This paper examines the effect of a computer-assisted career guidance program in South Korean secondary schools. The program used for this study was developed by one of the paper’s co-authors, Young-Hye Kim, based on Harrington & O’Shea’s Career Decision-Making system. MVS (My Vocational Situation) is used for pre-post test. The t-test results indicate that there are some meaningful differences between control and experimental groups on the 9th and the 11th graders in South Korea. There appeared to be gender and age influences on the degree of the effect.  相似文献

A variety of client characteristics, drawn primarily from John Holland's theory and constructs, were used to examine client reactions to using a computer-assisted career guidance system. The subjects were 206 individuals who sought assistance at a university-based career center. This study examined the separate and combined effects of a career planning course and a computer-assisted career guidance system (SIGI PLUS) on undecided university students. Seventy first and second year university students were randomly assigned to one of four treatment groups (career planning course only; career planning course and SIGI PLUS; SIGI PLUS only; wait-listed control group). Pre and posttest measures were administered and an analysis of covariance was conducted to determine differences among groups for each measure. Significant overall differences were found for each measure. Follow-up procedures revealed significant differences between specific career treatment groups and the control group. Conclusion The modem cash economy has transformed the Africans' traditional meaning structures and work has become a means for the satisfaction of major life tasks—survival, identity, community and meaning (Dovey & Mathabe, 1987) thus creating an urgent need for education for work in schools. School guidance programmes should adopt holistic developmental approach to address career counselling needs adequately.We recommended that a model which can be used in South Africa must address the person-prospective employer fit. It must essentially capture the career needs of individuals and different employers. Such a model must be sensitive to cultural variations across different prospective employees, i.e., it should allow a wide enough definition of careers such that a broad spectrum of experience and interests can be acknowledged.Finally, we recommended that career counselling programmes include a component to facilitate self-liberation and survival of apartheid. Such a self-liberation must include the individual's personal strategies to create meaning in their life.  相似文献

This case study presents the new career guidance helpline managed by the South African Qualifications Authority in South Africa, a middle-income country. The National Qualifications Framework and Career Advice Helpline represent a national equity-driven initiative using technology to expand access. The model has drawn on contemporary international research and models of innovative systems, while modifying the design for local relevance. 就业指导是做好就业工作的关键环节,而辅导员正是此环节的一线工作者。从当前辅导员队伍基本状况、辅导员对就业指导工作的认识,就业指导工作开展状况、辅导员就业指导能力培养、辅导员就业指导考核激励措施几方面对贵州省11所高校开展了调查。结果显示,各高校均已开始重视辅导员在就业指导工作中的重要作用,但辅导员就业指导工作机制的建设还不完善。学校应加强重视,建立招录、用人、培养、考核激励一体化的辅导员就业指导机制。  相似文献

This study responded to a national call to improve the outcomes in mathematics in the Grade 12 matriculation examination in South Africa by reporting learners’ perceptions of the introduction of computer-assisted learning in their mathematics classrooms. Three Grade 12 mathematics classes in a peri-urban school in South Africa were visited over a period of 4 months to observe the inclusion of a computer centre as part of the teaching of mathematics. Learner perceptions were obtained from (1) individual and group interviews and (2) an actual and preferred version of a learning environment instrument called the Computer-Assisted Learning Environment Questionnaire, which was developed for the South African context. Learners indicated that they considered application of computers as a positive step as it (1) increased their involvement in the mathematics classroom, (2) gave them more exercises in problem solving in mathematics, and (3) provided them with the opportunity to assess their own learning. However, a strong recommendation from this response is for more computers to be made available in order to allow learners to work individually and thereby be able to spend more time using the computers.  相似文献
