Analysis of the Causes of Chinglish in Spoken English among Students

Chinglish is what occurs when the Chinese language and English language crash into one another.When native Chinese speakers who are learning English attempt to directly translate Chinese into English,using Chinese sentence structure,wording and grammar,a blend of Chinese and English happens.Among Chinese English teachers and English as a second language (ESL) foreign experts working with students,this phenomenon is commonly referred to as Chinglish.In order to help students to overcome Chinglish in their oral English and cultivate their sensibility of foreign culture and mode of thinking the awareness of the causes of Chinglish is a must.This paper focuses on analyzing the causes in terms of negative transfer of mother tongue and the differences between modes of thinking and cultural backgrounds.     

The Importance of the Foreign Language Learning Contributing to World Peace

The aim of this paper is to determine the elements which hinder peace, and emphasize the importance of the contribution of foreign language learning to international peace. Language affects the thought and behavior of human beings. To obtain international peace, all the nations in the world should try to maintain and create legal and social background in order to realize their common goal ＂international peace＂. All the governments should come together and develop a common program which provides a contribution to the improvement of the international peace language, which should be taught as a lesson called ＂common peace language＂ in all countries. A Study on the Iconicity of English Language

Throughout the history, arbitrariness put forward by Saussure has been regarded as one of the most designing features of language. Saussure claimed that there is no interrelationship between the signifier and signified, or such relationship can’t be testified but conventional. Later, the famous linguists Peirce and Haiman, who have made great contribution to the ever-heated theory of iconicity, reveal another feature of the language. The purpose of this paper is not to deny the arbitrary nature of language, but to suggest that the nature of language is a combination of arbitrariness and iconicity.

Transitivity system is the core part of systemic-functional grammar,which aims to expose the relationship between language and ideology.This thesis uses comparative methods to analyze the news discourses of the Copenhagen Conference.The study notices that the coverage of news discourses in The New York Times is not as neutral as that in China Daily.Based on the theory of transitivity,on the one hand,it proves the applicability of transitivity to news discourse analysis.On the other hand,the present study tries to provide readers with a different perspective of understanding language and a critical reading method,which helps to raise readers’ awareness of ideology.
