副语言是一种有声音但没有固定意义的语言,是人们在言语交际活动中,根据具体的语言环境,用它来伴随有声语言表达一定的意义,彼此进行交际的一种语言.它是言语交际中伴随着有声语言产生的一种必不可少的表情达意的重要手段,起着极其重要的影响作用.加强对副语言的研究,有助于我们更加清楚地了解和掌握言语交际中的话语意义.     

非语言手段及其在交际中的作用

语言是人们交际的重要手段，但不是唯一的手段。包括表情、身姿及手部动作在内的“伴随语言”和包括语音、语调等在内的所谓的“副语言”同样也是交际中不可或缺的因素。从语言学、交际学及社会语言学的角度来看，伴随语言和副语言作为与“语言”手段相对的形式而参与交际，称为“非语言手段”，对语言信息起着支持、补充和修饰作用。非语言手段具有交际功能、交际意义，在某些特殊交际场合中起重要作用。     

副语言能力在外语学习中的重要性

在日常生活中人们大多数时候都注重语言交际,认为交际的手段主要是言语而忽略另一种重要交际手段——非语言交际即副语言的作用。很多时候,我们并没有意识到真实情感信息在很大程度上是依靠非语言即副语言特征传递而不是言语性交际传递。心理学家Albert·Mehrabian设计了一个公式:信息的全部效果=7％言语词句 38％声调 55％表情。此公式可以反映出副语言的交际功能的特殊交际作用。这功能越来越为语言学界注目,近年来不少语言学家开始对这交际功能及副语言能力和意识在外语学习中的重要性作进一步的探究。虽然观点不一,但对于身势语有文化、地方差异性的看法则是一致的。     

教师非语言交际在英语课堂中的运用

人类交际分为语言交际和非语言交际两种,非语言交际作为语言交际的辅助手段,在英语课堂教学中发挥着重要作用。教师的非言语行为具体表现为体态语、副语言、客体语言与环境语四种。教师的非言语行为在促进学生的积极性、提高教学效果、创设融洽的课堂氛围和增强课堂管理方面起着必要作用。在课堂教学中,教师要合理、有效、适时地运用人际空间距离、眼神接触、面部表情、副语言、体态、客体语言、环境语,促进课堂教学的顺利进行。
