习近平总书记在2015年中央统战工作会议提出:"巩固和发展最广泛的爱国统一战线,是我们战胜困难、夺取胜利的重要法宝。"巩固发展最广泛的爱国统一战线"的目标要求将"新媒体中的代表性人士"列为重要统战对象。新媒体时代,统战工作要求高校统战工作者需因势利导,创新工作方法,适应新媒体环境,做好新媒体代表人士的培养工作,提高高校统战工作的效率。     

Videoconferencing: A New Opportunity to Facilitate Learning

The use of distance learning techniques as a means of delivering instruction in higher education classrooms has become increasingly popular with the growing diversity of today's college students. Videoconferencing has been used as a tool to facilitate the simultaneous communication of individuals across varying geographic regions through the use of telecommunication technologies that allow two-way video and audio transmissions. In this article, the authors share their journey into the world of learning about videoconferencing as a way to facilitate the teaching of courses in their newly designed hybrid program. They outline methods for selecting videoconferencing programs, provide specific steps for using a videoconferencing tool across various educational contexts, and discuss other creative ideas for using videoconferencing in PK–12 settings and beyond.     

基于视频会议的跨文化交流对交际意愿的影响

视频会议为外语学习者创造了在真实语境下进行实时跨文化交流的机会。依托外语交际意愿启发性模型,以中日学生跨文化视频会议为例,文章通过问卷调查、访谈及视频文本分析,讨论了视频会议中交际对象、交际背景、交际目的、交际话题及交际媒介等5个因素对外语学习者交际意愿的影响。结果证明:基于视频会议的跨文化交流活动为外语学习者提供了新的互动交流模式,能够多角度提升外语学习者的交际意愿。其中,视频会议作为交际媒介对交际意愿的提升作用最明显。     

Why build a network about introduction of sustainable development into scientific education?

More and more universities are thinking about the application of the concept of sustainable development to the education of engineers. In France, this movement generally results from isolated initiatives taken by committed individuals. In an attempt to make up lost ground, the Association pour les Pratiques du Developpement Durable has set up a working group, concerning the French engineering schools and universities which are preparing the way for the introduction of sustainable development into their teaching programmes, to pool their experience and optimize learning effects by identifying a number of principles and methods which should, in time, facilitate the spread of best practices among the members of the group and other educational establishments.

网络时代对高校德育工作的方法和途径提出了极大的挑战,如何在网络时代开展德育工作是高校德育工作者急需破解的一大难题。本文从校园网管理中技术和非技术的角度,提出了加强校园网管理对促进德育工作有效开展的途径和方法,具有现实意义。     

Preliminary analysis to build an integrative conceptual network for biological education at university level

Existing university education in the natural sciences comes up against many difficulties. Therefore, it is of importance to look for the reasons for such difficulties as felt by teachers and students, in order to develop a basis for a new approach to education. As an important step in this direction, a working group of teachers and didactics specialists at the University Pierre et Marie Curie has attempted to analyse the content of biological knowledge in order to develop an integrative conceptual network for biological education at university level. The results of this analysis are outlined here.     

Sustainable development and African local government: can electronic training help build capacities?

A recent study carried out by European and African organizations into the potential for electronic distance training (EDT) on sustainability in African local governments concluded that EDT was both ‘useful and feasible’. This article reflects on some of the theoretical and practical implications of that study. It focuses on the connection between learning and sustainability and how EDT programmes might be designed and promoted. The paper argues that, while resource issues and poor access to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) create considerable constraints and point to the need for policies to improve access, in general the most important factors for successful capacity building relate to the design of learning programmes that take account of the work contexts and skill and capability requirements of those targeted as learners. ‘Useful’ and ‘feasible’ depend on (i) how work‐based and work‐related learning processes are understood and (ii) the conditions to promote learning within African local government.

Bringing the World to the Classroom through Videoconferencing and Project-based Learning

The focus of this paper is a case study of a Texas-based school that implemented global projects to connect their students with many states and countries as a platform for integrating collaboration and communication skills, technology tools, and cultural diversity into an existing curriculum. The school introduced videoconferencing at every grade level K-8 in a school-wide initiative to bring the world to the classroom through the engagement of global learning projects with distant partners. A rubric is presented that provides a framework for improvement of interaction and engagement in videoconferencing experiences to develop best practices. For the purposes of this paper, the value of global projects in K-4 will be discussed.

Chimera state in a network of nonlocally coupled impact oscillators

Chimera state is a peculiar spatiotemporal pattern,wherein the coherence and incoherence coexist in the network of coupled identical oscillators.In this paper,we study the chimera states in a network of impact oscillators with nonlocal coupling.We investigate the effects of the coupling strength and the coupling range on the network behavior.The results reveal the emergence of the chimera state for significantly small values of coupling strength,and higher coupling strength values lead to unbounded motions in the oscillators.We also study the network in the case of excitation failure.We observe that the coupling helps in the maintenance of an oscillatory motion with a lower amplitude in the failed oscillator.

Cognitive load and self-regulation: Attempts to build a bridge

The editors of the Special Issue called for a more integrative approach to the study of cognitive load and self-regulation. The goal formulated for the Special Issue is ambitious. In my role as a constructive critic, I first summarized the findings in the 6 papers, identifying important questions and concerns that emerged while reading the papers. I also identified some general issues that need further clarification and elaboration: I argued that there is a strong need to reach consensus on the conceptualization and measurement of cognitive load and that new methodologies should be developed to capture cognitive load in real time and link it to strategy use.

Academically Supporting STEM Students From a Distance Through Videoconferencing: Lessons Learned

Student demand for distance learning, changing student demographics, and low retention compel institutions of higher education to develop alternative forms of academic support that can effectively serve the increasingly diverse needs of students. Videoconferencing provides institutions with the capacity to provide interactive real - time academic support that can successfully accommodate these needs. This article discusses the technical, pedagogical, staffing, training, and marketing factors that were important in the development and management of an online academic support program delivered synchronously through videoconferencing to students in high-risk Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses. The factors emerged from a mixed-method study that showed the efficacy of the online academic support program and identified influences that affected student adoption of academic support through videoconferencing.
