Treatment Fidelity Challenges in a Five-State Consultation Study

Consultation is a promising approach to creating change in early childhood programs, from innovations in instructional strategies to the enhancement of global program quality. Studies of consultation effectiveness have been hampered by limited reports of implementation fidelity related to consultation procedures. This article describes the challenges of supporting and measuring implementation fidelity in a 5-state study in which community consultants followed a collaborative consultation model to enhance global quality in childcare programs. The authors consider the limitations of using a randomized experimental design to study the effectiveness of consultation and share lessons learned in their efforts to enhance treatment fidelity without compromising the basic tenets of the model or the rigorous design.     

Claiming expertise from betwixt and between: Digital humanities librarians,emotional labor,and genre theory

ABSTRACT

Librarians' liminal (intermediate) position within academia situates us to make unique contributions to digital humanities (DH). In this article, we use genre theory, feminist theory, and theories of emotional labor to explore the importance of discourse mediation and affective labor to DH and the interplay between these areas and academic structural inequality. By claiming our expertise and making explicit work that is often not visible, we can advocate for new and varied roles for librarians in digital humanities. Our analysis is informed by both theory and practice, and it takes a dialogic approach that depends upon the interactions between the two.     

Courting Apocalypse: Creating a Zombie-Themed Evidence-Based Medicine Game

In 2015, two librarians at the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa turned their dreams into a reality and secured funding to build a zombie-themed evidence-based medicine game. The game features a “choose your own adventure” style that takes students through a scenario where a disease outbreak is taking place and a resident is asked to use evidence-based medicine skills to select a screening and diagnostic tool to use on potentially infected patients. Feedback on the game has been positive, and future plans include building additional modules on therapy, harm, and prognosis.     

汉、回、蒙古族MBL基因Exon Ⅰ 54位密码子点突变频率及血浆含量相关性研究

目的:初步调查我国北方地区汉、回、蒙古族健康人群MBL基因ExonⅠ54位密码子点突变的情况,检测其血浆MBL含量,探讨二者的相关性。方法:用PCR-RFLP检测MBL基因点突变频率;用MBLOli-gomerELISA试剂盒测定血浆MBL含量。结果:健康汉族人该基因突变频率0.23,血浆MBL含量均值1.99±1.50mg/L,二者负相关(r=-0.62);回族人突变频率0.15,MBL含量均值3.40±2.55mg/L,二者负相关(r=-0.67);蒙古族人基因突变频率0.18,含量均值2.52±1.95mg/L,二者负相关(r=-0.64)。结论:健康汉、回、蒙古族人MBL基因54位密码子点突变频率与其血浆含量均呈负相关。     

地塞米松诱导小鼠腭裂动物模型的建立

目的:探讨地塞米松诱导小鼠腭裂动物模型的建立方法。方法:采用一次性腹腔注射地塞米松的方法,建立腭裂模型鼠。取孕12.5d、13.5d、14.5d、15.5d、16.5d胚胎头部,石蜡包埋,6μm切片,HE染色,观察腭发育过程腭突的变化。结果:妊娠第11.5d一次性给予地塞米松(Dex)1mL(用量为50mg/Kg)可诱发小鼠产生腭裂。模型组腭突体积瘦小,不能在中线区接触融合,以致不能与腭突上方的鼻中隔接触融合,胎鼠出现腭裂。结论:妊娠第11.5d一次性给予小鼠足量地塞米松,可成功建立腭裂动物模型。为研究腭裂形成原因及分子机制提供了一个较好的模型。

Equity in Education for/with Refugees and Migrants—Toward a Solidarity Promoting Interculturalism

This special issue brings to the forefront the complex educational challenges faced by migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. It focuses on different ways of understanding equity in relation to education for/with refugees and migrants. The core articles gathered for the special issue originate from the Comparative Education Society in Europe (CESE) conference on the theme of “Equity in and Through Education” held in Glasgow, UK, between May 31 and June 3, 2016. Thus, the special issue addresses the question of equity in diverse local, national, and transnational contexts and from an interdisciplinary approach.     

Development of shared vision: Lessons from a science education community collaborative

This is a qualitative case study of a collaboration among multiple stakeholders in science education who came together in order to create environmental field trips and the surrounding classroom curriculum. The collaboration involves 4 major facets of science education: formal education at the elementary and university levels, informal education, and educational research. The data were collected by means of observation, semi‐structured interviews, and written document review. This study examines how shared vision developed within the collaboration, the roles the participants played in its evolution, and how this process benefited both the collaboration and each individual collaborator. Several factors significantly affected the progress towards a shared vision and a successful collaboration including time, communication, understanding others' perspectives, dedication and ownership, as well as the collaborative environment. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
