An argument can be made that libraries are businesses, with users as their customers. Given the increasing scarcity of funding and pressure for proving value, academic libraries could benefit from leveraging certain business practices to increase user satisfaction. Creating a comprehensive strategy for building long-term user relationships can solidify support for libraries by engaging with all stakeholders to improve their library experiences. The Customer Relationship Management philosophy described here provides an opportunity for institutions to show their total value to all users and stakeholders and in doing so, improve the business of academic libraries.  相似文献

This column is adapted from a presentation given at the 2018 Library Marketing and Communications Conference. In it, we describe our marketing team’s approach to developing sustainable marketing practices with our library’s strategic goals in mind. In an effort to create reusable, platform-flexible content, we developed social media posts that highlighted concepts from the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy. Our success on social media inspired us to consider how this content could be implemented on additional platforms. The libraries of the six campuses of the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN), in collaboration with UCCSN System computing Services, have developed and implemented a service that provides local and remote networked information resources to faculty, students, and citizens of Nevada through a single point of access. The service, called the Nevada Academic Libraries Information System (NALIS), uses the existing telecommunications infrastructure on the campuses and builds on the library automation programs already present in the libraries. This article explains how the NALIS system evolved through a combination of local circumstances and funding opportunities, describes the components of NALIS, and discusses ongoing issues and future planning related to providing networked information resources.  相似文献

This essay proposes the identification and study of nonusers of academic library reference services. Using the techniques previously applied to different classes of public library users, researchers could benefit from information already available, as well as undertake survey research on lifestyles in academe. The discussion puts forth the claim that nonusers of academic libraries are potential users belonging to the same three groups as current users: faculty, staff, and students. A brief overview of the results of the application of lifestyles research to public library user groups is provided. Finally, the article describes some lifestyle characteristics of each of the three groups and their possible implications for academic library reference services.  相似文献

Information or vertical files in academic libraries are an often neglected resource. This is in part owing to the fact that such files are frequently neither current nor adequately accessible. Yet they have the potential of providing valuable resources and data not found elsewhere in the library. The position taken in this article is that the information file can serve a vital role in the information finding process if it is managed according to standards similar to those generally applied in the academic library for collection building and access. The paper discusses questions that need to be con sidered in developing a collection policy for the information file, looks at appropriate selection tools, and briefly outlines various methods of ensuring adequate access. The appendix contains a list of newsletters dealing with current or controversial issues that are suitable for addition to an academic library information file.  相似文献
