The active use of documental information in various fields of activity has resulted in the formation of four main concepts of a document: the legal, source-study, gnoseological, and management concepts. The history of the origin and development of the legal and source-study concepts is considered. The significant influence that is exerted by the positivistic philosophy on the formation of these concepts is noted.     

The basic concepts of qualimetry

The necessity and possibility of the development of the basic concepts of qualimetry, including assessment objects, quality, property, and quality management, are justified. The author offers specified definitions of these concepts. The quality and property concepts are considered and defined in applied and philosophical interpretations. It is proposed that one reject the integral quality concept that is used at present.     

The information and intellectual product concepts in a new infological and documentological paradigm

The need is considered to integrate the concept of information in the course of the development of a new info(rmo)logical and documentological paradigm through the concept of an intellectual product that is realized by the use of sign systems. The formation of this paradigm allows for coordination of the emergence of theoretical concepts with the basic schemes of metatheory or general theory rather than with the definitions of terms in the regulatory literature.

Creating learning outcomes from threshold concepts for information literacy instruction

Threshold concepts and learning outcomes represent two different ways of thinking about teaching and learning. Finding a way to translate between the two is necessary for librarians who may wish to use concepts from the Framework for Information Literacy to shape their instruction. The following article outlines a process for transforming concepts from the “Scholarship as Conversation” frame into learning outcomes that the author developed as part of a tutorial project. This process can easily be adapted to a variety of instructional situations.

Mapping curriculum learning outcomes to ACRL's Framework threshold concepts: A syllabus study

The aim of this study was to align information literacy instruction with curriculum learning outcomes as defined by teaching faculty in their syllabi. Using a syllabus study, a cross-disciplinary collection of 180 course syllabi were reviewed for learning outcomes, assignments with research components, and references to library resources and services. Key faculty-defined learning outcomes were mapped to the Association for College and Research Libraries Information Literacy Framework for Higher Education threshold concepts. Based on learning theory, introducing information literacy concepts is most effective when done at the time of need, guaranteeing that students utilize the skills immediately, and are more likely to retain the knowledge and skills learned. The author proposes a tiered approach to information literacy instruction, with novice skills introduced in lower-level courses and expert skills for upper-level and graduate courses to meet learning outcomes. Suggestions of how each of the threshold concepts can be applied to develop instructional activities to achieve learning outcomes are presented.
