学生英语写作能力培养的几点看法

在英语教学中,写作是“四会”中的一项重要技能,而学生普遍在写作能力上有明显的不足,所以老师在平时的教学中,应充分考虑学生的语言能力及写作目标,采用恰当的教学方式。期间,发现错误与改正错误,紧密结合课本学习是提高写作能力的重要手段。     

Student Reciprocal Peer Teaching as a Method for Active Learning: An Experience in an Electrotechnical Laboratory

Active learning is one of the most efficient mechanisms for learning, according to the psychology of learning. When students act as teachers for other students, the communication is more fluent and knowledge is transferred easier than in a traditional classroom. This teaching method is referred to in the literature as reciprocal peer teaching. In this study, the method is applied to laboratory sessions of a higher education institution course, and the students who act as teachers are referred to as “laboratory monitors.” A particular way to select the monitors and its impact in the final marks is proposed. A total of 181 students participated in the experiment, experiences with laboratory monitors are discussed, and methods for motivating and training laboratory monitors and regular students are proposed. The types of laboratory sessions that can be led by classmates are discussed. This work is related to the changes in teaching methods in the Spanish higher education system, prompted by the Bologna Process for the construction of the European Higher Education Area     

英语写作任务设计的批判性思维

学生批判性思维能力的培养应是高等教育的目标之一,也是英语教学的目标之一。在英语教学中,学生的批判性思维能力培养主要是通过英语写作来实现的。而通过英语写作来培养学生的批判性思维能力又有多种方法,其中之一就是写作任务的设计和执行,即任务型英语写作课堂教学,此模式能使学生在完成英语写作任务的同时完善英语知识,以培养其英语写作的能力和批判性思维能力。本文通过英语写作任务样本分析,从理论上讨论和阐述了写作任务的设计,旨在为英语写作教师在编写教材时或在教学中提供一定的参考。     

后现代写作理论下应用写作教学的思考

应用写作存在以静态文章分析为中心的教学观和以写作过程为中心的教学观。两种教学观在当下的写作教育教学实践中博弈运用,使应用写作课程改革面临博弈现状。以写作过程为中心的教学观下,形成的应用写作课程的价值观、知识观和教学观,对当下应用写作教学改革更具现实意义。     

The communication of laboratory investigations by university entrants

The purpose of the study reported here was to analyse the ways in which unversity entrant science students carry out and communicate experimental activities and to identify a model to explain characteristic communication practices. The study was prompted by a need to inform the development of an introductory laboratory course. The students studied shared an educational background characterised by a lack of experience with laboratory work and scientific writing. Seven groups of three students were studied. The investigative strategies of these groups were observed. Laboratory reports were used to identify the ways in which students communicated these strategies. Data are presented that show a discrepancy between the strategies used and those reported. The results suggest that: (i) students' perceptions of the purpose of a laboratory task influence their decisions on what to report; (ii) understandings of laboratory procedures greatly influence their decision on what to report and on how much detail to include in a report and; (iii) knowledge of discourse rules contributes to effective reporting. It is concluded that students' communication of an investigation results from the differential operation of various perceptual filters that determine both the procedural and discourse elements of their reports. It is recommended that the communication of science should be taught explicitly and alongside the procedures and concepts of science. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Introductory Biology Courses: A Framework To Support Active Learning in Large Enrollment Introductory Science Courses

Active learning and research-oriented activities have been increasingly used in smaller, specialized science courses. Application of this type of scientific teaching to large enrollment introductory courses has been, however, a major challenge. The general microbiology lecture/laboratory course described has been designed to incorporate published active-learning methods. Three major case studies are used as platforms for active learning. Themes from case studies are integrated into lectures and laboratory experiments, and in class and online discussions and assignments. Students are stimulated to apply facts to problem-solving and to learn research skills such as data analysis, writing, and working in teams. This course is feasible only because of its organizational framework that makes use of teaching teams (made up of faculty, graduate assistants, and undergraduate assistants) and Web-based technology. Technology is a mode of communication, but also a system of course management. The relevance of this model to other biology courses led to assessment and evaluation, including an analysis of student responses to the new course, class performance, a university course evaluation, and retention of course learning. The results are indicative of an increase in student engagement in research-oriented activities and an appreciation of real-world context by students.

It is All About Inquiry: A Cross-Disciplinary Conversation About the Shared Foundations for Teaching

Abstract

This paper brings together general principles for teaching inquiry across disciplines with those generally employed in mathematics classrooms. It describes some broad principles of teaching inquiry to first-year writing students and shows how these can be employed in the context of a course on game theory in popular culture. Although undergraduate mathematics may seem miles away from undergraduate writing, especially in first-year courses, we show how common educational practices in inquiry-based mathematics courses are easily adapted to teaching a writing course and how these pedagogical methods can be used to encourage students to develop habits of inquiry.
