This paper analyzes the cultural elements of China’s four traditional festivals from the perspective of the Theory of Cultural Functions, which presents in detail the forming of traditional festivals, varied festival traditions and good expectations held by people toward lives. This paper is also designed with the aim to further exert the functions of traditional Chinese festivals, which as a result, will contribute to the preservation of national characters and the inheritance of national spirits.     

Typical Tragic Character Study on an American Tragedy

The work an American Tragedy is a great work of tragedy.The two main characters,Clide and Robert are typical tragic characters.The author will analyze the work from the perspective of Aristotle’s study of tragedy(悲剧论) and Hegel’s typical character(典型人物性格说).The heroine Robert more or less accords with the typical tragic character that Aristotle and Hegel describe in their studies.Although there are some contradictions with their opinions about tragic character and typical character,in my opinion,an American Tragedy is a great work of tragedy and both the hero and heroine are typical tragic characters.     

Euphemism： Development and its Social Value in Intercultural Communication

Euphemism is a common linguistic phenomenon, which is closely related to culture backgrounds, religious thoughts, life styles, etc. A short introduction to euphemism in English and Chinese will benefit our future intercultural communication. Lots of scholars had studied euphemism from various ways. Such as linguistic, social-linguistic, rhetoric view, pragmatics and so on. From all those studies, we can easily found out that the development of euphemism have a stong relationship with the development of taboo words more or less. In this paper, the author elaborates this topic from their relationship. At the very beginning, a semantic definition and classification were given. a basic knowledge of comparison about taboo words in English and Chinese gave us a basic meaning of the existence of euphemism. Euphemisms are the substance of taboo words. From the relationship of taboos and euphemisms illustrates the national characters in English and Chinese euphemisms. There are religious characters in English euphemisms and class characters in Chinese euphemisms. We know that the communication between us should under the principle of cooperation. But the differences between different culture background, age, sex, status and positions always make the principle out of effect. So euphemism can do a lot to maintain people's social status in our today's society, especially in intercultural communication. A preoccupation about euphemism can avoid some embarrassments in intercultural communication. If we want success in our future profession, a clear knowledge of euphemism is necessary.

Toward intelligent manufacturing： label characters marking and recognition method for steel products with machine vision

Correctly coding materials and identifying characters marked on materials are very important for steel manufacturing industry to realize informatization management and intelligent manufacturing. However, the steel products manufacturing is often in a high temperature environment, and there are a lot of material storage and retrieval processes, workers are not easily close to the environment and complete tasks, so it is a great challenge to automatically mark and identify characters on the steel products. This paper presents a framework of label characters marking and management for steel materials, furthermore, a kind of marked characters online detection and tracking method has been provided based on machine vision. In addition, some experiments have been done in BaoSteel to mark characters on hot billets and recognize them in multi situations, and the results show that the proposed method is practical, and has provided a helpful exploration in obtaining accurate fundamental data for the intelligent manufacturing system in steelworks.

Which form of Chinese characters should be taught in Chinese language classes： traditional or simplified？ The results of a questionnaire distributed to sections at the University of Florida show the reasons for students＇ preferences for one or the other form. In view of the students＇ awareness that traditional characters are more beneficial to understanding Chinese culture, and of revaluations in China of the traditional form as a carrier of culture, the author maintains that the prevalent practice of teaching simplified characters in US classrooms should be modified. Various other linguistic and historical considerations contribute to this recommendation. Finally, the author offers some suggestions regarding methods of teaching.

To ensure continued growth of China＇s solar water heating （SWH） industry, Chinese Government has established a series of national SWH standards, three national testing centers, and a certification program to lay the foundation for the development of the Golden Sun product labeling system. China General Certification Center （CGC） developed the Golden Sun product certification and labeling system on a pass/fail basis evaluating with established criteria. The system was designed to help manufacturers acclimate to explicit consistent requirements and to identify and fix the deficiencies in the design and execution of the program itself. Timely revision and integration of the national standards are recommended to accommodate the test procedures and requirements to new technologies and the evolving SWH ,market. Strict implementation of the Golden Sun certification and labeling system are suggested to avail improving the quality control and forging internationally reputable brands of Chinese solar water heating products.     

An evaluation system for suitability of urban public rental housing construction in Chongqing

A social problem that low-income people are unable to purchase houses in urban areas has been focused in recent years and the housing security system has also become an important part of the social security system. In recent years, public rental houses appeared as a new type of affordable houses. The national government took the construction of public rental houses to the national strategic level. Currently, there are many problems in the public rental house construction. For example, policy mechanisms are inadequate, the use of funding is not in an efficient way, the location of public rental houses is far away from the downtown, the plot ratio is too high, and facilities are incomplete. There are no appropriate indicators to comprehensively evaluate the public rental house construction. Based on the livable evaluation system in Chongqing, we selected four aspects of relevant indicators as the economic suitability, environmental suitability, social suitability, and life suitability to establish the public rental house construction suitability evaluation system.
