The paper focuses on the convergence of Finnish research and education in archival science with information science in general
and in records management with information management in particular. Two issues influencing this development are: the convergence
of professionals previously worked in the archival and library sectors and in information management and services; and the
wide-spread, extensive growth in the use of digital technology to manage internal and external organizational information.
At the level of society the opportunities provided by digital technology to manage heritage information in memory organizations
like archives, libraries and museums, are tremendous and the role of documentary heritage at the global, European and national
levels is well recognized. These developments are changing the information and operating environments of memory organizations
and public and private enterprises. These changes, in turn, are generating new requirements in archival science and records
management education and research. This paper focuses on the implications of these changes for the planning, implementation
and further development of an information studies curriculum. This curriculum development is considered crucial in order to
respond to the new demands, and is also implicitly linked to the emerging Finnish information society.

In this study the relationship between domain-specific skills and peer assessment skills as a function of task complexity is investigated. We hypothesised that peer assessment skills were superposed on domain-specific skills and will therefore suffer more when higher cognitive load is induced by increased task complexity. In a mixed factorial design with the between-subjects factor task complexity (simple, n?=?51; complex, n?=?59) and within-subjects factor task type (domain-specific, peer assessment), secondary school students studied four integrated study tasks, requiring them to learn a domain-specific skill (i.e. identifying the six steps of scientific research) and to learn how to assess a fictitious peer performing the same skill. Additionally, the students performed two domain-specific test tasks and two peer assessment test tasks. The interaction effect found on test performance supports our hypothesis. Implications for the teaching and learning of peer assessment skills are discussed. 相似文献

Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) algorithms have been seen as a promising access method for digital photograph collections. Unfortunately, we have very little evidence of the usefulness of these algorithms in real user needs and contexts. In this paper, we introduce a test collection for the evaluation of CBIR algorithms. In the test collection, the performance testing is based on photograph similarity perceived by end-users in the context of realistic illustration tasks and environment. The building process and the characteristics of the resulting test collection are outlined, including a typology of similarity criteria expressed by the subjects judging the similarity of photographs. A small-scale study on the consistency of similarity assessments is presented. A case evaluation of two CBIR algorithms is reported. The results show clear correlation between the subjects' similarity assessments and the functioning of feature parameters of the tested algorithms. 相似文献

The Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, Australia houses the world's most significant and comprehensive collection of Speedo swimwear and accessories. The museum has identified a problem with the long-term storage of certain Spandex/Lycra® items where the elastane fibre has degraded leading to oil formation. Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) determined that most of these garments were manufactured using nylon-elastane fibres, and the elastane component comprises polyetherurethane or polyesterurethane polymers. Certain polyesterurethanes are known to be vulnerable to hydrolysis, and this was confirmed for a subset of the collection using two chemical testing protocols, and a thermal testing protocol that reproduced the oil formation. A polyetherurethane garment in the collection was unchanged by these tests. The oil from the thermal testing was confirmed as a breakdown product of the polyester component of the elastane fibre, using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry. The study demonstrates the value of ATR-FTIR for minimally invasive identification of elastane fabrics that may require specialized storage in a humidity-controlled environment. 相似文献

AbstractThe aim of this study was to examine the emotions higher education teachers associate with assessment and the factors in their teaching environment that triggered these emotions. As a starting point, Frenzel’s model of teacher emotions and Pekrun’s control-value theory of achievement emotions were used. The sample consisted of 16 experienced and pedagogically advanced teachers who participated in semi-structured interviews. After abductive content analyses, both positive and negative emotions were detected corresponding to Frenzel’s and Pekrun’s models. The main sources of emotions were validity of assessment, assessment methods, pedagogical development and assessment culture. This preliminary study indicates that assessment evokes both positive and negative emotions, and that validity of assessment is a prominent issue in evoking these emotions. Pedagogical training should deal with emotions and their regulation in assessment to help teachers in higher education to cope with negative emotions. 相似文献

This article concentrates on visual sources relating to secondary education, and asks how a collection of photographs can be understood and interpreted as part of the institutional and collective memory of one Finnish girls’ school. The photographs were published in the anniversary books of the school. They construct an entirety, where public memories are interwoven with individual and private reminiscences. The article examines how the traditions of jubilee books and the institutional setting of the school establish the boundaries for the visual narratives of the collection and how the self-image and identity of the school and its gendered nature are visualised in the corpus. The long period (1882–2007) opens up possibilities for studying how the changes in the Finnish education system and the alteration of the girls’ school to a co-educational school are presented in the photographs, and how these photographs create the imagery of gender, class, equality and co-education. 相似文献

The purpose of this study is to examine teachers' reflections of their early childhood special education work in Finnish day care. Work contents and work roles have faced many challenges in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), and therefore general reflection and research need to be developed. Teachers (n?=?218) evaluated, via an electronic survey, the work fields of ECSE. Reflectivity is assessed by means of open-ended questions in the different fields of ECSE. All the answers were divided into the following categories: the technical, practical, and critical level of reflection. The researchers compared their evaluations and found the baseline to be very similar. The data revealed that the reflectivity was mainly at the technical level. It was almost impossible to reach the critical reflection level. 相似文献

Information seeking is part of information science, and its aim is to study how people seek and use information in their work,
for what purpose the information is sought, how this information influences the effectiveness of the work and what barriers
people perceive in their search for, and use of, necessary information. This study examines information seeking in pre-trial
police investigation. There has been no previous attempt to examine information seeking in pre-trial police investigation,
of the earlier studies in information seeking only those concerning lawyers represent a somewhat similar field. In both fields
the work is subject to confidentiality, which is strictly regulated by law. This study was carried out partly in cooperation
with another study, which examines documentation in pre-trial investigation. During the research project it became obvious
that information seeking with its different components is something also to be taken into account in documentation and records
management. 相似文献
