Faculty Employment Trends in Criminology and Criminal Justice

The academic job search process is perhaps one of the most important and stressful events for scholars hoping to gain full‐time employment in academia. The stress that this process induces is due, at least in part, to the fact that candidates are forced to make important, life‐changing decisions with very little information. The goal of the present study is to provide an update on faculty employment trends in criminology and criminal justice by examining faculty position announcements posted in The Chronicle of Higher Education (CHE) from August 2004 to July 2009. Findings reveal that candidates seeking assistant professor positions will have the most choice, as positions posted at this rank make up the largest category of advertisements. Furthermore, when a specialization was included in the announcement, most departments sought those with a law enforcement focus, followed by generalists.

Analysis of Employment Trends for Chinese College Graduates from 2003 to 2017

Abstract

This article utilizes data from eight surveys of national samples of college graduates conducted by the Institute of Economics of Education at Peking University in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017 to conduct a trend analysis on employment status and job-seeking status among graduates, summarizing 12 overarching employment characteristics and changing trends for graduates since the expansion of admissions at institutions of higher education in China, and proposing corresponding policy recommendations.

Trends in Instructional Design: Emerging Theory-Based Models

Currently, instructional design theorists are generating new enhancements of traditional design models on both macro and micro levels. This paper summarizes the anticipated changes in instructional design models that will result from today's theoretical activity. It addresses issues such as linearity in the design process, enhanced roles of analysis and evaluation, and the new emphasis on learner control and transfer of training. These model enhancements are being influenced by new interpretations of general systems theory and cognitive learning theory, constructivism, chaos theory, and situated cognition. Predicted model changes also reflect the impact of the new technologies, designer decision-making research, and the performance technology and total quality management movements. These and other intellectual forces are likely to produce diverse models for future designers.
