Learning at home with information and communication technologies

Digitisation and the convergence of computing and telecommunications have led to a range of information and communication technologies (ICT) that have the potential to transform education. ICT are being used by teachers and learners in conventional universities and colleges as well as in tertiary institutions that serve the needs of distance learners, be they home‐based or in some other off‐campus location. They can enable distance learners to receive and interact with educational materials and resources and to engage with teachers and peers in ways that previously may have been impossible. However, the domestic contexts within which home‐based learners undertake their studies are complex and highly varied and these circumstances impact upon the educational process (Kirkwood 1995).

There is a need to examine not only the nature of the relationships between learners and the technologies, but also the social relationships within the domestic setting. It is important for course designers and developers to consider issues of access to ICT ‐ both quantitative and qualitative ‐ in the homes of their target student audience in order to develop a better understanding of their learners. Significant disparities in access exist, both within and between countries, and these can exacerbate existing educational advantages and inequities. Greater awareness of the diverse environments within which home‐based learning takes place should help inform the planning and design of courses and materials that are appropriate for such varied contexts.     

近年来国内外关于学习倦怠研究综述

近年来国内外学者开展了一系列学习倦怠的研究,这些研究主要集中于学习倦怠的性质、结构模式、学习倦怠的测量以及影响因素等方面。学习倦怠问题今后的研究趋势为：关于学习倦怠理论问题的研究将一如既往地受到关注;探索并编制出结构合理、信效度高、本土化色彩强的学习倦怠量表,为有效地诊断及干预学生的学习倦怠问题提供科学有效的工具是今后努力的方向;学生学习倦怠的干预研究将成为日后研究的重点和热点;同时,帮助学生减轻倦怠心理的干预策略的效果评估也将开辟成为新的研究领域。     

Learning and living pedagogies of the home: The mestiza consciousness of Chicana students

This article focuses on how Chicana college students draw from what they learn in their homes and how living a mestiza consciousness may be one way by which they have navigated their way around educational obstacles and into college. More specifically, Delgado Bernal draws on the work of Anzaldua (1987) to define the concept of a mestiza consciousness as the way a student balances, negotiates, and draws from her biculturalism, bilingualism, commitment to communities, and spiritualities in relationship to her education. Using this concept, Delgado Bernal offer a unique way to understand and analyze Chicana's educational experiences. Her analysis of life history and focus-group interviews indicates that the communication, practices, and learning that occur in the home and community - pedagogies of the home - often serve as a cultural knowledge base that helps students survive and succeed within an educational system that often excludes and silences them.

全国农村教育工作会议昨日闭幕。由国务院召开会议专门研究部署农村教育工作,这是新中国成立以来的第一次。本报今日全文发表《国务院关于进一步加强农村教育工作的决定》(以下简称《决定》)。学习宣传好《决定》,认真贯彻落实会议精神,对促进我国农村教育发展和“三农”问题解决,具有十分重要的意义。     

Managed moves: schools collaborating for collective gain

Government guidance in the United Kingdom encourages groups of schools to take collective responsibility for supporting and making provision for excluded pupils and those at risk of exclusion. Managed moves are one way that some schools and authorities are enacting such guidance. This article presents the results of an evaluation of one such scheme. The scheme, involving seven neighbouring secondary schools, was nearing its first year of completion. The article draws primarily on interview data with pupils, parents and school staff to describe a number of positive outcomes associated with the scheme and to explore how these were achieved. We found that while some of these could be attributed directly to the managed move, others arose from the more inclusive ethos and practices of particular schools. The concepts of tailored support, care and commitment emerged as strong themes that underpinned the various practical ways in which some schools in the cluster were able to re‐engage ‘at‐risk’ pupils. As managed moves become more widely practised it will be important to remember that it is how the move proceeds and develops rather than the move itself that will ultimately make the difference for troubled and troublesome pupils.
