This study investigated loneliness among students with blindness and those who are sighted in Jordan, and examined whether loneliness levels vary according to gender. Students included 90 students with blindness and 79 sighted students selected from high schools and universities in the capital city of Amman. The instrument used to collect information in this study was an Arabic translation and adapted version of the UCLA Loneliness Scale developed by Russell in 1996. The results indicated that students with blindness reported significantly higher degrees of loneliness than sighted students; however, no significant differences were attributable to gender or interaction between visual status and gender. The implications of the findings for families and teachers of students with blindness, and for future research in Jordan, are offered.  相似文献

Three short forms of the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA) have been developed to screen the cognitive skills of young children suspected of learning disorders and developmental delays. Based on a sample of 40 children between the ages 5–13 to 6–13, correlations of .92, .61, and .72 were obtained between the scores of the children on the full form of the MSCA and the Kaufman, Taylor, and MST short forms, respectively. The Kaufman short form also had the highest test-retest reliability at r = .87. The advantages of the Kaufman short form over the other two short forms are discussed.  相似文献

In the United States today, reports abound of violent acts committed by children and adolescents. Once considered safe havens, schools can no longer ensure the safety of their students or faculty. This article presents (a) the public health model of prevention as it applies to the problem of youth violence, (b) causal factors known to be associated with violence and aggression, and (c) practical strategies, which can be incorporated into existing teacher education programs, for addressing violence in the school and classroom.  相似文献

The use of a short form of the WISC (California Abbreviated WISC for the Intellectually Gifted) (CAW-IG) developed for screening gifted referrals was investigated with the WISC-R. Two methods were used to estimate IQ. and the results indicated that the short form could be effective in the prediction of Full Scale IQ. This was true even when the prediction was based on data from the original WISC. Discussion centered on the implications of these results for the use of shortened IQ tests. A number of problems were examined, and practitioners are cautioned against indiscriminate use of such procedures.  相似文献

Scores on Kaufman's (1977) McCarthy short form and the McCarthy Screening Test (1978) were obtained for a sample of 53 first graders in their first month of school. Nine months later, the Metropolitan Achievement Test was administered to the sample. The correlation between Kaufman's estimated General Cognitive Index and the Metropolitan Basic Battery raw score was .71. Biserial correlations between “At Risk” and “Not At Risk” classifications of the McCarthy Screening Test and Metropolitan Basic Battery raw scores ranged from .43 to .78. Kaufman's short form scores usually indicated a smaller number of false negatives than did McCarthy Screening Test scores. Implications of these findings for these findings for first-grade screening are discussed.  相似文献

This article gives a condensed overview of important findings, methods, and theories related to scientific creativity. The topics discussed are grouped into the fourfold classification of the creative product, the creative person, the creative process, and the creative situation. Methods for evaluating the impact and creativeness of the creative product are citation analysis and rating inventories. The section in the creative person presents findings on the presonality of creative scientists and research productivity across the life span. The section on the creative process revies a stage theory of the creative act. Remarks on the creative situation include of summary of factors conducive to creative achievement and a discussion of the problem of multiple discoveries. In one of two additional sections, a comprehensive theory of scientific creativity-simonton's chance configuration theory—is reviewd.
