemising. This is the first study to demonstrate that autonomy support may be especially helpful for individuals with an intrinsic disposition in a domain.     

Beyond cultural competence: transforming teacher professional learning through Aboriginal community-controlled cultural immersion

ABSTRACT

This paper problematises the concept of cultural competence in teacher professional learning arguing instead for opportunities to develop critical reflexivity in the ongoing construction of a pedagogical cultural identity. In the Aboriginal context within Australia, this research study demonstrates how attaining cultural knowledge, understandings and skills is most effective when professional learning is delivered by local Aboriginal cultural knowledge holders. This research study analyses the New South Wales Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Connecting to Country cultural immersion programme for local communities and schools. A mixed methods approach, analysing quantitative and qualitative data from questionnaires and interviews, highlights the significant impact this experience has on teachers in building relationships with local Aboriginal community members. Teachers reported learning new knowledge about local Aboriginal people, culture, history and issues that challenged their assumptions, personal and collective positioning and pedagogical approaches to teaching Aboriginal students. Implications from the study identify the significance of privileging Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing in order to realise culturally responsive schooling and empower teachers as critically reflective change agents in their schools. It further identifies the need for significant human and financial investment so that all teachers can engage with this authentic and potentially transformative professional learning experience.

The role of received social support and self-efficacy for the satisfaction of basic psychological needs in teacher education

We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire study in 2016 with 697 student teachers from two Universities. The study used structural equation modelling to analyse the effects of received social support from family and fellow-students as well as perceived self-efficacy in relation to the basic psychological needs in teacher education. To measure the effects of received social support on the satisfaction of basic needs, we developed two scales adapting Mansfield’s qualitative approach on teacher resilience. Perceived self-efficacy turned out to be effected directly by received fellow-students’ support as well as having a mediation effect on higher levels of autonomy and competence, whereas received family support leads only to higher levels of autonomy. Especially received fellow-students’ support is directly connected to higher levels of need satisfaction. Finally, we discuss conclusions for shaping conditions of university-life according to experiencing what is necessary for a higher level of perception and satisfaction of basic psychological needs.

The Legal Side of Campus Threat Assessment and Management: What Student Counselors Need to Know

This article identifies what student mental health professionals need to know about legal issues of relevance to threat assessment and management. The article summarizes the common law duties and the common law and statutory standards of care that are likely to apply to the work of college and university threat assessment and management teams. The article also addresses privacy law, disability law, policy, and documentation-related issues that often present challenges in the campus threat assessment and management context. In sum, the article strives to educate student counseling center professionals so that they can contribute effectively to the important work of threat assessment and management teams without being hindered by potential misconceptions about legal issues.

高校突发事件心理干预机制研究——基于心理弹性和社会支持的作用

采用领悟社会支持量表、自我心理弹性量表及自编高校突发事件心理适应问卷,对1132名大学生进行调查及考察心理弹性、社会支持与突发事件心理适应水平的关系。结果表明:心理弹性和社会支持能共同显著预测突发事件心理适应水平,其中心理弹性的影响作用大于社会支持,且心理弹性在社会支持与突发事件心理适应水平之间发挥着部分中介作用。
