Comprehensiveness and the Challenges of Harmonization of Study and Research Programs in the CSET within ODL Context: Chemists’ Perspective

Abstract

This article examines the comprehensiveness of the University of South Africa (UNISA) as an Open Distance Learning (ODL) institution and the challenges faced by experimental disciplines within ODL. Those challenges are brought about by the attempt to harmonize study and research programs in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) following the merger and harmonization of programs from the former distance learning UNISA and Technikon South Africa (TSA). The paper discusses the current realities with the aim to promote further debate on the place of ODL in science and technology programs in tertiary education such as UNISA in general and CSET in particular.     

Senior Design Project Course: A Case Study

The two‐quarter Senior Design Project course given in the Computer Science and Engineering Department of Auburn University gives undergraduate students a significant computer system development experience by working on a project from proposal to prototype. Heavy emphasis is placed on team‐ and project‐management principles, team presentations, the application of standard structured development methodologies, and the generation of formal deliverables after each project phase. Project ideas are canvassed from faculty, graduate students, local industry and community, and from the students themselves. We believe that the knowledge and experience acquired by students from working in a team on a substantial project gives them an insight and perspective that is unattainable through the standard lecture paradigm. The course has received enthusiastic endorsement from industry, accrediting boards, and participating students (albeit at the end of the course!).     

变截面连续箱梁景观桥上部结构设计

预应力混凝土变截面连续箱梁是城市景观桥梁建设中较多采用的结构形式。某跨径布置为19m+30m+19m的变截面连续箱梁,两幅布置,中间镂空。上部采用无悬臂单箱七室箱梁,下部采用薄壁式桥台、花瓶墩、钻孔灌注桩基础。桥墩和箱梁外立面施作清水混凝土浇筑的装饰板。装饰板内布置钢筋网,和主梁结构伸出的预埋钢筋相连接。结构验算表明,主梁结构的正截面抗弯承载力、斜截面抗剪承载力、抗裂验算和挠度验算均满足规范要求。变截面连续箱梁景观桥设计时,主体结构按照常规变截面连续梁设计,外立面施工装饰板,既能简化设计过程,又能达到良好的景观效果。     

基于“互联网+”的体验式生态农庄H-azo模式构建

目前,发达国家对城市农业的需求已经从单纯地提供健康食品转变为全面的农业体验,从而带来了市民娱乐、城市绿化等环境、经济和社会作用。作者利用文献综述、用户研究等方法,探究面向商业空间的都市农业,构建基于"互联网+"的游戏体验式生态农庄H-azo模式,对H-azo进行了全面的研究。结果表明:H-azo模型为我国城市农业发展提供了一种崭新的思路,为类似情况下的理论研究和设计实践提供了参考。     

以工程教育专业认证为导向的智能电网信息工程专业建设及人才培养模式

以工程教育专业认证为契机,对智能电网信息工程新开设专业的专业建设和人才培养模式进行探讨,从人才培养目标定位以及课程设置上兼顾学生的工程实践能力和智能电网专业特色内涵同时凸显工程教育认证"以学生为中心"和"成果导向"的核心要素。在实地考察并参照其他院校相关专业建设情况的基础上,梳理了我校设置的以工程教育专业认证为导向的智能电网信息工程专业课程体系结构和现阶段存在的问题,对完善该专业的教学模式和加强学科建设具有重要的参考意义。     

指导工科大学生毕业设计(论文)的几点思考

文章针对近年来本科毕业设计(论文)中普遍存在的论文质量下降问题进行分析,得出以下几点思考:对于工科大学生毕业设计,指导教师应把握好选题,针对不同类型毕业设计指导时各有侧重,且应加强论文撰写过程的指导,提高学生在毕业设计过程中的积极性;学校管理部门应配合指导教师加强督促和管理工作,突出本科毕业设计的重要性,强化本科毕业设计过程的“仪式感”,为培养优秀工科毕业生做好保障工作。     

