学术期刊网络生存与编辑素质的提升

在知识新经济时代,学术期刊的编辑比从事其他行业的人更直接地置身于网络世界中,网络迫使编辑在思维方式、工作方式和编辑技能上做出相应的调整:首先,编辑不仅应有开放的思维,而且应有国际化的视野,以搜索最新的科技资讯动态,确保学术期刊的新颖性;其次,学术期刊编辑的各项工作应尽可能地纳入到网络或互联网平台上有序地开展,让作者、读者和审稿专家以编辑部为纽带进行全方位的交流,以保证工作的高效;最后,应全方位提升编辑技能,除掌握传统意义上的编辑技能和专业知识外,编辑应更注重掌握计算机使用和网络应用方面的技能.

本文首先分析了个人知识管理的概念以及与知识管理的关系,重点介绍了三种个人知识管理软件。运用这些软件进行个人知识的管理,学习者可以高效率地整合自己的知识,促进隐性知识向显性知识的转化,提高个人在社会和组织中的价值。     

Relationships, trust and learning: experiences of emerging professionals working in collecting institutions

When emerging professionals start working in archival institutions, libraries and museums (also referred to as collecting institutions), they bring knowledge and skills gained through internships, formal study, volunteer activities and previous work experience. They learn new processes quickly, are passionate about working with holdings or collections and are keen to build their knowledge. They gain exposure to the different disciplines that are reflected in the roles of archival institutions, libraries and museums as they build their professional identity and consider future career directions. What else do they need? A research study about the experiences of a group of individuals embarking on first or subsequent careers and starting new positions in collecting institutions found that relationships were an essential component in developing their skills and knowledge and planning their future directions. The article would be of interest to students looking ahead to working in an archives, library or museum and exploring career paths; supervisors and mentors who work with emerging professionals; professional associations and communities of practice; and educators who have a role in developing curriculum in educational or workplace contexts.     

From Knowledge Keepers to Knowledge Creators

As the location and creation of knowledge become democratized and decentralized, libraries and librarians are rethinking their relationships with the communities they serve and the knowledge they help preserve and produce. This article is about the implications of that transformation.     

Let Go of My iPad: Testing the Effectiveness of New Media Technologies to Measure Children’s Food Intake and Health Behaviors

This field experiment with more than 100 children at a school in the Southeast examined children’s use of an iPad app as a means of improving the measurement of their food consumption. External factors related to children’s food preferences and food consumption were also examined to determine how the iPad app could be further developed to help them become more aware of the foods they ate and how they could become more proactive in their health and well-being. Results indicated that the app enabled children to have more precision in recording the foods that they ate, and children expressed great appeal for the app. The foods that children reported eating via the app were compared to attitudes toward eating and nutritional knowledge; in both cases, more positive attitudes toward eating and stronger nutritional knowledge meant that a child was more likely to report eating healthy foods. Findings from this exploratory study contribute to knowledge in several areas because the findings represent the first of its kind in the discipline.     

A different form of editor—author interaction: the approach of university journals in China

University journals in China exist primarily to showcase the academic research achievements of the university from which they originate. Although they do publish peer‐reviewed articles, their management, distribution, and editorial processes are different from those of regular academic journals. Because they are on campus, the editors of university journals can use face‐to‐face communication to help their authors to revise their papers. To maximize the efficiency of this communication, editors need to prepare well before giving such guidance in order to minimize publication delay, to provide useful guidance to groups of authors, and to improve their own editorial abilities and knowledge.

自主学习中心是指在现代计算机网络支持下大学生进行自主学习,其特点在于自我管理学习,学习不受时空限制。大学生能够对学习活动事先计划和安排;对实际学习活动过程进行监察、评价、反馈;对学习活动进行调节、修正和控制。通过在网络学习系统中应用个性化知识推送服务,可以最大限度提高大学生网上学习的兴趣和积极性,对普及和推广网络自主学习中心功能模式意义非常重大。     

Incorporating indigenous knowledge materials. Efforts at Elhafeed Library,Ahfad University,Sudan

Abstract

This article describes work being done at Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman, Sudan, to document and catalog indigenous knowledge (IK) materials. The recognition and appreciation of IK taps into the intellectual resources associated with it. Librarians, as major workers in the knowledge society, have to recognize their roles in the incorporation of IK into the “scientific knowledge system” with which they are familiar.

Acquiring Subject Knowledge to Provide Quality Reference Service

Abstract

A reference librarian frequently provides assistance in disciplines with which he is not well acquainted as to terminology or fundamental principles. Whether an advanced subject degree has been obtained or not, reference librarians have an obligation to themselves and the community they serve to broaden and expand their subject knowledge continually. This article outlines the justifications for gaining subject knowledge and the kinds of subject knowledge that reference librarians should possess, as well as offering practical suggestions for its acquisition.     

Training engaged student employees: A small college library experience

Student employees are often the first people patrons contact when they enter an academic library, and thus their knowledge level and service skills are crucial to academic library success. This article presents a case study of the job-related knowledge and customer service skills of undergraduate student employees in a small liberal arts college after the implementation of a training program more focused on patron service. Both successes and failures are discussed.

Learning to Lead: Challenges and Resources for The New Public Library Director

Library directors are part of the infrastructure of information management, but how well do they manage their institutional knowledge for succession planning? Our study looked at strategies to ease managerial transitions between libraries, focusing on knowledge management, communities of practice, and mentorship. Our survey found that succession planning was dictated by local practice and size of library. The results of this paper inform knowledge of succession planning and reveal existing gaps between informal transfer of knowledge and structured knowledge management (KM), as well as librarians' resourcefulness. Library directors use KM strategies, mentoring, and involvement with communities of practice to foster innovation.

科技期刊编辑应培养对错误数据的敏感性

结合实例分析,对科技期刊论文中错误数据的类型进行了归纳,并就编辑如何提高对数据的敏感性提出了建议。认为编辑不仅要有认真负责的态度、相关专业知识的学习和积累、掌握必要的统计学知识,还要对数据进行细致的复核,才能减少甚至消除科技论文中的数据错误。     

Material-Mind-Method: On the Teaching of Reference beyond the Lecture: In-Class Hands-On Contact with Reference Sources

ABSTRACT

Reference librarians need to know how to use a vast array of reference sources. How do they acquire this knowledge? How can students arrive at their entry level positions with an arsenal of known sources and strategies for advancing this knowledge? Various strategies can be employed to provide students with options on how to launch their understanding for how and when to use specific sources. This column provides examples of how to incorporate active learning activities devoted to providing students in a group setting with options on how to begin and share their learning about reference sources.     

高校学生个人知识管理能力调查分析

现代信息社会中,知识的组织和管理策略将直接关系到个人的工作和学习效率。实施个人知识的管理能够有效提升个人的能力和竞争力,对个人发展有重大意义。个人知识管理能力是个人知识管理的基础与保障,所以个人知识管理的能力也逐渐成为高校学生必备的能力。通过调查问卷的方式,了解高校学生的个人知识管理能力现状。研究表明,高校学生应加强对个人知识管理的重视程度,提高整理个人知识的频率,对即时灵感应予以关注和记录,同时,还应注重对个人知识管理能力的培养。
