Managing Architectural Records in the House that Rubber Built: A Case Study in Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration in Museum Archives

Managing architectural records presents a number of challenges, especially in museums and historic sites where a number of disciplines tend to converge. This case study will chronicle the architectural drawings project at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron, Ohio that occurred in two phases over a fifteen-year period. It will present the situations that arose and the multi-disciplinary approaches devised to solve them. It also will illustrate how collaboration across several inherently different yet related professions—including archivists, objects curators, and restoration architects—produced the best outcome and how others can apply these methods to address similar projects.     

Future-proofing the public library

To help guide the public library into the future, architectural design stands as a linchpin that bridges between vast amounts of proliferating information, the librarians who make sense of that information, and the library goers who engage and activate with that information. Future-proofing the public library calls for its evolution, where library buildings grow into new roles that serve as sensorial “idea gardens,” where the presence of virtual and augmented mediums complement the physical book, instead of displacing or replacing its many benefits. To create this type of bridge, it is the architectural design of the public library that can lead the way.     

图书馆建筑空间促进阅读研究——以北美地区图书馆设计最佳实践为例

[目的/意义] 图书馆是促进阅读的重要机构,对北美地区图书馆促进阅读的建筑空间规划设计典型案例展开调查与研究, 为我国图书馆新馆建筑空间发展实践提供参考和借鉴。[方法/过程] 通过演绎归纳的方法提出图书馆"建筑空间促进阅读",并以此为研究视角和内容,采用代表性多案例分析的方法实证释析获得2020年度"ALA/IIDA图书馆室内设计奖""AIA/ALA图书馆建筑设计奖"的11所北美图书馆促进阅读的建筑空间规划设计的内容及其特征。[结果/结论] 北美地区图书馆促进阅读的空间设计充分关注用户阅读需求与行为差异、优秀历史元素和自然环境,实现建筑空间对用户阅读行为的支持和激励作用。对我国图书馆建筑空间设计的启示：重构图书馆阅读促进空间价值认知;发挥空间对信息素养教育的支持作用;阅读空间与地理与人文环境融合发展;建设图书馆空间人才队伍和数据资源库。     

当前图书馆建筑的几个问题

进入21世纪,我国图书馆又将进入一个新的建设高潮。关注人是现代图书馆建筑的基本宗旨;建设多元性的、园林式的、复合型的图书馆应是现代图书馆建筑的模式;在建中心馆的同时还要注意社区图书馆的建设;在重视土建的同时要重视其他方面的建设;建筑招标上实行国内和国际相结合的做法;在注重图书馆外型的同时更要注重满足功能的需要。参考文献4。

藏书楼是藏书活动的建筑载体,是我国传统文化的重要标志之一。中国古代藏书楼在其命名、建筑设计、空间布局和环境建设等方面独具特征,而这些特征的产生既有主观原因,也有客观原因。藏书楼对我国传统文化的传承和保护起到了重要作用,应该对现存藏书楼加以大力保护。

公共图书馆无障碍建筑环境应具备便捷性、安全性、实用性及可持续性。目前,美国、日本及我国台湾地区的公共图书馆无障碍建筑环境已经在政策、理论及实践方面取得了较好的成绩,而我国大陆地区的公共图书馆无障碍建筑环境的实践刚刚起步,仍需要进一步完善和更新。2011年文化部对公共图书馆提出“无障碍、零门槛进入”的要求,公共图书馆应该抓住时代赋予的新机遇,将无障碍建筑环境建设纳入图书馆立法体系,引入“多方参与”的设计理念,注重无障碍设计细节,并加入通用设计理念,以创建公共图书馆无障碍建筑新环境。     

Metatool support for custom-tailored,domain-oriented knowledge acquisition

Metatool support for knowledge acquisition is an approach to automate the implementation of domain-specific knowledge-acquisition tools. Dots is a metatool that can be used by developers to generate domain-specific knowledge-acquisition tools. Whenever a domain model useful for expressing the relevant expertise can be established, developers can use Dots to specify and generate a knowledge-acquisition environment for development of expert systems. Dots assumes that the knowledge-acquisition tools generated are based on the knowledge-elicitation technique of graphical knowledge editing. A salient aspect of Dots is that no particular domain, task or problem-solving method is presupposed by the metatool. We achieve this generalization by introducing an abstract-architecture view—that is, an architectural model of the target knowledge-acquisition tool—as the framework for specifying target knowledge-acquisition tools. Dots provides facilities for editing this abstract architecture and for instantiating knowledge-acquisition tools from it.

浅谈公共图书馆建筑设计理念

采用光沉积-液相化学法调节电子流向,构建了直接Z型TiO₂/Ag/Ag₃PO_{(4 )}(TAAPO)光催化材料.通过扫描电子显微镜(SEM)、透射电子显微镜(TEM)、X射线衍射仪(XRD)、X射线光电子能谱(XPS)、紫外-可见漫反射光谱仪以及光致发光(PL)光谱仪等手段对其进行表征,并对其在可见光照射下催化降解环丙沙星(CIP)的性能进行了研究.结果表明,当水体pH为3.0,催化剂分散浓度为0.3 g/L,CIP的初始浓度为15 mg/L时,光催化降解体系能够取得最佳的去除效果.在该组条件下,光照120 min CIP的降解率约为99%,并且在经历4个循环后仍然保持了良好的降解效果.在光催化降解CIP的过程中,主要反应活性物种为超氧自由基(·O₂

[目的/意义] 图书馆建筑空间和自然人文环境融合能够有效地促进阅读,对国际图联"IFLA/Systematic年度公共图书馆奖"提名或获奖图书馆和获得美国"AIA/ALA图书馆建筑设计奖"图书馆的自然人文环境展开研究,能够为我国图书馆在旧馆扩建或新馆建设中建筑空间体现自然人文环境提供参考和借鉴。[方法/过程] 采用网络调查法和案例分析法对获奖图书馆中馆舍内外部空间的自然人文环境建设较好的部分图书馆进行归纳分析,总结这些图书馆空间建设的相关实践经验。[结果/结论] 推动二者的融合发展,需要创新设计理念与更强有力的理论支撑,同时引导图书馆充分利用自然景观、进一步挖掘地域文化,并最优组合促进阅读的空间因素。     

Development and application of a method for measuring the effectiveness of instruction in a basic speech course∗

This essay develops a phenomenological perspective of silence and illustrates its principles through a study of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Traditionally viewed as the absence of speech, silence is discussed as a potential human response to all forms of symbolic expression. Encounters experienced as silent present a challenge; they also provide the opportunity for authentic self‐discovery, which has implications for the relationship of the individual to others and to the state. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is discussed as an architectural instance of object‐silence. The meanings individuals find at the Memorial can be distinguished in terms of various public signs of understanding that characterize their interplay with the Memorial.

Mapping real-time motion estimation type algorithms to memory efficient,programmable multi-processor architectures

In this paper, an architectural template is presented, which is able to execute the full search motion estimation algorithm or other similar video or image processing algorithms in real time. The architecture is based on a set of programmable video signal processors (VSP's). It is also possible to integrate the processor cores and their local memories on a (set of) chip(s). Due to the programmability, the system is very flexible and can be used for emulation of other similar block-oriented local-neighborhood algorithms. The architecture can be easily divided into several partitions, without data-exchange between partitions. Special attention is paid to memory size and transfer optimization, which are dominant factors for both area and power cost. The trade-offs and techniques used to arrive at these solutions are explained in detail. It is shown that careful optimizations can lead to large savings in memory size (up to 66%) and bandwidth requirements (up to a factor of 4) compared to a straightforward solution.