水利专业毕业设计团队培养模式的实践

在对目前我国本科生毕业设计的现状进行分析的基础上提出毕业设计团队模式,并将团队模式在天津农学院水利工程学院进行连续五年的实践,在实践过程中总结了团队模式实施过程中的难点,并就团队模式运行推广的保障机制进行了探讨。实践结果表明:以团队模式完成的论文质量有显著提高,且学生的受益度提升明显。     

水文与水资源工程专业的发展现状与思考——以新疆农业大学为例

水文与水资源工程是工科类中水利工程下的一个二级学科,该学科具有潜力且发展迅速。新疆农业大学水利与土木工程学院自2010年开设水文与水资源工程本科专业以来,经过几年的建设取得了较大的发展。本文首先对新疆农业大学水文与水资源工程专业近几年的发展现状进行了归纳总结,并结合本科教学的实际情况和学科未来发展形势,对目前存在的一些问题提出了若干建议,包括充分发挥教师的引导作用、加强实践教学环节、培养学生创新实践能力和加大实验基地建设等。     

The role of agricultural engineering teaching within the agricultural environment relationship in Italy

Abstract

The effects caused by the new act regulating the agronomists profession on the relation between Agriculture Engineering, Rural Construction and Territory have been analyzed. Thus, we have to characterize trends and aims that teaching and research in Italian University should pursue in order to satisfy the new professional requirements of Agronomists.

Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering Education in Hungary

Engineering education has more than 200 years of tradition in Hungary. Chemical engineers are trained at the Technical University of Budapest (TUB) and at the University of Veszprém. The curriculum of the TUB chemical engineering education is given. Undergraduate environmental engineering education is offered at the University of Miskolc, at the Janus Pannonius University in Pécs and at the University of Veszprém. Curricula of the latter two are given. The TUB has several environmental specialization opportunities for engineering students, but at present no separate undergraduate environmental engineering education is offered. Such a curriculum is now under preparation and will be introduced in 1998. Several technical colleges also offer environmental engineering education, where the duration of the training is 3 years. Postgraduate education is a very suitable form to add environmental knowledge to the existing engineering knowledge of graduate engineers. The TUB and the universities in Miskolc and Veszprém are all very active in this field.

The Teaching Community: Recreating university teaching

Over the past 5 years, in two Australian universities, a model for the professional development of university teaching staff has been evolving. In the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FCIT) at Monash University and in First Year Engineering at Swinburne University, the Teaching Community approach has resulted in remarkable changes in university teachers' understanding of their role, their teaching skill and, most importantly, their enthusiasm and motivation for the teaching component of their work. At Swinburne the rapid uptake of the model has exceeded expectations, while at Monash FCIT the model continues to grow and evolve years after the initiating project expired. The Teaching Community model has proved effective in bringing educational development and in coping with imposed change. This paper traces the growth of the Teaching Community model, elaborates some of the successes experienced, makes some suggestions as to why it has been so powerful in bringing about change in an area well known for resistance and proposes conditions required for this on-site, low cost approach to improving tertiary teaching.

Practical Object‐Oriented Software Engineering Education

This article describes the effort undertaken at the University of Iowa to institute a software engineering curriculum at the graduate level. Specifically, the article presents the experiences over 2 years in developing a pilot 2‐semester course in object‐oriented software engineering. This pilot course had the goal of introducing practical and realistic object‐oriented software engineering to students, and developed several innovative techniques to achieve this goal on a very limited budget. Students were exposed to realistic software engineering phases, processes and methodologies in developing real‐world software. This pilot course has culminated in a Master of Science subtrack in Software Engineering offered cooperatively by the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iowa, which made its debut in the Fall of the 1992/1993 academic year.

近年来,班级在学生成长成才中所应发挥的重要作用逐步减弱,大学生难以建立稳定的社会关系和情感依托,集体责任意识缺乏。本课题以中国农业大学工学院本科生为研究对象,通过问卷调研、案例比对、面访座谈等多种手段全面分析各项因素对班级凝聚力建设的作用,从而提出增强班团组织凝聚力建设的方法,为班团组织建设提供科学合理的有效途径。
