This article reviews studies, conducted between 1995 and 2000, on Web search behavior. These studies reported on children as well as on adults. Most of the studies on children described their interaction with the Web. Research on adult searchers focused on describing search patterns, and many studies investigated effects of selected factors on search behavior, including information organization and presentation, type of search task, Web experience, cognitive abilities, and affective states. What distinguishes the research on adult searchers is the use of multiple data-gathering methods. The research on Web search behavior reflects researchers' commitment to examine users in their information environment and exhibits rigor in design and data analysis. However, many studies lack external validity. Implications of this body of research are discussed.  相似文献

In recognition of the increasing availability of remote database searching, the authors propose an instructional framework for making information retrieval conceptually accessible to end-users. This framework was developed from evidence of information seeking patterns by both experienced and inexperienced researchers. Abstract

In the mid-1980s, education and social science librarians began to gather information about libraries' management of test collections. This article looks at the circulation loan patterns represented in past research and compares it to results of a survey conducted by the authors. The survey also determined whether libraries are modifying their policies to provide broader access to psycho-educational test kits for distance education students. Circulation loan patterns reported in past studies are compared with current survey results to determine whether libraries modify their policies to improve access to psycho-educational test kits for online and distance education students. The survey looks at ownership and responsibility of test kits, authorizing access and in-house and unrestricted circulation policies.  相似文献

The information needs of scientists in English-speaking countries have been studied and reported in the library literature. However, few studies exist on the information-seeking patterns of scientists in developing countries, and no study has examined the information needs of medical scientists in developing Asian countries. This study investigated the information needs of academic medical scientists at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. The results indicate that medical scientists have three types of information needs: identifying up-to-date information, obtaining relevant studies and data, and developing research topics. Thai scientists' information-seeking behavior was different from that of scientists in developed countries. The study shows a high use of libraries as information providers; Thai medical scientists rely heavily on information from abroad.  相似文献

The present study investigated communication patterns and subsequent relational outcomes following romantic partners' deception for people with different attachment styles. Information on attachment styles, information importance of the lie, emotional intensity following discovery of the lie, communication patterns following the discovery of the lie, and relational termination outcomes of the 213 participants who reported being deceived by a relational partner were gathered. Analyses revealed that respondents with a secure attachment style were more likely to report talking about the issue, whereas anxious/ambivalents were more likely to report talking around and avoiding the issue. These two attachment groups reported being apt to continue their relationships. Conversely, respondents with an avoidant attachment style reported being more likely to avoid the person after discovery of the lie, and they tended to report terminating their romantic relationships more than the other two attachment style groups. The results were consistent with the hypothesis that communication patterns following discovery of the partner's deception are related to attachment styles, but information importance and avoiding the person were directly related to relational termination.  相似文献

A survey of the faculty at the State University of New York (SUNY), College at Fredonia provided data for an investigation into the effect of faculty work roles upon information gathering. Faculty roles of teaching, research, and service are the key components of academic work. The extent to which these roles influence the faculty member's use of six categories of information sources forms the basis of this investigation. The findings indicate that there are discernible patterns in the faculty's use of various sources of information and that one's commitment to teaching, research, and service are factors that influence information gathering, although not always in the manner that had been predicted. Additional investigation of the research role reveals that the faculty member's age, possession of a doctoral degree, and quality of the doctoral degree have a relationship with commitment to research.  相似文献

Much of health research that examines patterns of health utilization for chronic drug users fails to account for the role of media use and health information seeking. This paper suggests that the nature of drug use is associated with a decreased health orientation that is manifested in media selection and consumption. A comparative analysis was conducted to examine: (1) the differential health perceptions as a function of drug use, (2) the sources of information used, and (3) the relationship between sources of information and primary health care access among chronic users of illicit drugs and socio-demographically similar persons who are not chronic drug users. Results point to both common as well as differential patterns of health information sources. Logistic regression analysis found that medically related sources such as doctors and pamphlets are important sources associated with increased primary care. [目的/意义] 研究用户在多会话网购过程中的信息浏览、检索行为及其行为序列特征,以期更好地理解用户的复杂网购行为,指导购物网站提高服务质量,改善用户体验。[方法/过程] 基于某电商网站1 993名用户的11 514个购物任务的网购访问日志,在识别多会话网购任务的基础上,对用户在经多个会话进行网购过程中的信息搜寻行为进行统计分析,并利用顺序分析和聚类分析方法挖掘其典型的行为模式。[结果/结论] 当会话数量为8个及以下时,用户的浏览和搜索行为呈现出明显的规律性变化,且前4个会话发生时是用户做出购物决策的关键阶段;用户在多会话网购过程中存在6种典型的信息搜寻行为模式,分别有不同的信息搜寻行为特征。理解用户的复杂网购行为,可为电商网站设计导航和推荐策略、制定营销方案提供依据。  相似文献

