Acknowledging the necessity to establish the fairness and consequential validity of teacher candidate performance assessments
when they are used to make high-stakes decisions impacting entry into the profession, we investigated whether there were any
adverse results from the use of the Renaissance Teacher Work Sample (TWS) assessment at two universities as a consequence
of the age, gender, or race/ethnicity of teacher candidates. We also investigated education program and program entrance requirements,
such as Praxis I scores, and measures of grade point average, as general predictors of TWS success. The findings indicated
no disparate impact or adverse consequences based on the gender, age, or race/ethnicity of the teacher candidates. Selected
variables did predict a moderate amount of the variance of the TWS total scores of both preinterns and student-teaching interns.
The process used to determine the value implications of the results was also discussed. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: A simple laboratory experiment, based on the Maillard reaction, served as a project in Introductory Statistics for undergraduates in Food Science and Technology. By using the principles of randomization and replication and reflecting on the sources of variation in the experimental data, students reinforced the statistical concepts and techniques introduced to them in lectures before the experiment. The experiment was run simultaneously by several student groups, using the same materials. Comparing the results of their analyses of variance, students became aware of the difference between P values and significance levels in making statistical decisions. In the experiment, the complete randomized design was applied; however, it is easy to adjust the experiment to teach students simple regression and randomized block designs. 相似文献

During recent years, many schools have started to implement information and communication technologies (ICTs)-based learning devices (such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and active boards) in the classroom settings in order to increase learning outcomes. The aim of this study is to find which activities and outcomes are evident in the usages of computing devices and how those devices aid elementary-level students in their learning activities. The study includes five overt participant observations at some schools in a Swedish municipality including unstructured interviews and explains the findings through activity theory and the Alberta Education Framework for Student Learning . The major activities found were dealing with the (1) educational application assignments, (2) storytelling, (3) report writing and (4) practical interaction assignments. We concluded that ICTs aid students in becoming more concentrated, focus driven, engaged and amused, thus learning becomes more interesting. 相似文献

Employing Holland's personality theory ofoccupational decision making, this study explores howpersonality-career fit influences initial medical careeraspirations among college freshmen, and the extent to which such fit is associated with themaintenance or abandonment of those aspirations.Personality types thought to be common among physicians(Holland's investigative, social, or artistic types) are predictive of aspiring to a medicalcareer-findings that validate the importance offit between an individual's personalityand career choice generally, and the choice of medicinespecifically. Moreover, the personality characteristics ofstudents are related to the careers they later choose asalternatives to medicine. Overall, these findingsprovide additional support for Holland's occupational decision-making theory of personality-careerfit, and illustrate how personality characteristics aresystematically associated with changes in career choiceduring college. 相似文献

The research reported in this paper examined what role working in a union or nonunion college has in influencing faculty perceptions of control over their work. Using data from the 1993, 1999, and 2004 National Study of Postsecondary Faculty, this study explored the relative importance of variables in influencing perceived control among full-time teaching faculty in unionized and nonunionized community colleges. This study compares the social status of highly gifted (N=42) and moderately gifted (N=86) students across academic (classroom) and social (dormitory) settings. Giftedness was not significantly related to social status in either setting. Two social statuses, popular and rejected, were significantly stable across settings. Furthermore these statuses were related to peer nominations for getting along, fighting, and being shy, to social and academic measures of self‐concept, and to age relative to the peer group. These findings are examined in light of other research on gifted‐ness and social status. 相似文献
