远程教育网络时代教育新方式

人类对知识的渴求从未停止,获取知识的手段也不断更新,高素质的师资、先进的教学设备、灵活新颖的教学方法是人们的共同期望。为了充分利用有限的教学资源,所以产生了跨越时空的教学方式——远程教育。迄今为目,远程教育经历了三个阶段,每个阶段承载教育的媒介都有着重大区别。第一阶段是纸质媒体（函授）阶段,第二阶段是广播、电视媒体阶段,第三阶段是互连网络阶段。     

General Education,Graduate Education,and Instruction in the Use of Libraries

Libraries have an important role to play in the general education process, even at the graduate level. An infusion of education about library resources can help to lessen the insularity which characterizes so much of graduate education in the U.S., and could help to break the cycle which perpetuates the lack of communication between academic disciplines. Various roles suggested for academic libraries in this regard include an approach through disciplinary instruction, a "handmaiden approach" to assisting individual graduate students, and a specific general education role for libraries which cuts across disciplines, through the use of seminars and other general education activities. Computer database searching may be a useful fulcrum, in any of these approaches, to broaden the perspective and the interdisciplinary awareness of both graduate students and faculty.     

Museum Visits,Education, and Topic Interest

This paper compares two perspectives on why individuals visit museums using data from a telephone survey conducted in Minnesota in 1996. One perspective holds that individuals visit museums because of interest in the materials exhibited. Another holds that visits to museums are markers of social status, influenced more by social class variables, such as educational attainment. Information from the survey allows for construction of a set of interest indices, which reflect the respondents' levels of interest in various museum topics. The survey data also allow the estimation of regression models that test the relative roles of interest versus respondents' educational attainment as indicators of their likelihood of visiting any one of five different types of museums. Results show that topic interest is a stronger predictor than educational attainment. The implications for attracting museum visitors are discussed.     

New Fiction,Adult Education,and the Library

Although sales of popular fiction are increasing steadily, the number of serious novelists able to support themselves by writing is decreasing. Because early library emphasis on raising popular taste has lessened and adult education efforts within libraries have diminished, libraries are often held responsible for the novelists' plight. In addition, adult education in general has moved from an emphasis on the liberal arts to a concentration on practical, "how-to" courses. The Great Book Discussion Program was the last major liberal arts adult education effort sponsored by a library. A program for discussion of subsidized quality new fiction is proposed. Novelists would be subsidized by library purchases. Such discussion groups would sometimes appear on a related public television show. The plan would provide fiction with a springboard other than publishers' promotions and literary establishment endorsements.     

Graduate Education for Information Organization,Cataloging, and Metadata

Discussions of cataloging and metadata education are popular in social media outlets, scholarly literature, conference meetings, and so on. This article, the third installment of a longitudinal study on the state of information organization (IO) education, analyzes the recent literature to identify new and continuing themes related to IO education. It provides an overview of the curricula of the 58 library and information science graduate programs in the United States and Canada accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). It examines the current conditions in 2012–2013 and compares them to data from earlier studies. It provides an overview of the types of IO courses available, program requirements, the number of schools offering IO courses, and the number of schools teaching those courses.

今年10月底,全国人大常委会通过关于取缔邪教组织、防范和惩治邪教活动的决定,"两高"作出司法解释,把我国打击"法轮功"的斗争推向彻底胜利的阶段.纵观人类发展史和科学史,邪教现象是20世纪后期一股反科学、反人类、反社会、反政府的反动思潮的极端表现,并非我国独有.它们所编造的反科学的异端邪说及其广有市场,警示我们必须充分认识科学教育的重要性和紧迫性,更深刻地理解科学教育的社会职能,并采取有力的措施着力提高全民的科学素质.     

服务华文教育,传承中华文化-浅谈泰国的华文图书馆

介绍了泰国华文图书馆的发展情况 ,包括其历史源流、藏书量、学科分布、管理模式 ,及在泰国乃至东南亚地区的地位。它兼有服务华文教育和传承中华文化的功能 ,为增进中泰文化交流作出了贡献。     

Education Trifecta: Win Attention,Place Knowledge,Show Understanding

Continuing education for librarians and educating library school students in the areas of technical services are topics often discussed within the field of librarianship. The presenters in this session provided alternatives to “on the job” education for technical services professionals. Two presenters provided strategies for instructing an online continuing education course on acquisitions. The third presenter shared information about the development and teaching of a serials course at a library school.     

审美文化研究三题

20世纪80年代末以来,“审美文化”研究已逐渐成为热门话题交引起了中国学界和社会的关注。在当今经济全球化促进世界文化对话与交流的历史语境中,继承中华民族的优秀文化传统、弘扬先进文化及建设具有中国特色的当代审美文化具有非常重要的意义。本文围绕我国当今审美文化建设,从重视审美文化研究、倡导审美文化批评、开展审美文化教育等三个方面对如何进一步深化审美文化研究问题提出了看法,并呼吁学界通力合作,为创建具有中国特色的审美文化学学科做出无愧于时代的贡献。     

The Past,Present, and Future of Research in Distance Education

Abstract

The articles published in four prominent distance education journals between 1997 and 2002 were categorized and the references cited were tallied. The study provides an opportunity to examine research topics, methods, and citation trends. The results can be used to review current research trends and to explore potential research directions.     

Television Teaching: Parody,The Simpsons,and Media Literacy Education

This paper examines televisual parody as a media literacy educator, and the potential of parody to channel the powers of comedy and entertainment in order to “teach” the techniques and rhetoric of televisual texts and genres. It focuses on the case of the hugely successful and popular animated parodic sitcom, The Simpsons, and its playful attack on advertising and promotional culture. Currently in its 16th season, The Simpsons broadcasts to approximately 60 million viewers in 70 countries weekly, offering a playful critique of television from within the television frame.
