Using Six Sigma for performance improvement in business curriculum: A case study

During the last few decades, a number of quality improvement methodologies have been used by organizations. This article provides a brief review of the quality improvement literature related to academia and a case study using Six Sigma methodology to analyze students' performance in a standardized examination. We found Six Sigma to be an effective tool for curriculum improvement and team building. The challenges and benefits of using Six Sigma are discussed.

6Sigma管理法是一种灵活的综合性系统方法.当今中国企业面对激烈的全球化竞争,要谋求长远的发展,立于不败之地,必须从根本上提高产品或服务的质量,同时又必须保证成本不会因质量的提高而增加,因此有必要引入在国内外成功大企业中颇受青睐的6Sigma管理法.但是在我国企业特殊的情况下,要以一种科学的观点,客观、公正、严慎地实施6西格玛管理,走一条适合中国特色的6西格玛管理之路.

简要论述了六西格玛管理目标的意义．指出它是一种衡量和优化业务流程的方法学，是一门新型的管理哲学，我国教学仪器设备行业应善于吸收这一新型的管理思想。     

基于6Sigma的采购质量改进方法及案例分析

企业在全球供应链管理环境下,加强采购质量管理已成为企业不可忽视的重要措施。6Sigma被引入企业采购质量管理能有效的提高顾客满意度,同时降低经营成本和周期。文章结合6Sigma管理法分析制药企业采购业务流程,定义采购缺陷,评估采购业务绩效,设定质量改进目标并提出相应改进措施,以期提高采购质量水平。

面对激烈竞争,大学纷纷采用服务致胜战略来提升竞争力。通过六西格玛分析发现,需要从期望和感知两方面来共同提升大学服务质量。期望是学生对大学服务质量的预期。感知是学生在大学中实际感受到的服务认知。大学要提升服务质量,需要达成期望和感知的有效组合,进而提升学生满意度。     

基于LEAN SIX SIGMA的实验室安全管理

实验室安全是实验室管理的重要组成部分,但是在实验过程中学生缺乏安全意识,已经成为实验室的安全隐患。为了培养学生的安全意识,提出把实验安全管理纳入LEAN SIX SIGMA的范畴,从质量管理的角度出发,通过实验教学环节提高学生的安全意识的方法。根据5S现场管理,分析实验室安全隐患,运用LEAN SIX SIGMA技术方法进行改进,全员参与,保证实验室安全。在工科实验室的安全管理中,验证了LEAN SIX SIGMA实现实验室安全管理的方法。结果表明,这是高校实验安全管理中的一种实用和有效的方法。     

企业管理创新与六西格玛管理的关系研究

六西格玛管理与企业管理创新之间的关系问题是近年来理论界争议的焦点问题.企业管理创新的本质特性分析表明,管理创新的本质就是打破现有思维模式的束缚,通过变革管理思路、管理流程、管理制度、组织架构等,打造变革的管理文化.六西格玛管理从企业文化、创新方法、知识创造、团队合作和人力资源管理五个角度为企业管理创新提供创新工具和平台.     

Exploring employee perceptions of Six Sigma as a change management program in higher education

Change initiatives in higher education are frequently guided by an institutional change management program which provides employees with a framework and set of skills to better understand problems and facilitate change at the organisational level. In this paper, we explore employee perceptions of Six Sigma as a tool for facilitating change at one public institution of higher education in the southeast United States. Unlike previous research studies that focused on specific results of change initiatives using Six Sigma, our research team considered how individuals, trained in the implementation of Six Sigma techniques and strategies, viewed the potential of the Six Sigma model to enact and sustain change initiatives in a higher education setting. In this case study, we describe Six Sigma as a change management program in higher education based on Lewin’s Three-Phase Model of Change.     

Helping preservice teachers learn to assess writing: Practice and feedback in a Web-based environment

Writing is a highly valued skill that is often neglected in the classroom; one reason is that teachers often do not receive adequate training in writing assessment and instruction. Teachers, particularly preservice teachers, need practice making detailed assessments of student writing and to build their confidence for assessing student writing, but practical issues of time and resources often constrain the frequency and quality of training they receive. This mixed method study focused on the design and evaluation of an online tool for building preservice teachers’ writing assessment skills and self-efficacy for writing assessment. In the study, teacher education students interacted with actual 4th-graders’ writing samples via a Web-based critical thinking tool. They received scaffolded practice in assessing multiple student papers and justified their assessments using analytic criteria. After each paper, they received feedback that included access to expert assessments and those of their peers, along with both teacher and peer rationales for their ratings. Participants significantly improved in ability to accurately assess student writing using an analytic approach and in knowledge of the writing traits. They also showed significantly greater self-efficacy for assessing student writing and high levels of satisfaction with the Web-based tool and their overall learning experience.

高职院校在实施质量管理的过程中有必要汲取六西格玛理念精髓,以实现办学水平和人才培养质量的持续改进。在探讨六西格玛管理本质及涵义的基础上,通过分析高职院校提升质量管理的核心,提出其在高职院校质量管理中的应用价值,并进一步探讨了六西格玛管理在高职院校中的运用及策略。     

University-industry research collaboration: a model to assess university capability

Scholars and policy makers recognize that collaboration between industry and the public research institutions is a necessity for innovation and national economic development. This work presents an econometric model which expresses the university capability for collaboration with industry as a function of size, location and research quality. The field of observation is made of the census of 2001–2003 scientific articles in the hard sciences, co-authored by universities and private enterprises located in Italy. The analysis shows that research quality of universities has an impact higher than geographic distance on the capability for collaborating with industry. The model proposed and the measures that descend from it are suited for use at various levels of administration, to assist in realizing the “third role” of universities: the contribution to socio-economic development through public to private technology transfer.
