Librarian Copyright Literacy: Self-Reported Copyright Knowledge Among Information Professionals in the United States

Librarians often act as default copyright experts at their institutions and thus must have an awareness of copyright law and practices. Nevertheless, there is little in the scholarly literature about how well informed librarians are about copyright law. Through a national survey of professional librarians, this study illustrates librarians’ self-perceived familiarity with copyright concepts, interests in training, and sources of support for copyright questions. The results will be of interest to library directors and library and information science (LIS) faculty and could inform curricular decisions in LIS schools and may also be applied to local professional development initiatives for librarians.     

Current Trends in the Planning and Development of Northern European Collections

Current planning and development of collections in the social sciences and humanities for German-speaking Europe, the Netherlands and Scandinavia reflect the changing needs of research, strict budgetary limits, the prevailing publishing market in those countries, and certain innovations in library automation. Librarians responsible for supporting an area study of Northern Europe may shape the trends to their advantage by careful policy planning, by informed financial choices, by the use of data bases and resource sharing, by privately-nurtured channels of acquisition and support and by a continuing self-education program that might include participation in the activities of the CES and WESS.

What Exactly Do You Do Here? Marketing-Related Jobs in Public and Academic Libraries

ABSTRACT

This study analyzes the presence of marketing-related job duties in public and academic library job listings and the experience required for these positions in order to better understand how libraries currently embrace marketing. A content analysis was performed on job listings from the American Library Association (ALA) JobLIST. The findings revealed 37% of job listings included marketing-related content, while only 11% of those listings also included stated experience or training in the marketing field. The findings will be of interest to library administrators looking to improve marketing strategies within their library without compromising the productivity of other library activities.     

Should I Stay or Should I Go? A Survey of Career Path Movement Within Academic,Public and Special Librarianship

Just as there are many types of library environments, the librarians working within those spaces represent a variety of experiences, job skills, and perspectives. Librarians develop these qualities through library curricula and on-the-job experience. While some librarians spend their careers in one type of library, others may travel between library environments and gain a wider range of experiences and skills. Decisions to transition between library types may be triggered by personal and professional motivators. Results of this survey confirm some librarians are actively and successfully transitioning between library environments as an alternative career path.

安徽省地市级公共图书馆的发展现状、存在问题与对策研究———基于第五次公共图书馆评估数据的考察简

文章以第五次公共图书馆评估数据为基础,运用计量分析的方法,对安徽地市级公共图书馆的发展状况进行了总结,对存在的问题进行了分析。结合安徽实际,提出发展地市级公共图书馆事业的对策。     

高校图书馆发展数字资源馆藏的调查研究

本研究调查了三种不同类型的群体（学生、教师、馆员）对图书馆发展数字资源馆藏的看法。结果显示:高校图书馆应积极发展数字资源馆藏;应加大力度整理网络可检索资源;资料类型是选择电子资源的重要参考因素。分析结果还表明:读者与图书馆员在“获取”与“收藏”、馆藏量大小以及付费利用数字资源等方面的看法有明显差异。     

人工智能伴随的学术泡沫及预防策略分析

随着深度学习、自然语言处理等领域的突破,人工智能(AI)在学术出版中的应用日益广泛,然而其使用的低门槛甚至无门槛将伴随学术泡沫现象的产生,主要表现为研究主题的过度集中、基于假设而非实证研究的学术论文数量激增、低质量学术论文泛滥、研究成果实际价值有限等。在科学研究领域,科研人员需理性看待AI技术,在科学研究与论文出版过程中合理、科学使用AI技术;科研机构也应加强学术诚信体系建设,鼓励多元化研究方向和内容原创。而在学术出版领域,出版单位应制定合理的AI技术使用规范,培养具备数智素养的编辑团队,并更加严格地审查借助AI完成的研究论文,遏止AI幻觉造成的错误信息传播,避免学术泡沫的发生,从而促进AI、学术研究和学术出版的高质量健康发展。     

A Core Collection of Trade Journals for Manufacturing

Trade journals are an important source of current information in academic libraries which support a business curriculum as well as for commercial, industrial and large public libraries. In recent years, studies establishing core lists of business periodicals have included trade journals, but have not dealt primarily with them. This study identifies trade journals for manufacturing industries, an economic activity defined and classified using SIC codes in the Standard Industrial Classification Manual. For this study, industries whose value of shipment was ten billion dollars or more annually were selected. Next, directories such as Business Publication Rates and Data which describe a journal's focus and coverage were consulted. From this large pool, the trade journal which most closely matched the industry defined by the SIC code was selected, provided it was indexed. If two or more trade journals were considered appropriate for the same industry, the one with the highest circulation was used. A core collection of trade journals was established which, when combined with a careful assessment of the needs of users, should be of value to those charged with collection development.
