Cells and cell-free solutions of the culture filtrate of the bacterial symbiont, Xenorhabdus nematophila taken from the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema carpocapsae in aqueous broth suspensions were lethal to larvae of the diamondback moth Plutella xylostella. Their application on leaves of Chinese cabbage indicated that the cells can penetrate into the insects in the absence of the nematode vector. Cell-free solutions containing metabolites were also proved as effective as bacterial cells suspension. The application of aqueous suspensions of cells of X. nematophila or solutions containing its toxic metabolites to the leaves represents a possible new strategy for controlling insect pests on foliage. 相似文献

This article examines how climate change is represented by the mainstream press in a developing country context characterized by long-term avoidance of the issue. Study 1 establishes the issue coverage trends in two mainstream Turkish newspapers (1997–2013). Study 2 focuses on the news sections of these papers that were used for reporting about the issue in the first attention cycle (1997–2009) to summarize the knowledge and meaning dimensions presented to the Turkish public sphere. The findings show that the issue became part of the press agenda only after the mid-2000s, with a peak in 2007 (Study 1), and that climate change is represented as anthropogenic and alarming/uncontroversial, by drawing on dramatic consequences. These are constructed simultaneously as already “out there” in the country, and as to be dealt with globally, that is, from outside (Study 2). Game development companies are founded based on a passion and love for gaming. Founders have spent a lifetime playing games, which has motivated education in a given development area like design or programming. The disruptive technology experienced in the gaming industry requires constant updating of these game development skills, which consumes the focus of founders, leaving skill gaps in running the business. Remaining sustainable in gaming leadership requires assessment of skills to identify a targeted plan for continuing development. Leadership development is a highly researched area in academia as well as a multi-billion-dollar industry annually. One of the most effective assessments used for leadership development is multi-rater assessments. Research and successful case studies indicate that when multi-rater-based leadership development is implemented properly with aligned competencies, it leads to individual behavioral change and collectively organizational change. Multi-rater assessments in the gaming industry appear to be a new concept due to the emerging nature of this industry. Our research first focuses on identification of leadership competencies in the gaming industry. We shift focus to multi-rater evaluation and exemplify key feedback that fosters permanent behavioral changes in gaming leaders, as well as process steps to support organizational change. 相似文献

This study is about Kenyan pupils' ideas of parks and wildlife. Despite their importance in Kenya, parks and wildlife do not seem to have contributed much in terms of teaching and learning of ecology at school. The findings show a lack of scientific explanation and understanding of issues of wildlife and parks. However, some pupils understand parks and wildlife in terms of their social implications such as socioeconomic benefits, tourism and the resolution of the human-wildlife conflict. The pupils note the potential of parks and wildlife to contribute to the alleviation of poverty and the creation of a more equitable society. The literature has identified barriers with library staff as one of the important barriers affecting academic activities of students and also recognized the relationship of various academic and demographic characteristics of students with it. The emotions management skills of students may be one of the possible correlates of the barriers with library staff. This study was designed to investigate the levels of barriers with library staff and emotions management skills as well as their possible correlation using two standardized scales. The data were collected from the final year undergraduate agriculture students. The results confirmed the existence of barriers with library staff among the participants of both genders experiencing the same level of anxiety. The participants scored 3.75 (average) on the emotions management scale. The results also revealed significantly negative correlation between emotions management skills and barriers with library staff among these students. Carboxylate-modified gold nanoparticles (GNPs) were synthesized in a simple one-step process based on the reduction of tetrachloroauric acid by aspartic acid in water. GNPs were identified by UV–Vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy. Conjugation of protein molecules with functionalized nanoparticles was performed through electrostatic interaction. The GNP–protein conjugates were characterized by gel electrophoresis. The interaction between functionalized GNPs and protein molecules lead to conformational transition of protein structure after conjugation of protein with GNPs. The present study explored teachers' opinions about the inclusion of students with disabilities and special needs in regular primary schools in a Palestinian context, and factors that influenced such opinions. The sample consisted of 90 teachers at six schools. Eighty-seven (97%) of them had students with disabilities or special needs in their classes. Fifty-four (60%) of the teachers were of the opinion that students with disabilities and special needs should have an opportunity to attend public schools. Opinion-related factors were identified and compared to results of previous studies. Eighty-one (90%) of the teachers expressed a need for changes in the public schools in order to meet the needs of students with disabilities and special needs. Their focus of interest for building their own competence was on knowledge and skills that could empower them as teachers, not on knowledge about the students' disabling impairments. 相似文献
