Living Library是近年来国内外采用的一种全新的图书馆服务方式.它通过"出借"各种有着特殊职业、兴趣、信仰的Living Books,让其在开放自由的氛围中与读者进行面对面交流,消除偏见,促进理解和宽容.开展Living Library活动为图书馆在读者服务方面开拓了新的更广阔的发展空间.     

A Model Library for Technology:

As part of a technology study for The Free Library of Philadelohia. the consultants (PROVIDENCE Associares IncJ undertook a &view of one of The ~reLei brary's older branch libraries lo determine how a building more than seventy years old could be, effectively and efficiently modified to become a model library for technology. Steven Kieran of Kieran. Timberlake & Harris, Philadelphia architects, were engaged by Ule consultants to study he building and develop a plan for updating the facility. This article summarizes the plan, and includes construction photos and drawings of the proposed changes.     

A Virtual Library for Librarians:

The Joint Academic Network (JANET) in Ihe United Kingdom supports electronic communication, access to online library catalogs, and access to fee-based information services, maintaining services and resources targeted specifically at librarians. This paper focuses on one such service, the Bulletin Board for Libraries (BUBL), and the professional development resources it provides for librarians involved with electronic networking. These include current awareness services, full texts of publications related to networking, training materials, and other resources relevant to libraries and the networked world.

Library Ranking Europe: A New Tool

ABSTRACT

The interest to improve library services is worldwide. Standards, various kinds of assessments and customer surveys are used as tools. To be more successful in their business libraries should pay more attention to the customer experience and use qualitative methods in evaluating services. Library Ranking Europe (LRE) is a pilot project which looks at public libraries from a customer perspective. The method is mystery shopping, anonymous visits to libraries. The aim is to create a ranking system that stimulates benchmarking. The ranking system consists of different factors – categories and subcategories – which reflect library services. In the evaluation, every category is scored. The LRE scale generates a ranking system that categorizes libraries according to the scores from one to six stars, from Poor to Exceptional. The system will be developed further but after five years of testing, we find that LRE offers a relatively easy way to compare public libraries in different European countries. It even makes it possible to evaluate and compare libraries in big cities and small villages. The ultimate goal of this method is to enhance quality development.

Library virtual tours: A case study

Virtual tours delivered via the Web have become a common tool for both instruction and outreach. This article is a case study of the creation of a virtual tour for a university library and is intended to provide others interested in creating a virtual tour of their library the opportunity to learn from the mistakes and successes of fellow librarians. Virtual tours can enhance a library's Web presence as well as provide much needed information to remote or prospective users.