信息技术的迅猛发展对国民经济的发展具有巨大推进作用,因此,对信息技术的接受行为研究一直是信息系统研究领域的重要议题。技术接受模型是解释和预测人们对信息技术接受程度的基础理论中最为著名、成果也最为丰富的模型。文章对技术接受模型的形成和发展进行简述,重点阐述技术接受模型研究过程中形成的两类研究模式:"TAM++"研究模式和整合模型研究模式,最后结合各学者对技术接受模型研究的观点,得出了信息技术接受行为研究过程中存在的问题及今后的研究方向。  相似文献

[目的/意义]高校图书馆专利信息服务是深层次的学科服务,探索研究专利信息服务内容、模式与趋势有很强的现实意义。[方法/过程]通过对新时期高校图书馆专利信息服务工作的分析,构建四层内容体系:专利信息素养教育、专利信息检索分析服务、嵌入科研团队专利信息服务、决策支持专利信息服务;对各个层次的专利信息服务模式展开研究,重点探索嵌入科研过程的高端专利信息服务模式,并辅以实证研究。[结果/结论]高校图书馆专利信息服务的发展趋势是:构建符合创新人才培养的新型专利信息素养教育模式;延伸专利信息检索分析服务外延并挖掘服务深度;嵌入式专利信息服务是学科服务的创新内容;专利信息服务可为科研及管理提供高级决策支持。  相似文献

Much of the research on the information-seeking behavior of young people has examined either the degree to which they use particular providers or the manner in which they exploit such sources or materials. Considerably less attention has focused on the identification of generic characteristics that relate to the use of a range of information sources. Nevertheless, a recent qualitative research project undertaken in England has revealed that a variety of patterns appear to emerge even when sources of different types are used. While a few are indicative of the nature of the information-seeking process itself, some pertain to users' information-seeking problems and others to patterns of behavior. Many of the recurring features of user behavior reflect attempts by youngsters to simplify the task of information seeking and reduce the effort expended.  相似文献

[目的/意义]如何理解新手在与学术数据库交互过程中其心智模型的演进过程和学习模式是值得关注的问题,探究任务类型对学术数据库新手用户心智模型和学习模式的影响能够更好地帮助用户使用学术数据库。[研究设计/方法]本研究通过77位新手用户参与完成三种不同类型的任务(事实型搜索、探索型搜索和干涉型搜索)前后分别绘制的中国知网概念图的实验,对概念图的结构差异和内容差异进行分析,探讨不同任务情境下学术数据库新手心智模型的演进规律及学习模式。[结论/发现]研究表明用户信息搜索前后心智模型的演进模式受到任务类型的驱动,呈现出不同的概念图结构和维度内容;用户在不同任务的搜索前后均进行了学习行为,但学习模式存在差异,大多数新手用户在事实型任务和干涉型任务搜索后进行了有意义的学习,而在探索型任务搜索后用户进行了初步学习。[创新/价值]从任务类型的影响视角丰富了“搜索即学习”中的新手用户心智模型和学习模式的研究内容,有利于信息专业人员为新手开展信息检索技能培训和优化检索系统设计。  相似文献

Background: The relationship between health information seeking, patient engagement and health literacy is not well understood. This is especially true in medically underserved populations, which are often viewed as having limited access to health information. Objective: To improve communication between an urban health centre and the community it serves, a team of library and information science researchers undertook an assessment of patients’ level and methods of access to and use of the Internet. Methods: Data were collected in 53 face‐to‐face anonymous interviews with patients at the centre. Interviews were tape‐recorded for referential accuracy, and data were analysed to identify patterns of access and use. Results: Seventy‐two percentage of study participants reported having access to the Internet through either computers or cell phones. Barriers to Internet access were predominantly lack of equipment or training rather than lack of interest. Only 21% of those with Internet access reported using the Internet to look for health information. Conclusion: The findings suggest that lack of access to the Internet in itself is not the primary barrier to seeking health information in this population and that the digital divide exists not at the level of information access but rather at the level of information use.  相似文献
