医院图书馆读者需求调查

对复旦大学附属眼耳鼻喉科医院图书馆来馆读者使用图书馆服务的情况进行了调查,结果显示医院图书馆读者人群以研究生和医生为主,且主要利用图书馆网络及电子资源,建议医院图书馆加强馆藏建设,加大电子资源的推广、培训和指导。     

Employee no-shows: managing library absenteeism

Employee absenteeism is a problem faced by all library administrators. This paper describes the development, implementation, and results of a program to discourage absenteeism at the Moody Medical Library of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The important role of library administrators and supervisors in controlling absenteeism is emphasized.     

Creating the library itself: collection, staff, and space

It is stressed that many points must be settled between the librarian and the planners. Relationships between the library and the medical school and the university library should be made clear. The librarian must be intimately involved with the architect, with the selection of faculty, and with the planning of curriculum. Consideration is given to problems of collection building in the areas overlapping with other institutions and of journal collections. Cataloging is considered, and the need to develop accounting procedures.     

Use of library space and the library as place

Citizens' use of the public library in their local community is explored, focusing on social activities and how the libraries function as meeting places. The findings are important because of the need for meeting places across cultural, ethnic, generational, and social lines in a complex multicultural and digitized society. How library visitors use the library space and services, so that the overall societal goals of the library and the local community are obtained, is still rarely examined. An in-depth observational study was conducted in three library branches of Oslo, combined with interviews with patrons to establish the context and purpose of their library activities and to which life spheres they are linked. The research used concepts from social theory. The overall finding is that the public library use is very diverse. Patrons move easily between high and low intensive activities and float between life spheres and roles—student, family member, friend, neighbor, and citizen. The library is a complex arena. It is a public realm, in the sense that most of the visitors are strangers to each other; most of the individual uses belong to a private realm, and the library's community activities constitute it as a parochial realm. In the library, users are exposed to the plurality of the community and learn about otherness. People are not categorized by profession or as being unemployed, a patient or a client, but are all library users. This quality of the library contributes to social inclusion.

从心理契约视角看图书馆与读者的关系

读者关系是图书馆诸多关系的核心。建立以信任为基础的良好的读者关系,是实现图书馆利用率最大化的关键。本文尝试将心理契约理论应用到读者关系之中,阐述信任、感知质量和忠诚度对读者关系的意义,分析心理契约对读者利用图书馆行为的影响,并提出读者关系营销策略。     

The academic library: Structure,space, physical and virtual use

This mixed-methods study aims to characterize the appropriate structure of the academic library in the information age according to the perceptions of the faculty members who use the library and the academic librarians operating it. Two main issues were addressed: centralization versus decentralization, and the provision of physical versus virtual services. The study population included members of the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences in three academic institutions in Israel and academic librarians working in these institutions. Qualitative data was collected through interviews with 20 faculty members and 15 librarians, while quantitative data was collected through questionnaires filled by 191 faculty members and 50 librarians in the above-mentioned institutions. Analysis of these data reveal that faculty members generally prefer a concentration of materials—rather than decentralization—and they show a similar preference toward a faculty library model, a combined faculty/departmental library model, and a central library model. Similarly, the academic librarians prefer either faculty or combined faculty/department libraries, but their preference toward a central library model is lower than that of the faculty members. The decentralized, departmental library model was the least favored by both groups. In addition, our findings indicate that both the faculty members and the librarians appreciate the virtual services that the library provides as well as its physical presence, although fewer faculty members than librarians perceived the latter as an important role of the library. Taken together it appears that the preferred model for the academic library in the information age is of large, multidisciplinary libraries that contain materials from a variety of fields and provide comprehensive virtual services.
