本文结合天津音乐学院图书馆的专业藏书建设的实际,就地方音乐院校图书馆专业藏书特色的形成问题提出了个人的一些见解。     

Essential Skills for Corporate and Special Librarians

Abstract

Library science programs must be responsive to the wide variety of workplace needs to ensure that graduating students are prepared with appropriate knowledge and skills regardless of where their career path brings them, and to do so they must understand the various needs and expectations of the field. Through a nationwide study of over 2,000 current professionals and LIS faculty, this study examines the knowledge, skills, and abilities identified as core for special and corporate librarians. The results help establish a baseline of skills for corporate and special librarians, which will be of interest to current and emerging professionals interested in a career in these settings and could have implications for LIS education.

Classification and Indexing in Yeshiva Libraries: Analysis of the Systems,Their Sources and Development

This article investigates the forms of classification and indexing found in yeshiva libraries in the State of Israel. The yeshiva (plural: yeshivot) is a Jewish educational institution that focuses on the study of traditional religious texts, primarily the Talmud and the Bible. The research goal was to analyze classification and indexing systems in these libraries, examine how they evolve, and to compare the yeshiva classification systems used in practice to Jewish studies classification in other classification systems. This study can help us understand how classification systems develop and what the cognitive, philosophical, and administrative processes that lie behind them are.     

Factors Predicting the Importance of Libraries and Research Activities for Undergraduates

While prior research has established linkages between undergraduate students' library use, research participation, and success, researchers know little about the importance undergraduates place upon libraries and research activities. Utilizing data from the Student Experience in the Research University (SERU) survey, the purpose of this paper was to examine factors associated with the importance of libraries and research among undergraduates at nine large, public research universities. The results of this study suggest a variety of factors are positively associated with the importance of libraries and research for students, including participation in research activities, interest in medical or research careers, academic engagement, faculty interactions, library satisfaction, and development of library skills, among others.     

Digital Humanities and Libraries: A Conceptual Model

ABSTRACT

Though there has been much discussion of the connection between libraries and digital humanities (on both sides), a general model of the two has not been forthcoming. Such a model would provide librarians with an overview of the diverse work of digital humanities (some of which they may already perform) and help identify pockets of activity through which each side might engage the other. This article surveys the current locations of digital humanities work, presents a cultural informatics model of libraries and the digital humanities, and situates digital humanities work within the user-centered paradigm of library and information science.

基于1999—2011年《中国期刊全文数据库》(CNKI)来源文献的统计数据,对高职院校图书馆和本科院校图书馆为单位的论文分别进行统计,采用关键词分析的方法,从图书馆服务、图书馆管理、图书馆资源建设研究等方面对两类图书馆的学术研究情况对比分析,探寻高职图书馆学术研究的特色之处及存在的不足,以期为高职图书馆今后的学术研究提供一些帮助。

Anthropology libraries are highly specialized scholarly repositories that provide breadth, depth, and coherence to an expansive, fragmentary literature. This article profiles three types of anthropology library—(1) governmental, (2) private or specialized, and (3) departmental or museum—and examines the needs and information seeking behavior of anthropology library users, most of whom are graduate students and credentialed researchers. Also described are particular versus general reference sources for anthropology, ethical issues, and the service requirements of this user population. The main conclusion of this article is that anthropologists rely heavily on printed books due to the comparative, foreign, rare, and sometimes antiquated nature of the resources they seek. For this reason, brick-and-mortar anthropology libraries continue to play a special role in ensuring the vitality of the profession.     

Rural Libraries Services for Older Adults: A Nationwide Survey

The author examined the survey results from 721 rural libraries throughout the United States and Canada to learn more about how they are serving older adults (defined here as anyone 65 years and older). The following areas of library service in particular were studied: funding sources, collections, strategic planning, staffing, technology use, partnerships, outreach efforts, and building design and accessibility. Results of this study were compared to those found in recent studies of services provided to older adults in suburban and capital city public libraries.

Over the past decade, the libraries and academic computing units at Columbia have been brought together to form a new information services organization. This article will trace the history and current state of IT and library relationships at Columbia University. The expanding collaboration among academic computing services, their deeper partnership and integration with library programs, the working relationship with campus administrative computing, and participation in national and international projects will be described and evaluated.

数字学术服务是高校图书馆一项创新性服务。为了解英国研究型图书馆数字学术服务现状,为我国高校图书馆数字学术服务提供国际经验,文章解读英国研究型图书馆协会(RLUK)2019年调查报告《数字学术和研究型图书馆的角色》。该报告内容涉及英国研究型图书馆数字学术服务性质与范围、基础设施、人员保障、资金来源、服务评估、馆藏数字转型、成员馆潜在合作领域等方面,具有内容详实全面、方便用户使用、基于国际对比视角、实践指导意义显著等特点。我国高校图书馆开展数字学术服务,可从建立专门的数字学术服务团队与部门、率先开展人文学科的数字学术服务、重视数字学术服务资金筹集、建立数字馆藏资源共享机制等方面着手。
