Jack Kilby demonstrated the working of the world??s first integrated circuit in September 1958. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 2000 for his part in the invention of the integrated circuit. The following paper which is reprinted from the July 1976 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, describes the developments that led to the invention of the integrated circuit.
