THE MODULUS OF CONVEXITY AND THE EQUIVALENT CONDITIONS OF UNIFORMLY NON-SQUARE SPACES

This paper shows that X is uniformly non-square iff P(η_o)>0 for someη_o∈(0,2).Thus X is super-reflexive if and only if for X there exists an equivalent normwhich meets the above condition.By virtue of the before mentioned result,the author derives the necessary,and suffi-cient conditions for X and l~p(X_j)being uniformly non-square,respectively,and gives acharacterization of finite-dimensional spaces which are uniformly non-square.

MEASUREMENT OF THE DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF BIOLOGICAL TISSUE

An open-ended coaxial line reflection method especially suitable for meas-uring the dielectric properties of biological tissue in vivo is described.This method offersthe advantage of not requiring any special preparation of the samples to be measured but aclose contact with the open end of a coaxial line.It is,therefore,very convenient to acquirea large number of measurement data in broad band rapidly.The method may also be usedto measure the properties of other substances.The measuring system consists of a networkanalyzer controlled by a microcomputer and calibrated by using ANA procedure to elimi-hate the influnce of error network introduced by the adapter,some connectors,etc.In or-der to reach higher accuracy,the iterative method is used to determine the parameters ofthe equivalent circuit.Measurements of permeativities of some living tissues have been per-formed in the frequency band of 0.5-2GHz.Compared with the results known in somepapers,the validity of this method has been confirmed.The difference in dielectric proper-ties between living and dead tissues,and the tissue permeativites(ε)versus frequency andduration of measurement after death have also been measured.

MY OWN OPINONS ON THE TEACHING OF A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Reform and the opening to the outside world needs English teaching and English teaching needs reform. How to reform it and promote the English level of our whole nation as early as possible? This paper puts forward four suggestions macroscopically in that connection:1. To take a correct attitude towards different teaching methods or approaches. 2. To teach a foreign language through the native language. 3. To compile suitable textbooks. 4. To reform the method of the present examination.     

ADAPTIVE ESTIMATION OF THE MEANS AND COVARIANCES OF SYSTEM NOISES

This paper presents a simple and feasible method of estimating the means andcovariances of system noises.The information about the means and covariances is derivedfrom a suboptimal Kalman filter formed via the approximate statistics.An efficientalgorithm is obtained through WLS(weighted-least-square)estimation by using themeasurement residuals of the suboptimal Kalman filter.Simulations are given to show theefficiency of the method.
