Influences on Community College Students' Educational Plans

This study analyzed data from 285 students attending 5 community colleges to identify the institutional and college experience variables influencing end-of-first-year educational degree plans. Controlling for an extensive array of important confounding influences, the estimated average precollege degree plans of students at the community college one attended had significant, positive total and direct effects on an individual student's end-of-first-year overall educational degree plans and plans to obtain at least a bachelor's degree. In the prediction of end-of-first-year overall educational degree plans, there were significant conditional effects involving sex, race, and precollege degree plans.

同伴教学对大学英语学生认知、交际和情感发展的影响

不少研究证明同伴教学是提高学生英语应用能力的有效方法。通过对宁波大学外语学院同伴教学活动研究,结果表明:学生在参加同伴教学活动后,英语技能和交际能力有了提高,学习英语的自信心也增强了。因此,同伴教学活动不仅能有效提高学生的英语学习能力、交际能力,还有利于学生的情感发展。     

Students' Perceptions of Interpersonal Aspects of the Learning Environment

This study examined variables associated with differences in students' perceptions of interpersonal teacher behavior. The perceptions of 3023 students and 74 teachers in 168 classes in seven secondary schools were used in the analyses. Investigating variance at the student, class, teacher and school levels revealed that several variables are significantly related to students' perceptions: student and teacher gender, student and teacher ethnic background, student age and grade, class size, grade level, subject taught and teacher experience. There were interaction effects between some variables, such as student ethnicity and student gender, as well as student and teacher gender. While significant, the amount of variance explained by these was low (around 10%). The outcomes generally confirmed earlier research, although some new effects were found. Perhaps the main result of the study was its verification of the complex and interactive nature of students' perceptions of the learning environment and researchers' understanding of it.     

Career Development Among Ethnic and Age Groups of Community College Students

The purpose of this study was to examine differences in career development among four ethnic groups and two age groups of community college students in regard to their career goals, career preparation actions, and the number of job seeking strategies utilized. Data were obtained from the Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS: 90/94) of the National Center for Educational Statistics (NOES), U.S. Department of Education. Results suggest that there are statistically significant differences among the ethnic groups in six of the seven career goals; however, there are no significant differences between the traditional and non-traditional age groups in career goals. For career preparation action there are significant differences between the two age groups and also between Black/African American and White/European American students. There is no significant difference among the age or ethnic groups in the number of job seeking strategies utilized. These findings imply that student services providers, such as counselors, should be sensitive to community college students' backgrounds and experiences related to ethnicity and age. Individualized career-related workshops tailored to the career needs of specific student populations should be offered. The function of community colleges as providers of employment preparation can be enhanced by familiarizing students with accurate career information, considering students' ethnic backgrounds and their age.

家庭环境、同伴群体对初中生恋爱影响的实证研究——基于CEPS调查数据的分析

基于中国教育追踪调查(CEPS)数据,运用二元Logistic回归模型,主要探讨了家庭环境和同伴群体对初中生恋爱的影响。结果发现,夫妻关系、与母亲的关系、家庭经济条件对初中生恋爱有显著影响,父母经常吵架、与母亲不亲近、家庭经济条件越好的初中生恋爱的可能性更大,而父母离婚与否、独生子女与否、与爸爸关系对初中生恋爱没有显著影响。作为同伴群体的好朋友中恋爱的越多,初中生恋爱的可能性越大。与男生相比,女生恋爱更受家庭关系尤其是夫妻关系、母女关系的影响。从家庭和同伴入手,积极引导初中生树立正确的恋爱观是当前家庭、学校协同育人的关键。     

同伴互评对大学生英语写作焦虑影响的实证研究

通过一项同伴互评写作教学实验,采用《二语写作焦虑量表》,对179名被试进行了教学实验前后的对比研究,考察同伴互评对于大学生英语写作焦虑的影响。研究结果表明:同伴互评能够显著降低学生的总体写作焦虑、躯体焦虑与回避行为;非常显著地降低认知焦虑。
